As I Count All My Blessings

Trials and troubles are constant in my life.
As God portioned distresses, He doubled my strife.
But as I consider all that God has brought me through,
And I count my blessings, I count you, too.

One way that God loves me is in His still quiet voice.
As He ministers to me my heart can but rejoice.
Another way He loves me is in what others do.
So as I count all my blessings, I count you, too.

I am blessed to be supported on solid foundation;
That, though compassed about by much tribulation,
God brings to me many who help my faith to renew.
So as I count all my blessings, I count you, too.

I thank God for the laughter, the joy, and the cheer.
I thank God also for the sullen and the austere.
God has been my help at all times, this time He chose you
To be one of the blessings that I'm counting, too.

Ne'er you worry, and ne'er you fret,
Leave that to the furry that go to the vet.
In the image of God did He make you,
And nothing will change that, not even the flu.

People may holler and people may toot.
They can't steal your joy, not even one fruit.
Joy you will find, and perhaps you will see,
You've given as much as you've gotten for free.

At the end of each blessing there is the word 'sing,'
And surely this is no very small thing.
Creation began with all things in song,
And since has been kept in time all along.

And if you should think that you've gone out of step,
We'll always be here to offer more pep.
Unless, of course, you're here for the boos.
If that is the case, then you've nothing to lose...

You've outdone yourself.
No doubt about that.
You mustered a poem.
You did it quite stat.
And you rhymed each couplet
And stood out from the crowd
In a way that would make
Theodor Geisel quite proud.
So keep up the good work
And don't cook your goose,
And you might just become
The next Dr. Seuss.
