Melchizedek is a title not a name. Common misconception.
So why is it talking about him as a person making him comparable to Christ ?
“And
Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth
bread and wine: and
he was the priest of the most high God. ( the title is the priest of God most high , the name is melchezidek )
And
he blessed him, ( person to person ) and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: and blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And
he gave him tithes of all.”
Genesis 14:18-20 KJV
Hebrews is making a point about melchezidek based on this interaction
“For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.
Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.”
Hebrews 7:1-4 KJV
Melchezidek is the name of the original priest of God before the law was given and Aaron was called and the levites ordained. The
title is preist ,
the name of the priest is melchezidek
He’s actually the only man in the Bible compared to Jesus this way in that he had neither mother or father nor geneology there’s no record of his birth his creation his death or life other than the one reference where he appeared to Abraham in accordance with the promise of Isaac and the appearing of the flesh and blood of Jesus that would later become the communion of the New Testament bread and wine
i don’t think there’s any reason not to accept melchezidek as a name it seems really clear and he’s definately not shem Noah is shems father Noah’s wife his mother but melchezidek is referenced here as a great
man made as a figure of jesus
“
without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but
made like unto the Son of God; ( this tells us it’s not jesus but he is made like jesus as a figure in the ot )
abideth a priest continually.
Now
consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.”
Hebrews 7:3-4 KJV
there no record of melchezideks birth , death , life on earth , appearing in heaven ect anywhere in the ot but it’s said of Christ even his service as high priest of God bit for his interaction with Abraham in chapter 14 of genesis until it speaks of Christ who would be “ priest forever in the order of melchezidek “ and high priest of that same order of melchezidek
before the law
Melchezidek isn’t a title brother priest of god is his title later it benefits us in our understandong of Christ in the heavenly temple and not on earth in a temple made for levites services but into heaven made for the preisthood of melchezideks service where Christ atoned for our sins before God levites of
Aaron’s order don’t serve in heaven those of
melchezideks order do
“Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of
the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;”
Hebrews 3:1 KJV
See here what happened
“So also
Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but
he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, To day have I begotten thee. As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever After the order of Melchisedec. ( a priest after the order of melchezidek not Aaron )
Who
in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; though
he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; and
being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.”
Hebrews 5:5-10 KJV
just as there was a man named aaron given of the law made higher priest before that law came for transgression , there was an ancient man named melchezidek who was
the priest of God most high who we here very very little about until the book of Hebrews teaches us about Jesus using his mysterious figure
“whither
the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.”
Hebrews 6:20 KJV
“If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law. For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood. And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest, who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life. For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever After the order of Melchisedec. For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof. For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God. By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.”
Hebrews 7:11-12, 14-19, 22, 25-27 KJV
the first seven chapters really are dedicated to exalting Jesus and explaining his preisthood of the eternal covenant between God and mankind
Not this summary half way through the letter
“Now
of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.”
Hebrews 8:1-2 KJV
levites can’t serve there , Jesus creates those preists of melchezideks order
“and from
Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the
first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto
him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, and
hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”
Revelation 1:5-6 KJV
Melchezidek is a priest of Jesus Christ the lord who became mankind’s high priest because there was none worthy so he became the intercessor and not of the leviticle order of Moses law but of what existed before the law from everlasting theres a lot that we can just read an learn about melchezidek and his ordination of preists in the book of Hebrews t he ugh becoming Christian’s we’ve become a part of that order under God the order of faith
