there are varying stories of the origins of rock & roll. some say allen freed coined the term. but before that, as far back as 1881, john morton performed a song entitled "rock & roll". there's a story of a woman rocking in a chair in the late 1890's who said, "i'm a rollin' & a rockin'. also, at "camp meeting jubilee", the edison male quartet & the columbia quartet performed a song called "rock & roll". in the 17th century, sailors used the term "rock & roll" to describe the movement of the ship. & origins of gospel music include lyrics of rock & roll. if someone wants to label "rock & roll" as filthy in a sexual way, evil or other ungodly meanings, that never means that that is the "official" meaning. all rock & roll is not filthy, evil or sinful. we all know that there is plenty of evil music & that the devil is a major influence of it. allen freed once declined to assert any evil to the meaning rock & roll. i threw out all my evil ungodly r&r records in 1990. i'm a drummer & i will listen to rock music to analyze styles, talent, originality, sounds, dynamics, simplicity, rhythm & arrangements. I DO NOT WORSHIP ANY OF IT. musicians all over the world realize the huge talent of these guys & learn from them. so i say once again, to anyone on this thread, if Christian musicians are so dedicated to God, & they should be, why can't they play as good as the experts?
