CAMPFIRE STORIES.......
I'LL bet many of you went to youth camp or with family and sat around a fire in the evening telling stories, laughing perhaps scaring the children ...
well here one you probably havent heard...
In the early 1980's I was recommended to be a Camp councilor at a mid Michigan Christian youth camp....I spent some time praying about it...and sort of put a fleece out before God..
I had asked him to let me be a witness to the salvation of young hearts...in every week I was there...
I made a special point of getting alone with each camper every week and sharing the Gospel and inviting them to receive Jesus as their Savior.
on a particular hot day we were on the tennis courts slapping the ball around and I noticed a young man sitting by himself in the shad against the cinder block wall.....PERFECT OPPORTUNITY!!!
I sat don beside him and chatted as well as sharing the gospel with him...he admitted that he sometimes went to church but wasnt regular...I invited him to commit his life to Jesus ...and he did!!!
You would think this is the end of the story READ ON........
the camp was large and had several specific camping areas and activities , but in the evening after settling down there was a large campfire and all the councilors & kids would gather sing songs tell stories and perhaps share a testimony....
I always encouraged my campers to particularly the ones that made a decision to stand and share with the camp...most did.
On this evening, the young man who had given his life to Christ did as was normal and stood with his new found faith shared his experience with the camp.......
soon after two young men, stood across the fire from me and my group to give their testimony..........
the opening words would stun me...........
" THANX TO COUNCILOR CUNNINGHAM WE GAVE OUR HEARTS TO JESUS TODAY AND WANT TO THANK HIM FOR SHARING THE GOSPEL WITH US" with my jaw dropped having NOT EVEN spoken to them the continued..." YOU SEE MR CUNNINGHAM WHILE YOU WERE TALKING TO YOUR CAMPER AGAINST THE TENNIS WALL......WE WERE SITTING ON THE OTHER SIDE LISTENING ......AND WE PRAYED ALONG WITH YOU AND YOUR STUDENT TOO!!!!!
Mat 5:16 "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
