I rise in the morning to a long steamy shower.
I have brushed and shaved and dressed for an hour.
Now I scurry to work, the ladder to climb.
Don't bother me now, Lord, I don't have the time.
My afternoon's full, appointments to keep.
Staying late in the night the fruits to reap.
Getting home late with every last dime.
Don't bother me now, Lord, I don't have the time.
Time to take that vacation that's long overdue.
So I gather the wife and the rest of the crew.
Two weeks in paradise--peaceful, sublime.
Don't bother me now, Lord, I don't have the time.
Day after day, and year after year,
I've gone through this ritualistic career.
Now I am wondering long past my prime:
Whatever happened to all of the time?
Seventy years the Lord gives to a man;
Eighty or so if strengthened by His hand.
I've lived out this life as though it were mine.
Lord, forgive me for not redeeming the time.
