I understand sports, I dont understand you wanting to soften sports up? Sports like boxing, rugby, wrestling etc should be left alone. You keep changing the rules may as well cancel the sport, It wont be the same.
Yes I am a parent and a teacher. I dont borrow or have anyones children on loan for a few minutes. A few minutes is hardly 6 hours with them on a daily.
There are parents who have children with behavioural problems that think they have to be the childs best friend. Ask any psychologist.
Thats an extreme case of 7 neurodiverse students in one class and if diagnosed most principals would not allow that many in one class. So no unless its a classroom specifically for that intent, then its unlikely. Its too easy to say oh there might be 7 nd in any one class. Youre only guessing at that point.
Nobody in the thread said they hate children - that is a ridiculous statement to make and at the other end of extreme.
A smack on a toddlers hand to correct the child is not the same as beating the crap out of them til they are in hospital.
And no, physical discipline is not allowed in NZ.
I am not guessing that is the reality wake up narrowpath. Everyone is not as priveliged as you are.

toddlers learn not by being smacked, they will actually self correct. But you DO have to watch them all the time. Remember the little girl Ainsling who drowned (not far from where I live) cos her mother was not watching for a few minutes? Thats all it takes.

Should she have been smacked? For wandering off? No children are naturally curious especially at toddler stage. But you absolutely have to be watching them or holding them, not neglecting them and giving them smacks for neglecting your duty as a parent.

Your interpretation on what discipline is...idiotic sorry to be blunt narrowpath

and nobody is stopping you if you REALLY wanna smack your toddler. Though he or she may scream and hate you for doing so. But wouldnt it be better to hold them instead?

There is no law against hugging children.

also it has been proven that comforting touch is beneficial for all children it helps them feel secure. Why do neurodiverse children have weighted blankets and vests then and why was Jesus wrapped in swaddling cloths.

?

wrestling is fine as it pits opponents in close contact as a challenge for both
and boxing is with padded gloves.

someone htting a child just to have power over them is completely different.

So suspending the students just gives them a holiday from learning. Who is disciplining our young people if the state threatens uplift if the parents smack their children for misbehaving?
End of year and still students are being suspended for fighting and other undesirable behaviour.
Most schools model a framework of positive behaviour but it doesnt work on some students. A mostly female school staff isnt helping either. Boys dont respect their authority. Its pretty disheartening to see how angry these young boys can get. I think schools are too soft on bad behaviour and most principals dont set the best standard for their schools. Some people think its abuse but you can ask the children nicely in a positive tone to correct the behaviour maybe several times or you can get the strap out and this speeds up the correction.
I think the school system is too far gone. Too many teachers can't even tell the difference between right and wrong - I wouldn't want them having the authority to spank kids - they'd probably spank the good children, and leave the bad.

I don't have anything against spanking kids - the bible says this is the Godly way to raise children, and "he who spares the rod hates his son". So all those who say spanking children means parents hate them - God says the opposite - it's those who don't spank that are hating their children. But to give this authority to unbelieving teachers - pagans, heathens and philistines - I wouldn't support it. Perhaps in a Christian society, it would be acceptable (again). But in our society, the teachers and government are likely wrong on matters of morality more often than the children.

...I would not trust your judgement over matters Narrowpath when you obviously were taken in by Robertt when it was obvious to everyone on CC that he was playing you.

Perhaps you just sounding off because you dont really know how to deal with special needs children/people.

Temple Grandin has often written about what works in terms of discipline for autistic/neurodiverse people esp growing up she NEVER attributed her worth as a human being to anyone hitting or smacking her. In fact, she will not mention her father who had a temper and didnt want anything to do with her.

Anytime someone asks her about her dad she will not say much. But she will talk about how her teachers encouraged her and believed in her, and how her mother taught her manners (also with help of a nanny)

Smacking a toddler is an option its one of several options. Just like the strap in schools was an option for students who came to school disrespectful and rebellious from not being disciplined at home. How many times do I have to say this?

Why are you trying to make a link between my personal life and my job as a teacher? At least I live my life Lanolin, so shoot me for believing and taking a chance on love.
Id prefer if parents discipline their children at home so at work my colleagues and I dont have to deal with students who throw chairs around in class. Thats the reality that you sitting in the library dont see.

Maybe you are sounding off because you got fired Lanolin? You disrespected the new boss and so by your standards both our judgements go out the window. 😁😎🤷‍♀️

Maybe the rod is a metaphor for discipline and doesn't necessarily mean physically striking the child?

So why not use something else as the metaphor for discipline, then? I don't believe God is disingenuous. He isn't scared to say what He means. Plenty of other more socially taboo or awkward topics in the bible that God speaks about plainly and openly - I doubt He'd have been concerned of upsetting our sensitivities on something as minor as discipline.

Surely if God was intending us not to use the rod as the primary method of discipline, but rather, the naughty corner, that's what He'd have said?

"He who spares the 'naughty corner' hates his son"? I think not. :)

Spare the rod spoil the child. Proverbs 13:24 and 22:15. Things have gotten much worse over the past 60 years as we removed teaching the bible in schools and studying the bible chapter by chapter and verse by verse. Evil has slowly crept in to pollute our culture.

Three vet's were discussing their families' service. One said, "my great grandfather was with Custer at his last battle". Another said, "My great grandfather was with George Washington when he crossed the Delaware River". The last vet said, "I'm the only member of my family to serve, but if my great grandfather were here today, he would tell us that he was the most unusual American to ever live". "How's that?" one vet asked. "It's simple", the third vet said. "He would be 158 years old."

Smack someone today. Go ahead, you know you want to. Preferably a small, misbehaving child.

You know what really works?

Baptism. Get the child to believe in Jesus then, dunk in swimming pool and....bob's your uncle!
