“and to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

when he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe in that day.”
‭‭2 Thessalonians‬ ‭1:7-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭4:15-17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.”
‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:1-4‬ ‭

“the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:”

“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump:

for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:51-53‬

“we shall be changed.”

“But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?

it is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body.

There is a natural body,

and there is a spiritual body.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:35, 44‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the day of the lord is the day the lord returns. It’s going to mean salvstion for all believers but utter destruction for all the rest of the world it’s just a single event but there are two distinct outcomes based on peoples faith

this is going to be fulfilled one day

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;

but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:15-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

That’s going to happen when Jesus returns and it’s will look like what Paul is saying so this order

the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:”

we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”

awe soon as all the believers both the dead and living are raised up and glorified in the spirit the rest of the world will suffer this

the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

( See that’s going to happen this same day )

when he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe in that day.”

it’s just one event but there are two groups that will have two different outcomes eternal salvation or utter destruction

eternally saved or damned with the earth

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night;

in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:9-13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

One day Jesus is going to return just like he left all believers will be raised up in spiritual bodies and immediately after they are all safe the world is going to be destroyed with fire and brimstone

thats the day of the lord also called the day of God , the second coming of Jesus Christ is the day of the lords return it’s one day that will end the world but immediately before l believers will be delivered into eternal salvation

Though many people disagree with me and though all of the interpretations of Revelation 20 have problems and questions like yours, I believe that the "1,000 years" is taking place now with the gathering of God's people all over the world. When Jesus comes, God will burn off the old earth and create the new earth. We will be resurrected to our perfect bodies and rise to meet Jesus and the souls of those believers who have died, who will be reunited with their new, resurrected bodies. The Final Judgment of Matthew 25 will happen, and then we will enter the new heavens and earth, where we will live forever with God (Revelation 21 & 22).

There are 2 verses that tell me you are correct Patrick---Great Question

2 Thess 2:2 Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our assembling to meet him, we beg you, brethren, 2 not to be quickly shaken in mind or excited, either by spirit or by word, or by letter purporting to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 3 Let no one deceive you in any way; for that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness[a] is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.

Clearly states that the Day of the Lord cannot come till after the middle of the Tribulation when the antichrist takes his seat.

Second verse is from Dan 2:44
And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed, nor shall its sovereignty be left to another people

Clearly another verse sometime in middle of the Tribulation the Lord sets up his kingdom and not at the end of the Tribulation

The day of the Lord in every description I have seen is one to be feared it seems to be pretty set on his fiery wrath on the world of unbelieving people who lavish in sin.

Though there are several if not many verses I don't have a great memory that coincide this day with the collecting and gathering of the body first the dead then us who are alive.

But what is described as the day of Lord is absolutely his fierce and righteous judgement on a vile world that lavishes in sin rebukes his name and just absolutely corrupt.

But the world that is described in the bible as the level and state of sin and rebellion the world is at that point as bad as things are now I don't think we are there yet so his coming in the day of Lord has to do with that kind of world his judgement and collecting of the saints.

So really the confusion comes not on the day of the Lord itself but where it fits in your understandintg of the last seven and the one thousand year riegn.

There is of course the whole thing with the rapture and this is usually the one thing that I think messes everything up
The timing of the event often decides the thought process of the day of the Lord sometimes both things being confused as the same thing but I don't think they are at keast not in the traditional thinking.

I think understanding the very end first and then back tracking the events that are described might be an unsual way of doing it but I am sure that the day of the Lord is misunderstood and I don't think we fully grasp this day and how it ties in with everything else at least I know I don't.

However the one thousand year reign is an event that is spoken of having to do with a new heaven and a new earth where Christ reigns over all

Fulfilling Daniels 70th week.

“Clearly states that the Day of the Lord cannot come till after the middle of the Tribulation when the antichrist takes his seat.”

it was written about 1950 years ago just before Nero was about to rose to power , burn rome , blame Christian’s for it , then in 67-70 ad besiege and destroy Jerusalem and it’s temple , slaughter Christian’s and Jews and exile then into the rest of the nations. That all happened in 70 ad millions of Jews and Christian’s were burned alive , thrown to wild beasts in the Roman Arena , hung on crosses and set ablaze as human torches bioled alive all because they would not deny Jesus and swear alleigence to rome

thesselonians was written just before this happened between 55-67ad

to understand the great tribulation Jesus told his apostles about you have to consider whatbhaopened to Jerusalem shameful of years after Jesus left that’s what he was talking about the siege of Jerusalem by rome in ad 67-70

“And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Then let them which are in Judæa flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.

For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.

But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭21:20-24‬ ‭

this happened about thirty years after Jesus said it what Luke is saying is contemporary to this in Matthew teo perspectives with different details

“And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. ( this happened in 67-70 ad it’s about jerusalems destruction by rome and the temples destruction in 70 ad leaving the city desolate without a way to honor thoer covenent without a tabernacle they can’t )

When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, ( the rejection and crucifixion of the messiah ) then let them which be in Judæa flee into the mountains: And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: for then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.”( it’s not the end it’s saying it will get so bad during this time ot will never be as bad again never was before )
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24:1-2, 9-10, 15-16, 19-21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.”
‭‭Daniel‬ ‭9:26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

look into what Nero and Titus did to Jerusalem and to Christian’s and it will be clear

“See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.”

when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.

And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.”

the time of the gentiles will end when Christ returns at th e end of the world which is the other part of what he’s saying

“And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? ( the temples destruction he just told them about )

and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

They ask him two questions so his answer is layered after ll the tribulation he’s talked about look at marks third contemporary account

“But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭13:24-27‬ ‭KJV‬‬

seewhat jesus said was there was going to be perpetual tribulation in the world but against Jerusalem there was going to be a slaughter like never before or never again like the Old Testament said would happen

Is the rapture different from Jesus 2nd coming? I lean heavily that is true. On the day of the rapture, God does nothing that is not on one of His Holy days. The Barley Harvest at Passover and the Sunday Wave Sheaf day was a rapture of those saints who came out of the graves and were seen. All though the scriptures are not explicit that these risen from the dead were taken to heaven when Jesus ascended on Wave Sheaf day as firstfruits (plural) it is highly plausible; think of the thief on the cross, surely he went with Jesus to heaven for firstfruits Wave Sheaf. The Next Harvest is the Wheat Harvest and comes 50 days after Wave Sheaf day. Some future Pentecost/Shavuot the 2nd Rapture will take place. If you do not know when Pentecost is, you might be in the dark, in ignorance in watching and waiting for the Rapture. As to whether it is pre-trib, mid-trib, or post-trib is up for debate.

As far as I can see, the "day of the LORD" is not a good day for heathen gentiles or christians. I desire to be in a place of safety when the "day of the LORD" comes.

So Rapture, Jesus 2nd coming, and start and ending of the 7th millennium all have specific days to occur. Jesus was born on the 1st day of the 7th month (Feast of Trumpets/Shouting/9-11-3 BC) and is a glorious day. I believe that Jesus will return at the end of the 7th millennium (note: not now here at end of 6th millennium) on the 1st day of the 7th month. Satan will be locked away on a future Day of Atonement before the end of this 6th millennium. Satan does not want this to be understood, thus the lie that the Torah Laws are done away with which reveal the LORD's plans. When the rapture occurs, King David will be our King for a millennium on Earth.

Grace911 you covered a lot of territory. Consider what Paul said in Hebrews 9:28

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. These eagerly waiting are the church saints whose sins are covered by grace tnru faith.

Anyone and everyone who enters the seal judgements are unrighteous but out of these will come those who become what I call Tribulation saints and God also has a plan for them also.

Rev 14: “Put in your sickle, and reap, for the hour to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is fully ripe.” 16 So he who sat upon the cloud swung his sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped.

There is no rapture/resurrection at the end of the Tribulation. Only determination here is who enters the 1000 year reign of Christ in the flesh and it will be few. Includes both jews and gentiles

The Day of the Lord does not seem to be limited to one 24-hour time period.

Jesus does not come to Earth and set up His Kingdom at the time of the Rapture. The Rapture happens at the beginning of the 7 years of Tribulation (Jacobs Trouble) on Earth and the Wedding of the Bride (Raptured Church) in Heaven. Following these things, Jesus will come to Earth with His Bride and reign with them 1000 years. All these things are outlined in 1Thess 4 and Rev 19.

Is not the "Day of the Lord" the final day of Earth, when God receives the kingdom from Jesus and then destroys the world in order to replace it?

Is not the "Day of the Lord" the final day of Earth, when God receives the kingdom from Jesus and then destroys the world in order to replace it?
That is usually what it refers to, but "The day of the Lord" is found several times in the Bible and might refer to several different and separate events, or even a broader time period...

Ezekiel 30:3
“For the day is near, even the day of the LORD is near, a cloudy day; it shall be the time of the heathen.”

Amos 5:18
“Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.”

Joel 1:15
“Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.”

The above might all refer to the very end, but then...

1 Thessalonians 5:2 Context
1But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. 2For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 4But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 5Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

This seems to refer to an earlier time. The Second Coming perhaps?

...and then we have these types:
2 Corinthians 1:14
“As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus.”
