Led by the Spirit

God is not far off and remote.

Some seem to think that we have only the Bible to guide us. I love God's word and I encourage everyone to study it diligently. However, there is the moment by moment leading of the Holy Spirit also. If we are to be effective in God's Kingdom, we need that guidance as well as the Word.

An example. I ride a bicycle a few times a week. I have to stop for a rest as I'm not that fit. I stopped at a bench where another man was resting also. We got talking and I told him that I was a Christian. He responded that he was also. My wife and I met him for lunch yesterday. It was amazing. He knew many of the people that I knew from the late 1970's. He was saved at the church where I was going. Someone I knew had invited him to the church. He knew the people I shared a house with.

We were able to have good fellowship, mostly because he is really born again. It helps a lot that we have so much in common. I don't know why God brought us together. Perhaps it is just so we can pray for him. He's 68, does not look it, and is seeking a wife. We have prayed that he meet the right woman who will be a blessing and one that he can be a blessing to also.

This kind of "God-incidence" is a normal part of life for us. Some deny that God moves in this way. I can assure you that He does. God is not far off and remote. He is living, loving, caring and leading continually. If we seek Him, He will lead us.

Knowledge of the Bible leads to God prompting our spirit by bringing verses to our minds.

It also contextualises situations so we know what God's will is in certain circumstances.

Going by the bible IS being led by the Spirit. Of course for the regenerated this is where the Holy Spirit really works

Do you believe that the Holy Spirit speaks to believers outside of Scripture?

If not, how do you explain the thousands of testimonies of Christians who say otherwise?

Another thought, experience, that is of the Holy Spirit, is that when these things occur, they become as something quite natural, that is being lead to someone who is lead by the Spirit, a gift of knowledge, a healing, etc. They do not seem miraculous when they occur, but afterwards we realize God has worked either through us or just plain for us. He is always caring for us, every instant, amen. Thank you for this beautiful sharing.

He does speak to individuals outside of scripture. That is how individual will is ascertained.. but it is through His Word.. it is through His scripture. A prompting that is related to His Word. God will not contradict His Word either.

There's a common misconception that those of us who believe in the authority of God's word aren't led by the Holy Spirit. This is a mischaracterization, usually by Charismatics. Scriptures teaches us how to walk in the Spirit and in truth; and how to conduct ourselves while following the Holy Spirit. It provides a framework.

Charismatics falsely accuse us of putting God in a box, or worshipping a book. They do this because they think being led by Spirit is a free for all where anything goes. This simply isn't true. God's word supplies us with sound doctrine; it teaches us how to correctly understand the Holy Spirit.

"Let all things be done decently and in order." 1 Corinthians 14:40

"But the fruit of the Spirit is . . . self-control." Galatians 5:22-23

So... you don't believe that God speaks unless it is through His word.

Dude, you're missing out. I'd tell you a few stories that happened just today but you wouldn't believe them. All I will say is that God definitely speaks "outside His written word".

just today, a guy came up to me, i don't know him, & said, 'hi, good to see you, you're doing a good job". (i was trimming bushes & hedges on a big job). so i was making believe i knew him because i know, not all the time, you recognize someone soon. so i immediately started talking about Jesus to him, recited a few verses, & i believe it was the Holy Spirit moving me that way! in addition to that, around here lately, strange events have been occurring but on the good side.

How about this:
"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." There, Romans 8:14, King James for the i dotters and t crossers. It does not say as many as are led by a book.
