When we state that we have a relationship with Jesus Christ, what exactly do we mean, and how does that work out in our life in practical terms?

Does God speak to you, or has He spoken to you in ways that you cannot deny it?

I have heard His voice a few times in my life (three for correction), the other times I have had vivid dreams that revealed God was speaking to me. He also speaks through His written voice (the holy scriptures) and sometimes through my wife while other times I discern what He is saying, but through it all, I still desire to know Him better because that is what eternal life is all about (Jn 17:3; Eph. 1:17-19).

What say ye? View attachment 244121
the key is to hear and believe the gospel that promises the holy ghost you can always tell because he’s going to always return our thinking to Jesus word

“These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14:25-26‬ ‭KJV‬

part of learning from the spirit is learning from Jesus and the apostles who were all preaching the words of the holy spirit

many times in my life I’ve read stories of men who “heard from God “ and ended up leading them astray into a cult . When someone won’t agree with Jesus teachings we can know they aren’t speaking for him if they are pointing to what he taught and saying that’s true and helping understand it they are in agreement with God

the gospel and Jesus word is the Christian’s North Star

I remember Jim jones he claimed to speak for God and with God “he heard from God and then told the people “ and mostly no one questioned it but what he was saying wasn’t at all what Jesus had said eventually Jim jones threw the Bible on the floor and told them they didn’t need it now they had him he was thier go between with God

well in the end over nine hundred people commuted mass suicide women children and men because this guy convinced a bunch of would be Christian’s that he was able to hear from God and he was telling them what God said

my point is scripture is there for a guide and boundary “ Thou shalt not kill “ anything not agreeing with that is wrong so if someone’s explaining “ God said for us to kill someone “ they aren’t hearing from God

that’s an extreme example but it’s always the same if Jesus said anything in the gospel anyone from God is going to acknowledge it nd speak in accordance with him.

how do we know if someone else is hearing from God ? It’s a dangerous path I realize it’s not what you specifically asking but it’s just a thought of we let people convince us they hear from God and we haven’t experienced that ourselves we can easily become a follower of someone who isn’t the self following but have other Intentions

That is something certain shamans believed they could do, even leave this "reality" altogether.

Which seriously made me wonder: where did they go when they left? o_O:unsure::geek:
It isn't just shamans. I put a post on this thread about whacko's. Some that I knew personally and others whose books I have read. Only when a whacko has a reputable publisher he then becomes an expert or a professor or the chairman of the federal reserve bank.

Well of course science or our level of knowledge can’t match God.
‘This is a fact that science says about itself. It says that science or human knowledge has limits so cannot and will not know everything.
There was a nice little comic about just this, At the conference while listening to the presentation one scientist turns to the other and exclaims "Well he has finally gone over the edge". The ancient Greek philosophies which Paul refers to are still a strong influence today. Stronger possibly than in Pauls' time.

Georges Lemaître

According to the Big Bang theory, the expansion of the observable universe began with the explosion of a single particle at a definite point in time. Georges Lemaître, (1894-1966), Belgian cosmologist, Catholic priest, and father of the Big Bang theory.

Okay so I think we’re going into a different topic here I guess and I’m not sure I follow you but , do you basically hate science in general or what? I’m asking so I can understand.

It's very possible for folks to be led to a trick Christ, and be helped to walk
in the path of a spirit highly skilled at imitating God's spirit. Outstanding
examples are Seventh Day Adventism and the Jehovah's Witnesses.

The deception to be concerned about is a bit more sophisticated: subtle and
impossible to resist when the enemy is your own mind working against you
without your being aware of it like in Leonardo DiCaprio's movie:
INCEPTION.

Dozing sheep hear no voices, and thus get left behind in the sheepfold when
the good shepherd leads his flock out to water and pasture.

1Thess 5:6 . . Let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober.

In other words: when you snooze, you lose.

Jesus used Scripture (the sword of the Spirit) to rebuke the devil. He knew Scripture and when it was being misappropriated. That’s an essential component of spiritual warfare.

I think I understand your apprehension, preferring to just play it safe, but actually God wants people brave enough to really trust Him. All of the prophets and martyrs were willing to die because they were so committed.

God isn’t just going to leave you alone and defenseless and remember no one can snatch you out of God’s hand.

1 John 4:4-6
4You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 5They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

I think it more a matter of WH not trusting the claims of others. There are
people who say, God said this or that to me, or told me to do such-and-such...
when the fruit of that apparently clearly shows it was not God at all. At the same
time it is a common complaint among non-believers, the end result being, anyone
who says anything akin to, "I heard the voice of God," is deemed medication-worthy.

I think we need to be careful here. To not hear His voice does not mean your not a follower/believer/Christian. Christ said blessed are those that believe and never seen.

So how many times have you heard the voice of a stranger? "And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. " Really strangers more then one. Yeah that voice is not always God and we need to discern its God the devil or ouir wo

It is important to recognize that the Lord was in no condition to remember scripture in His state of starvation and dehydration. The use of scripture, in this case, is what the Bible calls "the Sword of the Spirit." The Holy Spirit gave him the word He needed to fight the enemy. This is the same way the Spirit works with us when we need it. The Lord (the Spirit) uses whatever we need now. It could be a picture, a word that our dad said 30 years ago, words that you heard a preacher say six months ago, or something that was said in a movie that you watched some time ago. There is no limit to what the Spirit can use to help us fight the enemy at his level.

Just saying...

I wasn't speaking about giving someone a word of knowledge but hearing from the Lord Himself for me or for anyone else. To know whether the devil is speaking is easy because the word is always harsh, condemning, or destructive. The Lord comes to us in a soothing voice that calms us down, even when He is correcting us, His words are filled and totally void of condemnation.

When we give a word to someone that we believe is from the Lord, it must be an encouraging and uplifting word and must bless the person we are speaking with. If it is a 'correcting' word, it must be in private while the tone of our voice must be soft and completely void of condemnation.

Love is at the heart of it all. 🤠

Has someone said that?

Why not caution against assuming people are more likely hearing demons and not God?

Christ said blessed are those that believe and never seen.
He also said His sheep hear His voice. That is the topic.

Eli1 sincerely I know from the help you gave me that you are firm in your faith and are following the Bible as best you can and you have an advantage in a sense. From the get go I have had whacko's around me and didn't know it. So it is a matter of perspective. For whatever reason I see it as Gods' way of doing His work. I 'worshipped' science. I would refer to science as my savior. A great paradox and a great sin. Science provided for me an escape and comforts. All the world looks to science for the comforts we have today and say science is good. Seems to me the science we have today has been a trap from the get go. We can't live without it. When man lived in 'THE GARDEN' he kicked back and took it easy doing some gardening and enjoying a good life. Today, people don't realize this. I don't see that science can possibly resolve and provide mans' needs. And mans' wants is another story. I can't say now that I hate science, but I try not to place as much emphasis on it as I once did.

But you have heard God's voice. Every time you have read His word you
have heard it.

"In its pages we recognize His voice, we hear a message of deep significance
for every one of us. Through the spiritual dynamism and prophetic force of
the Bible, the Holy Spirit spreads His light and His warmth over all men, in
whatever historical or sociological situation they find themselves."

You know who wrote that? Paulus PP VI, from the Vatican, September 18,
1970

My question is this: If both Catholic and Protestant are hearing God's voice
when they read the Bible; then why are their doctrines so incompatible on
many of Christianity's important issues?

Okay I gotcha now brother and I understand you better.
This is similarly like me “hating” dogs because I was bitten by a dog when I was a kid. I realize that not all dogs are bad …. But I just can’t be too friendly with them :D … so I understand you completely.

In regards to science I would say that man lighting a fire or you playing in your garage with tools is science. But when you worship the fire or your hammer, that’s when worshipping of science begins.
So I completely understand you and I’m glad that you are here at this moment where you are now.
God bless you in your new journey full of hope and good news.

Thnx again for that help on the computer thread and all the best keeping things straightened out on the job. It is amazing what SCIENCE has done for us brother. Even if THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS. And that could be literal.

Eli1 we could just as easily have had a debate over digital vs analog. And there too vinyl records are making a comeback. But cost (money) almost always determines the outcome. I always preferred vinyl.

An outline:
When God sets out to do something He always sends a son. In this day, the son is the Body of Christ with Christ at the Head. He is building us up and setting up conditions in which the body, the individual parts and the body corporately, can grow and mature.

One gift given to members of the body is the prophetic gift. This gift is about hearing God and knowing what He is doing. Like all gifts given today, they are given to some for the benefit of the whole body. To that end, the prophetic gift is given so that the whole body might also learn to hear God and know what He is doing. The understanding of this can be found in Ephesians chapter 4.

With that said, it is easy to spot a prophet who has gone off the rials: they start a "prophetic ministry" where the focus is reliance upon them to hear God for others and report what God said back to the people. This is the old Levitical order. We are under Melchizedek where the grace of God is given freely to all because "all" represent the Body of the Son.

Easy. Some have ears that hear and some have ears that hear and understand.
Reading the Bible is like collecting shells at the beach. Anyone can walk down the beach and find some shells. Likewise, anyone can read the Bible and garner some insight into God. Others who go to the beach bring shovels and pails and dig deeper and find more and better shells. These are like those who study to show themselves approved and compare scripture with scripture. And still there are those who having done all that, sit down and watch as the surf washes over their efforts and parts the sand revealing even more beautiful shells. These are those who meditate on what they have learned and who God washes over their minds revealing even deeper and grander truth.
The world through its own wisdom will never come to know God or understand His word. Differences in doctrine are generally the difference between what an unregenerate man can understand and what a spiritual man can receive.

149. Do Atheists Go to Heaven? Pope Francis Says Yes - Vatican Files

Yes, and now the pope kisses the book of an anti Christ (Koran/Muhammed)
and makes statements that are blatantly un-Biblical. Do you agree with him?

1 Corinthians 11:19~ No doubt there have to be differences among you to show which of you have God's approval.
