I have heard that private companies like Twitter have the right to censor if they want. But I don't get it. Isn't this a breach of their contract? People ran their business through this platform like Dan Bongino and Charlie Kirk.

How is what they did any different than some restaurant refusing to serve you because you are a conservative? But it is actually far worse than that. It is one thing to have sign outside your business saying that they won't serve you if you have a MAGA hat on, but what Twitter did was serve you. They sat at the table, placed their order, paid their money, but never got their food. How is that legal?

Now I get it if you have a policy that says "no shoes, no shirt, no service" and some big guy walks in without a shirt and your waitress is not about to try and throw him out, so they play along without actually serving him. But that is not what happened. These people asked what was going on and Twitter either lied to him by denying they were doing it or else they stonewalled them saying nothing at all. They didn't violate any posted rules. What Twitter did harmed their business, it was intentional, they knew what they were doing, it was deceitful, malicious, and harmful. How is that legal? Why would anyone defend this?

Imagine you went to a hospital and they decided not to treat you because you had a Maga hat on, would people argue that it is a private business so they have the right to do what they please?

Imagine you tried to rent an apartment and you had a Maga hat on so they lied to you that they didn't have any vacancies even though when you called fifteen minutes earlier they said they did. Is that legal?

NOW for a REAL MILITARY UPDATE with a DIFFERENCE in the BIG PICTURE!!! TILT!!!

I understand that if you were a private school, say a Christian school or a Jewish school that you might feel the need to censor certain material and amplify other material. For example a public school would never teach the Bible but you might think that would be standard at a Christian or Jewish school. It is the same thing for a newspaper, magazine or TV station. OK, perhaps as an employee you feel your views are being censored, but that was probably stated up front before you even took the job and they are paying your salary. Perhaps you later realize you don't want to work under those restrictions and so leave. I get how the company has the right to do that and since you are representing the company it isn't that they are censoring your right to free speech, they are only protecting their right as a company to have those who represent the company do that in a way they see fit.

But these private companies are therefore held accountable to what their representatives say. You could sue them if they were publishing something inflammatory like the Shah of Iran, or pornographic, or in some other way illegal. But Twitter was exempt saying they were a platform, not a publisher. If Twitter were a publisher you could sue them for publishing hate speech, or inciting a riot, or distributing child pornography, etc. But they are exempt from that saying they don't censor and yet that was a lie.

So it seems to me they shouldn't be exempt from being sued for what was published on their site and/or the people they censored who didn't violate any preexisting contractual agreement should also be able to sue.
