How did the slaves come to believe in Jesus, become Christians?

The pain and suffering (physical/mental) seems to be why slaves in the US turned to the Bible, Scripture....

well yea cant you ever imagine life as a slave?

Its painful and suffering to be owned and always told what to do and never have any say in your life. To be poor and always under somebodys thumb. To be judged on what you look like.

Does Jesus say his burden is easy and his yoke is light. And the lilies of the field, they dont toil or spin but God thinks they are beautiful.

Also evangelists brought the Gospel to them as well as the general population. Sadly, in recent times a lot of blacks have turned to Islam or Communism or Anarchism. And the Black Muslims (a sect) teach that blacks should kill all whites.
