I think the Jonah account is generally considered to be the type and the crucifixion/resurrection account to be the antitype. I'm simply curious if there was a specific reason for choosing 3 days and 3 nights for the typology.

The Lord’s body was in the tomb dead, but his soul was alive and well in the heart of the earth. What’s in the heart of the earth? Hell and Abraham’s bosom. Jesus was quite busy those three days and three nights. In the same manner, Jonah’s body was in the tomb of the whale’s belly, but his soul was in hell being tormented for his disobedience. They both were resurrected.

If you notice anytime Jesus declared something it happened
In the ot there are always patterns of it bieng he third day like Jonah or Abraham and Isaac Abraham looking to the sacrifice

Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.

After that

and be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.
Exodus 19:11 KJV


And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled. Also it's in the nt

And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: and both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

But nothing is said there about 3 daytimes and 3 night times being involved, only that 3 calendar days would be.

Pretty cool picture of being restored after three days. The butler was in prison and will be restored.

It’s like your asking what caused light to shine

That’s the same thing as this

“And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men: and they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.”

It is to fulfill the word spoken before

Those all sound like very worthy endeavours! I take short breaks every now and again...

My apologies for my tardy response; I was quite exhausted last night, but kept working on a new panel
I had started yesterday which I just posted for the first time in another thread. My records from last year
show that over the ten months I was doing this, I designed a Scripture panel every other day. I have
certainly slowed down a little from that rate, but also went back to work after being laid off with the
covid closures, and that too contributes to my exhaustion, even though it is only part time. Life if good!

But why did they specify 3 daytimes and 3 night times as it was to apply to the Messiah? Was there something particularly meaningful about that period of time with regard to Him?
