Jesus the lord in the gospel during his last meal on earth

“And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: for I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭22:14-16, 19-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the apostle Paul one of his servants and witnesses

For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:23-30, 32‬ ‭

should we consider what the Bible established things to be ? Or should we reject it and reason and explain why it’s not as the Bible makes it plain ?

The pattern

“For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house: Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: and ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. And they shall take off the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.

And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD's passover.

For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.

And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.

For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭12:3, 5-8, 10-15, 23‬ ‭

The reality

“and looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!”
‭‭John‬ ‭1:36‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
‭‭John‬ ‭1:29‬ ‭

“Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.”
‭‭John‬ ‭6:53-56, 58‬ ‭KJ

“And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: for I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭22:15-16, 19-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness;

but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭5:7-8‬ ‭

Sure, we should always consider what the Bible establishes. Don't you think so?

"That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life— the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us— that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things we write to you that your joy may be full."

Let's not make the mistake of the religiously-minded folks who make the liturgical practice more important than the eternal reality. Our communion with Christ is the reason we eat the bread and drink the wine.

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:23-30, 32‬ ‭

if we consider what Paul’s saying doesn’t he make it rather important as Jesus also did ? Should we let what Paul’s saying sink in ?

this seems really relevant and important

“he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. “

This which involves the act seems really relevant and important to Paul as he’s written to the church

“as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.”

would I then argue just from this “ let’s not become religious in thinking Paul communion with jesus is the reason we take communion

awhile it’s an agreeable statement it really doesn’t touch on what Paul not what Jesus had said regarding partaking of communion

i can say “ I already commune with Jesus daily my own way “

Or I can hear what he said and accept and believe and act upon it by faith.

to make the acting part “ religion “ sort of works against faith which will always hear and obey god believing what he said like “ get baptized for remission of sins and receive the Holy Ghost “

or
“Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. ‭‭John‬ ‭6:53-56‬ ‭KJV‬‬

why shouldn’t we simply let what he’s saying be what we begin to accept and believe and act upon regarding things that are created by his own doctrine ?

Is actually doing what Jesus said to do in remembrance of his sacrifice ? Or actually doing what he said to do for repentance and remission of sins ? Is it “religion “ to just hear and believe what he taught and act upon it like he taught ?

Isn’t communion something Jesus taught his disciples to actually do ? And didn’t he and his apostles teach a lot about its relevance ?

obeying jesus and the things he established by faith like communion arent religion brother it’s faith

“For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”
‭‭James‬ ‭2:26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

i can hear these things but if I don’t believe they are true and relevant why would I act on that faith ?

I would have answered any questions you had.

Communion is one of those pesky religious words that the church has coopted for itself.

Many lines for communion in the Sunday boxes are merely forms of godliness without the power that accompanies the practice. The word itself has been reduced to a practice.

Ask a Christian “Tell me about communion” they would likely say “it’s when we eat bread and drink wine/grape juice” without any understanding of the meaning.

Paul plainly defined the spiritual reality of the cup and bread (by the way: his revelations on these matters are the “greater things” Jesus promised: that we would be given greater things then what He taught while on the earth… but that’s another topic.)

Paul wrote this:
“The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?”

So, clearly, we’re talking about the cup and the bread. The very next thing he wrote was this:

“For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.”

The one body IS Christ. The one bread IS Christ. This is our communion: that we are in and of Christ: the many-membered body with Him as our Head.

And let me just add a little more salt: if it is true that we are in one body, who is Christ, then how does the Lord consider our propensity for divisions? How does He look upon our “Baptists” and “Pentecostal” and “Roman” and “Lutheran” and “Presbyterian” and “Mennonite” etc etc etc divisions? Might He consider our manner of dividing from one another “unworthy” when it comes to eating the bread and drinking the wine? If you see it, then there is no wonder why, in this day and age, the primary condition of the church is one of powerlessness and corruption.

“For we being many are one bread, and one body…” This is communion: that those who are in Christ are of Christ. If we willingly walk in a manner of division from the one body then we eat and drink in an unworthy manner (merely consuming the cracker and the Welch’s won’t matter.) The end result thereof is powerlessness, corruption, and some going to the grave prematurely.

Too many churches and denominations do not want to do exactly what the Bible says. But you cannot try and fix their problems.

The Bible isn't always plain and a cursory reading doesn't always make its meaning known; at least not the depth of its meaning. Often what once seemed very plain is replaced as we receive revelation of it's meaning from God.
One example of this is that the scripture says as we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will give us the desires of our hearts. Many assume, then, that God will provide for them the things they currently desire. And many are disappointed when much of what they desire is left unfulfilled.
Hopefully, they will come to understand that the meaning of the verse is that God will actually place in their hearts good and holy desires.

yeah brother what I’m saying is that’s all probably true , sounds about right

your point is Christs body is the bread we take for communion right ? I’m not sure how that’s any different from the original quotes in the op Your saying the same things in the op but what’s the point you’re getting at ?

why is communion even a thing Christian’s know about ?

“And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭22:19-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Right so we’ve began here we’ve heard about the body and blood and Jesus is who I stayed this practice for his disciples so far we can’t possibly disagree right ?

jesus creates this practice before his death and tells them why he the lord had commanded them to do this it seems really simple thus far to me anyways already we understand the bread and drink represent this body and blood and he said to do this practice in remembrance of him , he also calls it Passover in another verse quoted beforehand

so far I’m not really seeing an issue or really anything mysterious about this practice we know who said to do it and why he said to do it. I don’t think so far it really needs any amazing explainations right ?

then we go on to Paul and what he’s saying

“For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, ( god has given Paul this instruction fornthe church )

That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

(Paul is simply passing on the same teaching Jesus began and he says even more clearly )

For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:23-26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Still it doesn’t seem mysterious or needing any explaination right ? We already have learned a lot about why we take communion

What we find if we search through the Bible isntheres never anything to ever say “ communion is different now it doesn’t mean what it meant before “ or baptism is different now it changed “

a what your saying there really is kind of hard for me to even follow but wouldn’t you say the scriptures have made it really clear already just those two short sections ?

If I’m asked why Christian’s partake of communion I can simply say what’s there right ? I can say Jesus before he sacrificed his flesh formoir sins took bread and broke it with his disciples then he passed it around and they all partook of the bread and he said to them. Do this in remembrance of me

it’s the same principle of Passover they are Passover as a reminder of what God did to deliver them from Egypt

a there’s really never any reason for us to add to or take from what’s established in the gospel. What your saying there sounds pretty legit but I tewally have a hard time following what it is your saying there and finding anything that’s not in the basic statements quoted repeatedly in the scriptures

the point of this post was just to have people think about communion as the Bible sets ot forth nd co wider ehat the Bible says it means to those who partake of it to show it’s not a “ ritual “ because this is where it comes from

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

when Jesus creates things like communion they will always remain there

ayes of course the bread represents his body not because your explaining anything but becaus e that’s what the lord said he himself created communion and his disciples taking communion

I’m not trying to fix anyone’s problem lol I’m just discussing what the Bible says about communion so maybe a believer will consider it and do a study and pray about it that’s kind of what I’ve assumed a biblical discussion forum is about

but m not on a fixing mission or anything I need some fixin tho if you know anyone

Brother the old testement is a hidden by a veil .the new testement is revealed it needs to be heard and believed not figured out

“Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: and not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: but their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament;

which vail is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, ( he’s not hidden anymore he’s Jesus ) are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭3:12-16, 18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The New Testament isn’t a mystery we have received the holy spirit in the ot they didn’t they had no sight we do

“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭2:12‬ ‭

The Old Testament and New Testament work together to make the Bible simple and plain ne is hidden and shown o my in carnal and earthly patterns the other is gods reality the New Testament isn’t about figuring out mysteries it’s about hearing and believing the gospel he sent out to every person

How does any Christian know what communion means ? They have either read it or heard what’s in the gospel that creates communion they are a believer and heard god say this and they didn’t reject what he’s saying they believed it instead

Do you see how this isn’t something we would need to figure out but it’s just what it is some hesr it and say “ that’s silly eating bread and drinking doesn’t mean anything “ others hear it and say “ wow my lord said to do this in remembrance of what he’s done for us i definately want to be a part of that “

There is nothing to figure out but there’s something simple and plain to either grab hold of and believe or reject

How does any Christian know what communion means ? They have either read it or heard what’s in the gospel that creates communion they are a believer and heard god say this and they didn’t reject what he’s saying they believed it instead

Do you see how this isn’t something we would need to figure out but it’s just what it is some hesr it and say “ that’s silly eating bread and drinking doesn’t mean anything “ others hear it and say “ wow my lord said to do this in remembrance of what he’s done for us i definately want to be a part of that “

There is nothing to figure out but there’s something simple and plain to either grab hold of and believe or reject
My purpose isn't to derail the thread; merely to enhance upon it. If the NT were as plain as you suggest, why are there so many different denominations and practices?

Because brother no one agrees with the doctrine Jesus sent out thisnis salvstion from his own mouth

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:15-16, 19-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The reason so many argue and have different beliefs is because some hear this

“Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.”
‭‭John‬ ‭18:37‬ ‭

And then others refuse to hear it so they do this and create all those other ideas contrary to what he said in the gospel the word of truth

Paul warned of this 1900 years ago and it’s happened long long long ago We are seeing the result of this parting from the truth Jesus spoke

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”
‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭4:3-4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Many people have been turned to fables because they go to teachers that are teaching that Jesus ways and words aren’t the truth they aren’t for you listen instead to my doctrine and people accept it it’s no different from Eden God says the truth “ don’t eat the fruit you’ll die “ then the other guy says a contrary truth about the same thing “ you will not die it will make you like gods and wise “

awe are free to accept what God said , or what the other people are saying if you notice anytime a discussion turns to what’s in the gospel itself what Jesus taught his disciples to actually do it’s at that point you find contention saying “no no your saved by grace that’s a work there’s nothing to do it’s already done the works of the cross I’m already saved “

its always going to be the same on earth god speaks a truth about life and Satan comes along speaking the opposite or any other contrary thing to blind people to the truth god has revealed in the everlasting gospel

theres so many denominations because people have created so many varying doctrines brother. The only way to agree is to all be looking at the same doctrine like Jesus and his apostles repeatedly taught .

“But ye have not so learned Christ; if so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: that ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:20-24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We we’re warned by the apostes and Jesus bout this

“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭2:1-2‬ ‭

There’s actually one doctrine for all the world to be saved it’s the doctrine Jesus taught and then sent out to everyone to be saved is my point denominations are a result of false teachings about just minor details or even major details because many will not let what Jesus our lord said , by the truth

This is the lord and his doctrine always

“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭28:18-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

some Will hear and believe that and learn from thier lord as if he is thier ultimate authority like he said there and learn also from his apostles who further reveal things he said that aren’t clear or are mysterious like his parables …..

the Bible has a really strict wired way that makes it simple but we have to begin and end with Jesus and the gospel to find that revelation

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8:12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Paul’s writings come in like this opening up the understsnding and making it plain

Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; and walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:1-10‬ ‭

a there’s just one doctrine in the nt it’s just that there have been alotnof false teachers in the church since Paul and peters warnings this created a seperation of the church into denominations it’s meant to be one and consists of every true believer in creation for all time

I agree with your conclusion that there is to be one church made up of all believers. I even believe that it is in part due to false teachers. But I am corrected often on misunderstandings of scripture. It's certainly not as plain to me as you suggest. Perhaps it's just me.

yeah brother what I’m saying is that’s all probably true , sounds about right

your point is Christs body is the bread we take for communion right ?

Sorry brother. My post wasn’t a response to you specifically as much as it was a deepening of the topic.

Sorry brother. My post wasn’t a response to you specifically as much as it was a deepening of the topic.
Yes i appreciate what you wrote and like I was saying it’s all very agreeable . I get it brother everything you said is agreeable , what I’m saying is when I read what your saying is what Paul says about and teaches about communion in various places in the Bible

just in your own words ……I’m sorry brother the lack of being able to express “ tone “ in what we are saying sometimes I think comes off as of someone’s aggravated or something I wish I could word things better your always appreciated as I’ve said many times before I think I’ve read most of your posts that I’ve seen in my notifications since we met find it interesting and often what you are saying in a deep way in your words , is the same thing in scripture which is very enjoyable to read

you have never needed apologize in any way because you’ve never offended me in anyway since we met here
