The Race Of Faith
There was this boy who was determined to ride his back without training wheels. So he woke up early one morning, threw on his favorite outfit, and walked past the helmet because he felt invincible. His father was waiting in the driveway with his bike and without the training wheels. His father calls him over to get started. The boy ran towards him in excitement. Hops on the bike, and father jogs along beside him. The father then tells the boy he is about to let go.
In anticipation, the son tightens his grip, leans in, and peddles faster. The father lets go, and within a few seconds, the boy falls over and scrapes his knee.
Despite the pain, this same process was repeated over and over with little progression each time. But the son was dedicated, and the father was filled with joy. Over time the father could step away, and eventually, the son could start independently.
The boy would get into racing, building ramps, and daredevil stunts. The father would watch, occasionally stepping in to help secure a ramp, fix the bike, or offer advice. The son would face many moments where he wrecked that bike and was hurt too many times to count.
But his love was for all that the bike stood for. An adventure, excitement, pain, joy, and fulfillment. No matter the pain, the boy would climb back on, time and time again, knowing the success was worth the pain. The victory is worth the loss of blood and skin. Making his father proud was worth all the trials.
Faith is like this boy and the bike. Despite the pain, failures, and losses, the child of faith will keep climbing back on top of that bike. Perseverance is the true test of genuine faith.
James 1:12 ESV
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
The father called the boy, and the boy responded in excitement. The Father calls us all to respond to His calling of salvation and reception through the blood of Jesus Christ. It will feel amazing at first until we fall the first time. But He is there to pick you up, and over time He gives you room to mature. We may try to do things our way until we crash, but in faith, we turn back to the one who can repair, secure, and guide us in the direction we should go.
Like the boy's perseverance, we must persevere in faith until we receive the Crown of Life. When the race is over, despite the scars, blood, sweat, and tears, it will all be forgotten as we embrace victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Join the race; your crown is waiting.
