I just found an audio Q&A with a former RC priest that might be interesting to you. I am still working and listened to this already, but have trouble dividing my focus on here this evening. So excuse me for not being able to answer the rest of yours Questions right now. I think I covered most in the other posts. The Bible has the answers and knowing that even one sin has disqualified us from eternal life brings us to the fact of why Jesus was crucified.

As a reformed catholic, the pope's declaration was startling to me. I thought the Catholic church would hold firm on this issue, but they have caved in like several denominations due to intense pressure from secular culture--Babylon is alive and well in our world.

My wife and I attended an ELCA Lutheran church a number of years ago, and the leadership decided to allow openly gay couples to not only attend church but also get married in the church. Gay members could also become pastors. It was an awful upheaval, and we went through a year of intense debate. Once our congregation accepted the edict, half the members left including the two of us.

The Bible makes it very clear that homosexuality is a sin. The pope and any other Christian church cannot change scriptural truth. But, like you noted, the Catholic church believes it has the authority to make their own rules. And, this change shows how much trouble they are in with declining membership in "progressive" nations that embrace and even encourage gay relationships.

I know we need to be forgiving and loving as Christians. However, we need to hold firm against the forces of evil gaining ground in this world as well. I have gay family members who I love, but they also know where I stand. I have not seen one of their relationships work out, and look at what our openly gay society is yielding--an erosion of core values and a weakening of all organizations who "embrace" this wave of liberalism.

It will be fight in the Catholic community, and it is stunning that there is open rebellion against the pope by church leadership at the cardinal and bishop level on this matter.

My wife and I are back attending mass occasionally. There is certainly indifference to authority and ridiculous rituals among parishioners, and the church has backed off on enforcing the "rules". Many priests are faithful servants, who receive our attention and respect.

From what I can tell, most are there to worship and praise our God, listen to scripture, recite core doctrines of the Church, and experience communion with Christ and our fellow brethren.

Here we go down this painful road once again, and I am in shock that the Catholic Church has swayed from their firm position on this matter. This is another example of how powerful the liberal secular forces and voices are in our world today.

We need to hold the line for conservative values more than ever today. I've been down this path with the ELCA Lutheran branch, and it was heartbreaking to be mild on what it did to our congregation--awful division and some heated discussions that yielded only strife and sadness.
