The many versions of The Bible

I have heard many times over how some are so adamant about which version is the correct version to be reading, which is their right to express.

However, I wonder how many others are a little more open minded. My go to is the NIV but, when I read my daily verse I will search the verse in all versions just to see if their is maybe a tidbit more by doing so.

I guess I would relate this as someone who wants to paint their bedroom blue. They know it. They want a blue room....However when they go to the paint store and see Arctic blue or Mediterranean Blue, just blue isn’t enough. The different interpretation of blue by Benjamin Moore or whoever, creates a feeling where they know, that is the color they have been looking for.

The way I see it is like this:

If certain translations are "bad," then what am I when I attempt to discuss the Bible? Are my expressions of the Bible somehow greater than those of an actual translation, translated by men and women much more Biblically learned and aware than myself?

The best commentary is found in other respectable translations. Even the Catholic Bible can lead a person to Christ. Consider all translations for best understanding, and by doing so, we will depend upon the Spirit for teaching, and not the notes of "men" and their commentaries.

In my view some Bibles are better than others. Not because they're easier to read but for other reasons, like the underlying manuscripts and the trustworthiness of the translators. Readability is also a factor; I wouldn't discard that entirely.

When it gets right down to it, I suppose any Bible is better than no Bible; but we shouldn't assume all Bibles are created equal.
