https://dailycaller.com/2023/03/15/americans-evangelicals-most-unfavorable-religion-poll/

"A new poll found that 27% of Americans view evangelicals as the most unfavorable religious group, with Jews ranking as the most favorable, according to Pew Research Center (PRC).

The poll asked Americans to rank six of the mainstream religious groups in the country: Jews, mainline Protestants, Catholics, Muslims, Mormons and Evangelical Christians. Americans indicated that they had the most negative feelings toward Evangelical Christians at 27%, with Mormons coming second at 25%, according to the poll."

Is this in line with Jesus saying the world would hate his disciples as well as they did him? Or, is this evidence of a poor witness of evangelicals for Christ?

"Now a bishop must be above reproach, married only once, temperate, sensible, respectable, hospitable, an apt teacher,..." (1Tim 3:2 NRSV)

Yeah, I think it's the first one: "in line with Jesus saying the world would hate his disciples as well as they did him"

Evangelicals have been the most resistant against the globalist agenda.

I don't think Evangelicals care if they are unfavorable either as long as they're pleasing God.

I would be very happy to see more evangelicals join the cause of Christ in learning the clear gospel and sharing that good news with the world. No doubt many will despise us. They hated and persecuted our Savior. When Paul took off and carried out all of the second half of Acts, he didn't run a popularity campaign. He didn't seek to be loved of the world. He preached the gospel and established churches. That had infinitely more impact than any of the wealthiest kingdoms of the earth.

Luke 10

Luke 21:17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake.

If you are not hated of all men that is a problem.

Luke 20:46 Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love salutations in the marketplaces, and chief seats in the synagogues, and chief places at feasts; 47 who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater condemnation.

You want to beware and steer clear of any Christian leader who is loved in the marketplace.

Matthew 5:11 Blessed are ye when men shall reproach you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets that were before you.

It seems to me the word of God is very clear on this. Why would anyone be confused?

Matthew 23:29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and garnish the tombs of the righteous, 30 and say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we should not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. 31 Wherefore ye witness to yourselves, that ye are sons of them that slew the prophets. 32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. 33 Ye serpents, ye offspring of vipers, how shall ye escape the judgment of [o]hell? 34 Therefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: some of them shall ye kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city: 35 that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous unto the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the sanctuary and the altar. 36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

I get the impression from those outside the faith, that they do not disrespect evangelicals for the gospel, the teaching of that Jesus Christ is truly God, and the only atonement is through the death of Jesus Christ. I believe Paul and Peter have given us the description of the real problem.

"What business of mine is it to judge outsiders? God is their judge. But within the fellowship, you are the judges: ‘Root out the wrongdoer from your community.’" (1Cor 5:12-13 REB)

"Be wise in your dealings with outsiders, but use your opportunities to the full. Let your words always be gracious, never insipid; learn how best to respond to each person you meet." (Col 4:5-6 REB)

He [the leader, pastor, bishop] must moreover have a good reputation with the outside world, so that he may not be exposed to scandal and be caught in the devil’s snare. (1Tim 3:7 REB)

"Let it be your ambition to live quietly and attend to your own business; and to work with your hands, as we told you, so that you may command the respect of those outside your own number, and at the same time never be in want." (1Thess 4:11-12 REB)

"If you are reviled for being Christians, count yourselves happy, because the Spirit of God in all his glory rests upon you. If you do suffer, it must not be for murder, theft, or any other crime, nor should it be for meddling in other people’s business. But if anyone suffers as a Christian, he should feel it no disgrace, but confess that name to the honour of God." (1Pet 4:14-16 REB)

The two main areas that seem to draw the most disrespect, are abortion and same-sex relationships. These are two topics that vary greatly in the Bible translations of the pertinent verses, and complete agreement among the assembly of Christ through the centuries is absent. It is little wonder that evangelicals are considered "haters" and it doesn't take long on the Internet to see it. Yes, yes, the depraved and leftists are haters too, but Christians are to be better.

Evangelicals come across more like the Pharisees of Christ's day, who attack others who reject their idea of religion and sin.

I believe it has more to do with Christian nationalism; at least right now. They're seen as a bunch of hateful bigots; and not without good reason in many cases. Unfortunately they're also the most vocal so that's the face of Evangelical Christianity people see and remember.

The problem with such polls is that its not scientific at all. Evangelical can mean anything in the mind of a person. Every form of church from old Southern Baptist to the NAR, and probably most people think of televangelists, and they strike disgust in the hearts of manyChristians as well as non.
I place no confidence in any such polls.

Unfortunate but true. Living out a life of faith is a much more powerful witness than words to unbelievers.
In John 5:19 Jesus says He always did what He saw the Father doing. This is much different than always evangelizing. God isn't always stirring the hearts of those around us. So many are busy when God is still.
This is at least in good part due to the lack of real and vital and intimate relationship lacking in so many Christians. We profess to be led by the Spirit but we know little of true spirituality.
Even the children of Israel in the desert had the good sense to remain in place until the pillar of smoke and fire moved. Probably alot more wood, hay, and stubble being collected than gold, silver, and precious stone.

Well I now know that God is quite normal actually.
I was previously taken to an evangelical worship session and the first thing that came to mind was the Wild West movies that we saw on tV. When the red indians were making their charge against their enemy, with their high pitched loud babbling kind of noise. That kind of evangelical behaviour is definitely not worshipping God.
Those Christians have not been taught properly from the scriptures.
Just a form of godliness…
2 Timothy 3:5 KJV
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

"Evangelical worship session"? The hymn "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" is a typical Evangelical worship session.

Evangelical refers to those preaching the gospel actively like Charles Wesley.

Shrieking in a meeting is far more typical of a Kundelini spirit that refers to occultist claiming to be Christian.

So many little groups doing their own thing here, (I suppose you have to start somewhere.)
And some of them,
Instead of preaching the love of God, they yell about hell fire.

I heard the testimony of a gang member who died and went to hell but was resuscitated. His thought was if Christians knew about this and didn't tell us that is pure hate.

True. I have heard the preaching of one who suffered from burns to his whole body. He promised God that if he spared his life he would preach the hell fire he saw and suffered.

What do you think we should do about these two main areas, abortion and same-sex relationships, that seem to draw the most disrespect?

God is very clear about His stance on them and He's destroyed whole cities because of them.

I can see where this is going.....

Sure enough. The anti-christians are rampant, and rabid.

That’s why I automatically placed pentecostals under “evangelical” in post #9 because Pentecostals were not mentioned.
Oddly enough, Lutherans were at one time also considered evangelical. And are also not on the list.

They certainly are. Just yesterday, I saw a bumper sticker on a car that read, "I don't care what the Bible says." :(
I always find that ironic. They will quote "the golden rule" when it comes to how they want to me treated.
