Merry Christmas to all on CC! please post your favorite Christmas dessert whether it's one your parents made or your own invention. My favorite is my mom"s which was called Botiqua. (not sure of the spelling). It was a bread type dessert in cake form with vanilla, fudge, cherries and green & red colored frosting.

Homemade boiled custard!

Grandma used to make it occasionally. Now I make it and have a gallon jug sitting in the fridge constantly.

Moral of the story: never learn how to cook something you love to eat. It will be far too easy to make it anytime you want and you will get fat. And I am.

Traditional Finnish star-shaped Christmas tarts.

I've eaten a lot of these. Haven't really ever made any of them all by myself, although it shouldn't be difficult if you use ready-made puff pastry sheets. The most common filling is prune jam, although there are many other options that some like to use. Some like to warm them up before eating. I like them best in room temperature with some whipped cream.

This most common shape has been described as a star or a a pinwheel (someone was horrified thinking it represents a swastika.) There's also a half moon shaped version which is more convenient as all of the filling is on the inside.

This looks like a pretty good recipe (the first one I found in English) https://mydearkitcheninhelsinki.com...rttu-finnish-pinwheel-shaped-christmas-tarts/

I happened on a recipe recently and wrote it down for a future project. I'm not sure if its the same thing but the shape of them, and the filling, attracted me to it.

Made homemade cherry cordials last night for the first time. Ignore the mess...it was a trial run. 20231216_153919.jpg

Trial runs can be delicious.

What did you decide to change next time you do it?
Make the inside coating a little thinner and get jumbo cherries, these felt tiny.
