Drawing The Line in My Sand with The Pom Poms

Hi folks,

This is the closest forum I could find for what Lisa and I saw tonight watching the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. There is a male on the cheerleading team flashing pom poms. I know we are living in a liberal era (to say the least...) and I try to be open minded, but this is taking it too far in my opinion.

Here is a YouTube link of the team:

University of Utah spirit squad visits FOX 13 studios to prepare for home opener this weekend - YouTube

I'm curious to receive feedback from our community on this issue. My vote is two thumbs down.

God forgives anyone who repents and believes. Its just quite obvious that homosexuals etc are living in sin but you dont have to outright mention that sin to them as they may know anyway but are just dealing with it the only way they know how.

A poster mentioned root causes being idolatry and fornication and often it might be a family member whos molested them from a young age and they hadnt been able to tell anyone.

In my experience of people that I know it has always been some deeper issue than 'I suddenly find myself attracted to the same sex' there might have been adultery and breakdown of family or fornication and abuse prior to that.

In todays world they cant do anything about it (nobody seems to go to jail or is stoned for adultery anymore) and homosexuality and prostituion are now legalised in many countries as are same sex marriages as people have pretty much given up trying to deal with the effects of it all, so they ve turned it into 'pride' thing instead. But God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.

If you have someone who self identifies and is proud you might have a hard time witnessing rather than to someone whos admitted they are broken and in need of a saviour. The other thing is Jesus understands that for some they may not marry or they are eunuchs etc. Jesus never married either, and he got a lot of male attention esp from Judas so Hes no stranger to that world. However He can put things right and save people from their sins, although its a bit more to it than simply 'praying the gay away'

The other thing is, and people dont seem to realise this, when parents have children and they may have a girl firstborn instead of a boy, they treat the girl like a boy until a male child is born so the girl seems to wish shed been born a boy instead.

Or there are too many boys in the family and the mother wants a girl but she has none so might treat one boy like a daughter. Also with war and everything there are quite a few population imbalances.

I am for gender equality but the way it manifests if you do separate boys from girls particularly in single sex schools is homosexual 'relationships' actually become common. but then if you have the sexes together they tend to fornicate anyway so...its all a bit of a muchness...sexual sins can be one of the hardest things to repent of. I would guess that a lot of shotgun marriages the wife was pregnant and fornicated before the wedding...so its not like heterosexuality has one up from homosexuality. Its just either covered up more and even become acceptable. to have a mistress, concubine, prostitute whatever.

several in Jesus lineages were former prositutes eg Rahab, Tamar, and he also forgave Mary Magdalene who was involved with prostitution...people always used to suspect that Davids friend was attracted to him but I dont know if that is explicit in the bible, although the whole tribe of Benjamin apparently went gay, and when God saved Lot out of Sodom and Gomorrah he want able to save Lots wife who looked back and the daughters commited incest with their dad! (this became Moab) But the Moabites eventually converted which is why book of Ruth is in the Bible.

I have many good friends that are homosexuals and worry about their faith. How do I witness to them without coming
off as 'holier than thou' and threatening our friendship?
god forgives all sins except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. however, there are people that read God will forgive sins & carry on a life of sinfulness thinking's they are forgiven. NO, NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN! God will not forgive unrepentant sin. that is he or she who commits sin willingly without remorse or an attempt forsake the sin. 1 of the Peter books explains "it is better for a man to not know the ways of righteousness than to have known the ways of righteousness & veered from them. just tell it like it is diplomatically with kindness, not to cruel but not to kind. your better off having a Bible in hand & SHOW them the word. i have a way of telling people whats going on in more of the old fashioned way: RIGHT TO THE POINT! in today's age there is way too much softness.

I think the same as anyone else who is lost. Show them love, let them know you care about their soul and you want them to be in eternity with you. I wouldn't push, I would allow the Holy Spirit to lead.

Ahhh zombie thread, I fell for it.

The suspicion of an erotic physical relationship between David and Jonathon is alive and well today. Anyone who claims they had one is in the realm of speculation at best.

I had a pretty intensive conversation with a professor who believed David and Jonathon had a "homoerotic" relationship, and she wanted me to revise my thesis to reflect this. No way. I ended up defending the Biblically-based documentation that reflected Godly love that was selfless and spiritual between these two warriors and close friends.

The secular world cannot comprehend the love of God. When they see in-depth intimacy between people, they think it's physical and sexual. That's not the way it works in God's family--outwardly focused on the best interest of others and glorifying our gracious God!

Sister Lynnie, Before Jesus, I was not a nice person, I was very much a street person, and you know what that means! After Jesus saved me in a mop closet in college (Long story in it self!! LOL) I like you thought how to witness? These people who I called ah so called friends are never going to believe me, they know how bad of a person I truly was!

Jesus himself showed us how to witness, not with words but rather by action in one's own life, sure you going to make mistakes as I have, but you know your heart and so does the Lord! My old crew was not happy about my change! When they asked me what in the hell happened to me, just like in Mark 5 as I was in the same boat before Jesus delivered me and saved me. (Mark 5:15-20!!!)

Some of course did not believe me, and I did not expect them to either (that is how bad I once was!!) So, I just said if you need help in changing your life, I am here for you. BUT because of Jesus I can no longer act like I was, it is not because I am any better than you are, but Jesus now lives big in me and I intend to follow after him, even as you once followed after me. Peace be with you.

After 3 months of severe testing, I was walking down the street one day when one of my old crew from an alleyway whispered hey Mark over here!! Hey Ben!! Would please pray for me, right there and then I prayed, and he was both saved and like me, a GREAT PEACE fell on him! Jesus first loved, and people saw him, Jesus had compassion, and people saw him, then when Jesus did speak his words carried great power, because people saw his deeds!! (James 1:22)

This helped me sister greatly, but you also must stay in God's Word daily!! and remember at least 4 or 5 scriptures, other then John 3:16! YOU!!! must be sold out to Jesus, the street can smell both fear, and doubt! You must watch the words you use as well!! Words have great power sis! And find a good church for support for we all need it. For when we go to church, we are not looking for another to bless us, we are looking to bless them!! For our Lord Jesus said (Acts 20:35!!)

So why am I saying so much to you?? Because I see in my Spirit that IF you follow in this the Lord will move on your behalf!! Just as he promised those who would truly follow in him!! ( Mark 16:20!!) I can tell you he always has for me sis,he sure will for you!! Blessing!!

some 7-8 year old girls asked me today in the library at school 'can girls marry girls?'

I said they can, but its not right.

They didnt question me further, but thats all I could think of to say.

I could have said no all girls are to young too marry. You can only get married if you are a grown woman.

Children are getting those ideas somewhere.
I overheard a teenager ask their parent that once. The mother replied as she had heard from her church. She told her daughter, It's an alternative lifestyle."

I asked where THAT came from? Like why would that question even come up?

She said it was what her lezbeen pastor told them at her at the First Lesbyterian Church.

The right answer is that defined by God since He is the One Who ordained marriage.
That needs to be taught to all children.

God protect them from the weirdoes. The parents sure aren't doing it.

I like your original response. We tend to candy-coat harmful actions and behaviors to be "politically correct" and "accepting" today. Yet by doing this, we are not throwing up the proper cautions and warnings that a life apart from God is empty and unfulfilling.

If the divorce rate is 50% or better among traditional marriages, I suspect it is much higher in non-traditional marriages. It's hard to have a successful marriage if God isn't a part of it.

yea thats the thing, everyone seems ok now with gay marriages but nobody ever talks about gay divorce, which will probably be inevitable.

What some have to remember is that Jesus is not a hobby. What we do matters in both word as well as deed. If one is going to be a witness to our living Lord Jesus, then be a witness! Otherwise, be a heathen!

Jesus does not tolerate lukewarm believers. (Rev 3:16) This warning is not to spank anyone here! I myself am in my last days here on earth. and as a disciple I give us all this final warning. (Numbers 6:24-26!!) By keeping the very name of our Jesus upon you lips continually you are sons and daughters of our MOST HIGH GOD! Blessing all!!

Yes, where would that question come from for sure--it wasn't even a thought on our minds as children when I was growing up.

Sure, there were gay relationships going on in the small town that I grew up in, but those people certainly didn't advertise or "celebrate" it. They would have faced serious backlash from our community.

I vote two thumbs down 👎👎.
But it's only because I only have two hands.
In grade school, us boys would play touch football we called, Smear the Queer. I don't think anyone actually knew what a queer was at that point. Lol

In HS there was a male cheerleader. I wondered, Why is this guy not out there playing ball? He seems very flamboyant and he's popular with the girls. Hmmm..the girls?
Next scene working on a class project with the sweet, modest Apostolic girl. She tells me about seeing the cheerleader guy at the downtown gay bar. She was shocked!
I was shocked too: Not about the pom pom boy.
I was wondering what in the world my dress wearing, hair down to here, Pentecostal friend was doing at a gay bar? 🤔

Honestly, I was shocked, and we should be shocked as a society.
