What really happens to the wicked after death? Are they “doomed to hell,” where their “souls” roast in “torment” forever? If hell exists, and the wicked go there, where is it and what is it? And when do they go? What about the resurrection of the dead? And the parable of Lazarus and the rich man?

There are many popular beliefs about the fate of unrepentant sinners. Do you believe in a God who eternally sees the sinners in torment for ever and ever?

What about the following scriptures?

Malachi 4:1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
Mal 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
Mal 4:3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.
Mal 4:4 Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.
Mal 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:
Mal 4:6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

From the Encyclopedia Americana, makes this stunning admission about the almost universal acceptance of the popular belief about hell: “The main features of hell as conceived by Hindu, Persian, Egyptian, Grecian and Christian theologians are essentially the same.

A number of words from the original texts are mistranslated into hell.

Everyone expected to go to Sheol... both the righteous, and the unrighteous.

In the NT, the righteous were said to be in Abraham's bosom, partitioned
with impassable chasm that separated them for the unrighteous dead, as
identified in the parable of Lazarus and the rich man, which you mentioned.

Many do not accept it as a parable, even though it was said that Jesus only taught in parables.

The answers are all there in the Bible. So there is no need to talk about "popular" beliefs. Hell is as real as Heaven, but if you don't believe that then you don't believe God.

BTW Hinduism does not hold to any concept of Hell.

I believe you have been either misinformed or misled.

1. Hell -- eternal Hell -- is called Gehenna and corresponds to the Lake of Fire in outer darkness. This was already prepared for the devil and his angels, but remains unoccupied. All the unsaved dead will also face eternal Hell.

2. Sheol/Hades -- is neither the grave nor the pit. It is in the heart of the earth, and all the souls and spirits of the unsaved dead go there after death to await their final judgment.

3. Tartarus -- is the prison of the angels which kept not their first estate but co-habited with human women. They are kept there in "chains of darkness" and are also awaiting their final judgment.

4. The Bottomless Pit -- is the prison of demons, who will be released in the future to torment the wicked on earth.

Because the word "hell" was used indiscriminately, it was caused much confusion.

Hello, ok here we go, Hell. if its in the bible, then its a place, a place of torment, you go according to what you have done on earth, there's different levels of hell, then on judgement day , they are taken out for sentencing the books are opened, then when God judges that person, then the wicked and the devil and his fallen angels, are all cast into the lake of fire, for ever, NOW when we die absent from the body is present with the father, and on Judgement day we will begiven the what we have done, but we get rewards, crowns, white robes, or gowns, and mansions,

I wouldn't trust the encyclopedia about any statement concerning biblical truth at all because biblical definitions and statements are very different from biblical ones.

Here's my understanding of the Bible's teachings about hell.

1. When unbelievers die, their souls are judged and sent sent to hell, a place without all the things and people they depended on as their idols during their lives.
2. When Jesus will return, they will be resurrected with their souls and bodies reunited. Then, the public final judgment will take place (Matthew 25).
3. Then, they will be sent back to hell for eternity.

Two questions:

1) Assuming that Hell does exist, that is a place of burning and torment forever and ever for all eternity, does that mean we humans are born with an immortal soul?

2) When are those that have done evil resurrected to damnation?

John 5:25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;
27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.
28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

I don’t think God ‘sends’ anyone to 'hell'. Look at it this way. Suppose I built a resort for the homeless, and all I asked was that on their way in they acknowledge and thank me for doing so. “Hey man, I really appreciate you doing this” and you’re in the door. Tell me to kiss off, and you can sit outside on the curb. Am I really responsible for those who choose to sit on the curb?

Our universe is made up at the subatomic level with clusters of like charged particles, which science tells us should naturally repel each other. They call the unknown factor that keeps it all from exploding "the strong force". There are several theories as to the source of this ‘strong force’, including God’s claim that He holds it all together (Col 1:17). God also claims He spoke it all into being out of nothingness - while science says out of nothingness, kaboom there it is.

Then there’s dark matter/energy. Scientific estimates vary, but they hover around the theory that 90% of what makes up the universe, we can’t see, except for how it affects the things we can see. God says there is another realm that we can’t see, other than how it affects what we can see. And He wants His 10% back.

God further says that someday He will speak this universe out of existence. Paul describes that moment, saying the elements will melt with fervent heat (2 Peter 3:7, 10, 12). Think of what results when the atom is split – intense heat and fire. Think of what results when the Strong Force releases its hold, and a universe of atoms suddenly comes apart. The interesting thing is, even tho it’s talked about often in the Bible, we don’t actually see the lake of fire appear until this present earth and heavens are de-created.

Could it be the de-creation of our universe that creates the lake of fire?

Could it be, for those who loved this world more than Him, God lets them have it, in its natural state apart from Him?

You can choose God or you can choose the world. Choose the world and you will have it.

Hell is a place prepared by The Eternal God. It is a real place, and it is a supernatural place, also. Human reasoning can't comprehend this place. The AUTHORITY of the existence of hell is with the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus said it is a real place. It is an eternal place. The scriptural references used in the above must be seen in context to how they are used. The earth can suffer fire, and many people's bodies can have been burned beyond recognition. YET The spirit of man is eternal. And when the spirit of man has left his body, IT goes to GOD, who gave it, then the judgment.

Hebrews 9:27
And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,

In addition, the teaching of "Annihilationism" is unbiblical. Most who hold to this take the scriptures a verse here and there out of context to suggest there is no eternal torment. They like to play word games. It would be nice if they were right because you would die, and that would be it. As if that is something to be fearful of.

The sin of Adam and Eve was DEFINITELY forgiven, and they were UNDOUBTLEDLY saved.
They both truthfully confessed their sins in a sincere plea for mercy, God approved of their confession and immediately provided skins aka "covered them with the blood".

The skins that the Lord made for Adam and Eve were a temporary covering for sins, but also shows the beginning that animal sacrifices provided throughout the OT till Yeshua went to the cross.

Using the derogatory term "roasting" means that you do not respect the justice of God. As a matter of fact there is no one presently in the Lake of Fire.
