Can a Christian woman get Botox?
What about lash enhancement, hair colour at salon, or nails/pedicure? getting a massage or facial? Laser hair removal?

To what extent is looking good according to “society norms” acceptable and not vanity. Is it just how it makes you feel? Like if you’re doing it to look better than others (and think you are/haughty look)
I know we’re not supposed to draw attention to ourselves and be modest and outward appearances should not be consuming out thoughts etc..

1 Samuel 16:1-13 (NRSV) “The Lord does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

1 Peter 3:3-4. “Your beauty should not come from outward adornments, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.”

Proverbs 31:30
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

And then there’s the money spent on these things.. I feel it’s pretty normal for women to spend a good amount of money for hair cut/colour these days at the salon. Is there any boundary/limit to how much we can spend on these treatments or are some accepted while others off limits?

Or is it just what a individual’s convictions are for each one and there’s no “rules”

Like I don’t feel anything is wrong doing my own nails from home and my own hair
Yes it takes time out of my life to keep up these treatments but I want to look good for my husband as well. I shave my legs too 🤣
Is there anything wrong with spending money on botox to get rid of an angry line between my brows?
I have a feeling it is wrong because it’s money that could be used for much better things…
But I don’t want to look angry anymore. 😣

What are all y’all’s thoughts on these things?

Well, if being beautiful is a crime, lock me up and throw away the key!

Peter is addressing shallowness and the other verses you offered support this idea, imo. I don't think it is that you shouldn't care of your outer appearance but that you should care as much for the condition of your heart and the health of your spirit, keeping it 'presentable,' no 'air' out of place.

I'd try a good moisturizer, w/ the better ingredients infused, before I try injecting botulism into my face. Look into a glycolic acid serum. A little goes a long way. I have a pretty prominent laugh line on my left side and have wondered if I should consider tucking it under my ear but then I'd worry what it might turn out looking like if I could only afford a two-bit surgeon. But if it came down to that Botox is the only thing that'd help? I'd probably just live with it and look forward to my change at the resurrection.

And on the other hand, Botox is being touted as treatment for some menopausal symptoms, I guess, so, maybe I'm just ignorant of its benefits other than treating wrinkles. There's always that. :)

If it will help you feel more confident and better about yourself I do not think it is wrong at all.

I liken it to buying work out equipment,or joining a gym to stay strong in mind and body.

Collagen supplements can help as well. :)

It is true that God does not see as man sees.

However, if you're in the market for a husband, and you're looking for a mere mortal...

A lot of things you mentioned are just routine maintenance.

Taking care of hair or nails...you can do that at home or at the salon. I basically only do pedicures during the summer, and manicures before business trips. If I had a boyfriend, I'd probably do pedicures/manicures more often.

If you don't like to shave regularly/at all, do laser hair removal. This doesn't have much to do with looks per se. Society doesn't accept women walking around hairy, plus there is the convenience aspect. Over the long run you may even save money if you factor in shaving items.

I also did microblading on my eyebrows since I do not like to draw them regularly. Long unnatural-looking lashes do not appeal to me.

I did massages on a routine basis for awhile. I think self care is important.

I don't like doing facials as I can do that myself at home. I can't give myself a massage but I can do my own facial.

Personality I don't see the issue with botox, hair transplant, or teeth whitening, etc. It also depends to what extreme you are pursuing these treatments, and how much you are spending. This can show what you consider as priorities.

"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."
Proverbs 31:30

I've always thought this verse is speaking to a beautiful woman who is placing too much importance on her already good looks, rather than to the "average" looking woman, like the "beautiful" sister out of a group of sisters (Scarlett Ohara, for example). This verse is a reminder to all women, but I found it is targeted more at the "beautiful" woman to refocus her priorities.

Esther had six months of beauty treatment for King Xerxes in the Bible. but she was already young.

I dont know about angry lines. Have you been angry a lot? Try and smile more?

Isnt botox made from a TOXIN.
people are afraid of having vaccines but they would inject a toxin in their face? well once you start you cant stop on the botox treadmill am warning you. I dont know how expensive it is.

I go to the dentist but I dont really like paying the fees. But thats more of a hygiene thing than a cosmetic thing. However it will keep my teeth looking good I suppose.

Maybe try the mashed banana and honey treatment first?

the Bible speaks of "adorning" the hair. any woman & man can tell immediately when a woman is OVER adorned whether its face, hair, ear rings, lipstick, eye lashes & clothes. i've seen women who looked like over dressed mannequins! common sense will always tell a woman she's over dressed but will the woman listen to her conscious? a LITLE bit here & there is always best.

I think God is totally fine with you sticking some sellotape/sticky glue all over your face and pulling out the blackheads.

God is my make-up artist. He picks out all the perfect color schemes that are the best match for me and places them on the clearance rack.

Everything is permissible....not everything is beneficial.

All treatments come with a cost outside of money. But some are expensive. Implants in chest, lips, cheeks, butts, and hips. Bleaching of various locations. Botox paralyzing injections, hair removal, eyelids, eyebrows, liposuction and gastric bypasses. All cost something other than the financial expense.

For example 75% of those women who get a gastric bypass will lose their gallbladder AND their husband. They will get divorced....just saying. No known precise cause but psychologists say it has something to do with the violent shift of self perception of body image and what they actually see in the mirror.

Where some people get dentistry to the point of incredibility....I say you need teeth to eat.

So in the end....up to you. Who are you? Why does this appearance thing matter so much to you? Grumpy look doesn't mean that you are. But people treating you as if you are grumpy all the time can make you feel like being grumpy all the time....which is the heart of the real problem. Why are you valuing what other people think to the point it's changing you?

I stopped caring about a woman's appearance a long time ago (thankfully). I don't understand Christians who focus on external superficialities; it seems so phony. The word "hypocrite" comes from the Greek word for a stage actor; in other words, someone who pretends or acts. I really wish Christian women would drop all the pretense and work as much on having a good heart as they do on their external appearance. To me, women who paint themselves up look like circus clowns really.

there are lots of hypocrites on CC they all just come out of the woodwork to admit it.

They just arent brave enough to STOP being hyprocrites. I dont think theres any limit to what people do in terms of appearance I mean drag queens go all the way to change their appearance and spend all their time and money on it and they arent even women , so women who ARE already naturally women probably dont need to so much lol

I think its indivudual convictions really and how much you can afford (or if you a rich tai tai or trophy wife, how much your husband can afford) though most christian women I know are actually not in the public eye.
if you do happen to be, like on tv, film or whatever, they have whole teams of stylists, makeup artists and wardrobes working for you as part of your budget anyway. And they may do whatver it takes to have you staying looking like a 20 year old.

But who goes around doing that all the time just for photo ops instead of just doing good works from the heart.

Some people might think of vanity when this topic comes up.

For a human perspective, as a man, I don't want a woman with a fake face that has been cut up to look like someone else, or fake breasts. Botox doesn't bother me. Silicon implants and injections, lip tattoos, that's just gross to me. And I see women, online or in media usually, who have these fat unnatural top lips that don't match their bottom lip. Or it doesn't match their race or the shape of any human face, and it just looks strange and weird.

Face, mouth, nose, and eye jewelry make women and men look disgusting. Tattoos in the same areas do the same.
