This actually comes before...Ephesians 2:8-9.
Yes, we are saved by grace, not works, lest anybody should boast. But, what works is this referring to? Therein is the confusion for many. They teach that any and all works don't save, but that's not the meaning of the Scripture.

Why do you keep calling humility a "work"? It is no such thing. Christ did not call it a work. So when you begin with false premises you end up with false conclusions.
Jesus said that YOU must humble yourself as a little child. This is a call to action for the believer. Yes, doing something. This is only one of many instances when Jesus said that there is something required for someone to be saved.

It actually is. Not understanding this is what always leads to some level of a works based salvation. One would expect a response to a work of God. The work of God is what produces salvation. Responses to those works is evidence that salvation has truly been wrought.

07-07-07 ------you are taking a piece of scripture out of its CONTEXT and trying to make it say something that it isn't saying ------this is called Wrongly ---Dividing the Word Of God ----and is very Dangerous -----as Salvation is a Free Graced Gift ----and therefore cannot have works attached to it to come to pass -----

This is the whole Scripture in CONTEXT -----

Matthew 18
Rank in the Kingdom
18 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”

2 He called a little child and set him before them,

3 and said, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, unless you repent [that is, change your inner self—your old way of thinking, live changed lives] and become like children [trusting, humble, and forgiving], you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

4 Therefore, whoever [a]humbles himself like this child is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

5 Whoever receives and welcomes one [b]child like this in My name receives Me;

6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble and sin [by leading him away from My teaching], it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone [as large as one turned by a donkey] hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.

I say
So----We see that the Disciples ask a Question of Jesus -----Who is the Greatest in the Kingdom of heaven -------so this piece of Scripture is NOT talking Salvation ------it is about Rank ------for those already IN the Kingdom ------

Jesus tells them that the greatest in the Kingdom is the person who is humble -----and He uses Children as an example ---as Children are humble as they rely on their parents and obey their parents -----and understanding this word Humility here is important -----

This word Humble Here in this scripture in Greek means ---so you can see that it says ---the Believer ---which means they are already saved ----and the Greatest in the Kingdom are the ones who have been fully dependant on God ----

Not Talking Salvation by Works but Rank within the Kingdom ---those who are already saved and in the Kingdom ---

Cognate: 5013 tapeinóō

With the believer ("show humility, true lowliness") happens by being fully dependent on the Lord – dismissing reliance upon self (self-government) and emptying carnal ego. This exalts the Lord as our all-in-all and prompts the gift of His fullness in us

You always need to read the whole part of the Scripture ----if you take the TEXT out of CONTEXT ----your Left with a CON -----and in danger of spreading False Doctrine which is bad for the SOUL -----

To humble oneself is to adopt a MENTAL ATTITUDE, just like pride is a mental attitude. There is no need to confuse anyone.

The real confusion is teaching that there is nothing to do to be saved. Untrue. If we don't follow Jesus' teachings from the heart, we will not be saved. It's time for us to get busy and work out our Salvation.

Philippians 2
[12] Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

It is impossible to do as you suggest until one has been converted and given a new heart.

Jesus said that YOU must humble yourself as a little child. This is a call to action for the believer. Yes, doing something. This is only one of many instances when Jesus said that there is something required for someone to be saved.
(Matthew 18:3-5) "And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. {4} Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. {5} And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me."

Read it carefully... Jesus did NOT say that one must humble themselves to enter the kingdom of heaven but that one who does humble themselves as a little child will be called Great in the kingdom of heaven.. It is about ones status in the kingdom of heaven not a prerequisite to earn ones place in the Kingdom of Heaven..

Indeed upon the day of the resurrection when God converts us into the perfect beings we shall be forever and ever,, He will convert us into becoming as little children.. So that is something God will do to us/ for us..

No works equals no works

No works in any case would NEVER mean some works..

Jesus said that except YOU become like a little child, not the Father making you a little child.
the Lord Jesus said those words to a buncha guys who may have been having a conversation that might have gone something like this:

--I'm the greatest!
--nuh uh, me!
--you're both wrong, I am!
--I'M TELLING MOM

:sneaky:

i mean, i am old, but i wasn't there at the time. lol

i think Christ was telling them (and us, yes) they had to be rid of selfish ambition, and pride, and covetousness.
but God doesn't find what pleases Him in a lost sinner. He has to create it.

@Magenta... beautiful panels! look how many times God says "I will". if you go to the Old Testament passages you see it again and again.

Yes! As a Christian, you already have a humble heart and all the good works that Jesus, when He died for you, created for you to have. What a gracious God we serve!

That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

- Ephesians 2:7-10 (KJV)
you are the sweetest! i feel encouraged! :)

Here again ---you are taking the Text out of Context ----and you are left with a CON

Working out your own Salvation does not mean that you need to do works to be Saved ------what this scripture is talking about ----is after you are saved you are holy in Spirit and Heaven Bound -----your Saved by having Faith in Jesus Christ and what He accomplished on the Cross ----

No person can manufacture --or work for the Right Faith to be saved --some referr to it as Saving Faith ---it is given by God -freely -----by the hearing God's Word -------God has to open your heart and mind to get this Faith ------

So What is Saving Faith

Read all here ---
https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/essay/doctrine-saving-faith/#:~:text=Definition,Jesus%20Christ%20alone%20for%20salvation.

DEFINITION
Saving faith is faith that not only knows and comprehends the facts about the gospel of Jesus Christ but also trusts in the person and work of Jesus Christ alone for salvation.

saving faith is a firm conviction and trust in the person and work of Christ.

I say ---
Now that YOUR SAVED BY SAVING FAITH -----your Old Nature still has a Hold on you ----

Your Saved in your Spirit Man and Holy ready for Heaven ----------but your mind needs to be Renewed -----so you need to work on Sanctifying your MIND to be the same as your Spirit ------

That is your Job after your Saved -------So it is up to You to Work out Your Salvation to Sanctify your Mind --

What does it mean to walk out your salvation?

The Greek word translated, “work out” means to work in order to bring something to completion or fulfillment. Paul was telling them to strive to bring their salvation to its complete fulfillment in their lives.

Your Saved and now you need to bring it to completeness by changing the way YOU THINK

Sanctified by Process of renewing your mind --------

This Scripture is talking to already Saved people -------Sanctification of your Mind is a process ----it comes as you Mature in your Walk with Christ ----

Romans 12:2

Amplified Bible

2 And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be [a]transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].

You see Your STANCE is ------your Spirit is Holy and your in Christ ------your heaven bound

Your STATE Is ------your working your Mind to be Holy Like your Spirit ------Sanctifying the Mind

Ponder this -----

Your State won't change your Stance ------if you don't work on your Sanctifying your Mind ---you will still go to heaven ---

But -----Your Stance will change your State -------if you take your STANCE in Christ seriously and obey the Word then your Mind set will be on the things of God --and doing His Will --not this World and doing its Will --and you will be fully Sanctified -------

Sanctification is an on going process for our lifetime -------

Working out your own Salvation ------Saved person working to be Christ like in mindset

From Google
People also ask

Is sanctification a lifelong process?

Sanctification is on ongoing process.

Whereas justification is once and for all, sanctification is a continuous process whereby we grow in holiness.

You guys are trying hard to deflect this issue to salvage the "No works" doctrine. Truth is, Jesus is saying, except you do something, you will not enter into the kingdom of God. Humble yourselves like a child and be converted, then you will enter into the kingdom of God. Fail to humble yourselves like a little child, then you will not enter in. Plain and simple. There's no need to play semantics.

I agree. The born again experience is a true miracle, one that gives a new heart and a new spirit. However, God does not force us to humble ourselves like a little child; that work rests solely on the believer.

Both sides are kind of confusing! How about both sides post about their own accounts of how they got saved? How did any of you become saved? What was it that convinced you that you are saved?

Do you believe the kingdom of God is present in the world today or yet to come?

How can we just jump past this "But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, "

The disciples were talking about who will be first but what Christ said was to conduct themselves as children of God and that like Jesus they should be able to call upon God as Abba Father. They forgot a basic requirement for entering the Kingdom. Neither works nor great desire to enter the Kingdome will allow entrance. Its a gift of God received by those who learn to say to God Abba Father. Showing they place their trust fully in their heavenly Father. The word strepho there repent translated be converted. Now I read this as works to be saved. I have been already. Now like a Army Vet said who died for 10min when he first saw His face said there was so much mercy and love. It kept flowing in to him neve stopping always new forever. And Christ asked why would you want to go back? The man thought my family and other things which are wonderful but then it hit him. To show to give this away. Christ said yes that's it.

That is works yet never to earn anything. Its in you and you want to you have to give it away. Its walking down the street and picking up some trash. Just that effect someone else that walks that way and them seeing that trash upset them or what ever. That tiny thing effected someone else. Like a cashier not saved sees this girl with such a great smile. Thinks she must be a Christian and how then how much we wanted that. That weekend that cashier because of just that one tiny smile got saved. Ripple effects. That young girl that smiled? Has no clue what so ever that cashier got saved. What a great reward.

I personally would have just talked about "rich in mercy for his great love wherewith He loved us". Understand that grasp that first. Its putting Him first in everything then the rest is cake.. and duh who does not like cake
