Alcohol is recommended under certain circumstances and in particular situations; although sobriety
is definitely the ideal, conditions exist under which alcohol was recommended, and celebrations were
one such occasion. If drinking was a sin, Jesus would not have created over a hundred gallons of wine
at the wedding in Cana. Jesus also commented to Pilate that the one who turned him over had a greater
sin, so yes, there are levels to the severity of sin, though there is only one that is unforgivable.

Alcohol has a few purposes.
1. Solvent for herbal extracts
2. Chemical for many useful compounds
3. Fuel
4. Solvent/ cleaner for tough oil based or water based grime like sticky tars or sap
5. Antiseptic
6. Vasodilator for emergency

There are a handful of legitimate nonsinful uses off the top of my head.

Drunkenness is a sin according to the Bible.

Yes, there are varying degrees and types of sins.

It affects us differently than other sin but all sin is sin how it can affect the person is different

We have to repent of sin all together but fornication and all sexual sin homosexuality , adultery ect this is sinning against this

when we commit sexual sin it’s like we are uniting Gods holy temple with a diseased prostitute it is an offense to defile Gods temple a unique offense that is actually able to become part of us when we are called to keep the temple clean for his ever living presence in us

but a lie , adultery , idolatry , coveting is all sin and we need to as we recognize it repent of it

as Christian’s God is always with us not just in the pew on so day but at midnight on Friday night Jesus is right there witnessing , when no one else is around Jesus is right there with us , when we gnhink no one knows what we did on secret jesus is fully aware of every word and deed

when we accept and believe it , it is a powerful thing to bring us out of sin because often we simply think we’re alone and no one knows because we keep it secret so this allows us to think “ it’s not a big deal everyone does it “ but when we are aware God is right there ups oir actions change in his presence ? Would we act much more like in the pew on Sunday ? If we knew God is watching and present ?

if I lie , I’m no different from an adulterer We’re both lawbreakers and liars who don’t repent end up in the same boat as a murderer , the unbeliever the abominations , idolaters and witches ect in other words all sinners who will not repent

Sexual sin can affect our walk with Jesus differently because we are becoming one with someone else for a moment when we have sex . Sex is actually meant to be a pure and clean and holy blessing from God between a married couple for pro creation

but perversions have made it wicked and about pleasure and animal instinct. It’s also somethkng that can bind and addict people like a drug because of the pleasure receptors it fills chemically making us feel good for a moment

God shaped everything right but then we come and defile everything he gave us speech to speak truth and love but we speak lies and deceit and insult

he gave us a sacred bond in a marriage and way to pro create and multiply having precious children but we pervert it into a pleasure we freely seek after

everything God made us to be and do , we have perverted jesusnis about re establishing everything the right way showing us the truth we had long forgotten the ways of zoos meant for mankknd from the beginning before we followed the lie and were corrupted

the earth is out of order

Christ has come to teach us truth of Gods judgements we have perverted and forgotten and lost long ago

I think we ask the wrong question. Often its asked at what point are we in sin when we do "x". I think its best to just love Jesus and serve him. If we drink then do it in moderation. It isnt elemental things that are sin. It's a rebellious heart that is sin.

it is the heart that says " i want to do what i want to do, no matter what".

that is the rebellious heart.

Thanks for the replies and I am going to possibly get a bit lengthy and personal in this post so if no one replies I don't blame you. I haven't had a drink of alcohol since 4 Aug. 1989 and feel bad that I can remember that date more distinctly than any day that I accepted Jesus as my Savior which I cannot remember as a certain day. What I do remember is that on 24 May 2021 late in the night or possibly, after midnight, reading passages about Jesus praying in Gethsemane and also reading various commentaries about Jesus' prayers in Gethsemane and coming across some commentary that was mentioning the cup being turned to joy and that the Greek word for joy is chara. I was really tired at this time as I had been reading for some time so my understanding of what I was reading and exactly what I understood was fuzzy to say the least. At this time in my life; i.e. early to mid 2021, my praying was possibly still uncertain as I recall. I would pray to the Father in Jesus name asking for the Holy Spirit to lead me to the truth, but then I would ask that I would get some sign that I was doing right and I would think that there is a verse that says that Jews ask for signs and I am almost certain that I'm not Jewish, although from past friends I have known from Latvia and Lithuania and Russia and Ukraine and Syria and Palestine some saying that they are Jews I would start wondering who are these people that call themselves Jews. Just seems to me if some of these past friends really are Jews, anybody can be a Jew. (Sammy Davis)? I also had been in contact by phone with a local group here calling themselves House of Jacob, which I still talk with on occasion, and they are dark tan skin folks that claim to be the "true Israelites". And that is a whole other kettle of 153 fish (Jn.21:!!) which I fixate on at times. So back to asking for a sign; early morning of 25 May 2021 I check the US geological earthquake website, a quirky habit of mine, and it shows a 4.5 magnitude quake near Novaya Chara in Russia. Chara same word as I remembered for joy in the Greek. I had been daily checking that website for maybe two years and never saw any reports of quakes near Novaya Chara. I posted some of this previously on this site and a reply was that yes God does at times give us a sign in response to prayer. And I had searched for the etymology of the Russian word Chara and came up with it possibly meaning cup.I have other occurrances in my life which I can only now explain as God sometimes having to really get the rod out “trying” to get my attention.Maybe I should say that I was finally accepting of Jesus as my savior 25 May 2021.

There’s a condition called auto brewery syndrome where yeast in someone’s gut produces excess ethanol. These people can have an extremely high blood alcohol level and exhibit the typical symptoms of drunkenness. However, they aren’t intentionally getting drunk. So is it a sin?

I have seen reports on the news that some of them have gotten DUI's and had difficult time in court.

Yeah for sure. The police would probably think they’re lying and wouldn’t know any different until all the evidence is sorted out in court. Better have the condition documented well by a doctor.

I think I saw that one of such cases did have doctor's evaluation or something like that but still sounded kind of problematic in court. Maybe just kind of general trying to get the facts straight. How many judges are even aware of that condition.

Probably not many. It’s such a rare condition. It’s being drunk without drinking though. I wonder if it’s a sin? Personally I see it more like a disability rather than willful disobedience.

If the apostles found a drunk person who had auto brewery syndrome would they have known the difference from a real drunkard?

Although I have not had a drink in over 42 years, my liver enzymes always come back with GGT very high. That's the enzyme that shows if a person is drinking too much alcohol. But I never drink, and I don't feel drunk. Something is affecting my liver, and now I am getting liver damage. I have always wondered if I have this. Not enough alcohol to be drunk, but a small amount daily 24/7 might be affecting my liver. Thanks for mentioning this name. Something I need to talk about with my liver specialist.

As to whether it is a sin if you have this syndrome? Of course it is not sin! Sin is something you make a choice to do. How can it be a sin if you have no control over it, and never even knew you had it?

Amen I agree. I’m glad my mentioning of this might be what the cause of your liver problem is. If so I hope and pray a liver specialist doctor can resolve the matter quickly.
