A bit of a reminisce. Which products from your home from years ago do you miss or don't miss? Some didn't really work very well and made hard work necessary to do your cleaning. Products you don't find in the shops these days.

I came across a reference to OMO today, it was always in our house. I remember Vim, it never really cleaned very well. We always had Vosene shampoo and fairy toilet soap and lux which I liked. I didn't like Imperial Leather as it didn't lather up very well. We had so little choice back then, life was simpler.

Certain smells bring memories of childhood and youth back in an instant. As I get older I look back more to bring a child.

hmm well I am not very good at cleaning though I just bought a new (plastic) dustpan yesterday

In the days before microfibre cloths people used cut up old rags.

I had a robovac I got from the sally army for $60 but my cousin has a high tech one that cost her over $1000.
I still use the tellus nilfisk one though mum got a rubber hose put on it cos the plastic one broke. You cant use a robovac to get in corners or up high

I also have a carept sweeper which is good when you dont wan to use noisy vacs with long power cords.

I recall dad would use this pink pungent smelling paste called Chemico. It was probably highly toxic to anyone that touched it. Mum also used Vim, but we dont use that anymore. She still uses Handy Andy.

I just use shampoo to clean the bath. Still have Lux soap.

...and fairy toilet soap...
I can't stop laughing.

Is fairy toilet soap really a thing?

Who invented it?

Ben Dover?

Interesting thread. Reminds me of https://christianchat.com/christian-family-forum/remenissing-about-days-of-yore.207236/#post-4912572

I unfortunately can't think of anything except I JUST used a "dustbuster" that I just had to charge for the first time in well over a month and I am not at all satisfied. Were the old dustbusters better? I recall them being great and these new ones are awful...I have to literally suction directly onto the floor/surface and then very slightly lift up and suction again to get things picked up. Terrible.

No it is not called a dustbuster but it is a handheld vacuum. I just recall my grandmother having one and it IS a great idea for cat litter.

I spent 15 minutes trying to think of some failed product that I was required to use to clean and can't come up with a thing. Alas. I can say that "elbow grease" was not my favorite thing and I am glad that more efficient solutions exist today.

Oh I used to house Sunlight liquid. Also Morning Fresh was good. Now I am a fan of fairy Platinum which is so efficient it is my favourite.

I checked half a dozen stores for Woolite for wool and I don't see it anywhere. Even the cheaper knock off version is gone since I last bought it. I might be able to get by with shampoo and conditioner, but they all have fragrance. For blankets, that's not a good thing. The woolite brand has two types but neither says safe for wool. That's what made me notice this thread title.
