I ride a bike often. Its a proven healthy lifestyle, and I love it.

I ride 3 times a week. It's hard work, but I'm getting fitter. I started about 3 years ago. I won't say that I love it but I do need it.

One of the 'road blocks' people face for riding bikes is the bike breaking. With youtube we can all look up things now on bike repair and I hope that more people use this outlet now because its easier than ever to repair your bike.

One alternative is to just buy a cheapo bike every year and it maybe possible to use parts off an old bike to help with repairs.

I kinda got out of riding a few years ago but now Im almost back into it. I road twice this week after I finally figured out what was causing my bike to break and found a part.

Its worth the effort. If I'm in any health at all I probably owe a lot of it to biking. The Lord obviously is the One that takes care of me, but I feel He would like for us to make an effort.

I bought a bike with old fashioned hub gears. Hub gears are sealed so maintenance is much reduced. I can change gears without being underway. I don't like derailleur gears.

ive got one with a 3 speed hub gear but i used parts off of it to fix our oldest cruiser. Im thinking about putting the hub gear on my wife's cruiser so she can have a low geared bike

That reminds me of something that occured to me at dinner. I was just thinking about what a good thing it would be to get into a routine riding my mountain bike again.
I was thinking about how I'd design and make a tool kit that goes under the seat.
That's pretty wild that this is the first time I've read your post title. Maybe it will encourage me to get started again.

I bought a Pro Bike stand instead of the cheaper homeowner grade version. I've had no regrets when it comes to quality tools. I'm not saying that anyone should spend more than they feel comfortable. It's kind of a learning curve, so after they're committed, I would say to check yard sales and discount stores first. A little at a time as necessary. Rather than buying a screw driver set, a little bit kit and racheting driver saves money and works well.
I think that a starter kit for DIY repair can start out under $100. I like your recommendation. YouTube vids and a handy repair book is less than a bike shop mechanic. Then they'll learn how to fix a minor repair that could get them home.

Used bikes that have seen little use is another option.

I rode a mountain bike for 10 years and I rode it everywhere. I've rode that thing down the highway, by creeks in the river bottom and even the woods, fields and pastors. I'll always remember those times of being young and full of energy.

Been there, done that. I've got a bike now but I ride now mostly for transportation since I don't have a car; miss the good ol' days. I hear what you're saying about maintenance. I bought and expensive Trek mountain bike once and I went through three twist shifters before I finally gave up and sold it in a yard sale.

Do you know anything about e-bikes? Lately I've been thinking it would be nice to have one. The town where I live is pretty small and there's only one bike shop. He has some e-bikes for around $2,000. I don't know anything about them though and I'm afraid of sinking a lot of money into something that turns out to be a dud. I might be able to get a bargain if I knew how to buy one.

I don't have an e-bike as I'm riding to get fit, not for transport. Whatever you do, don't buy real cheap or second hand. Batteries are a potential fire risk. My bike has hub gears. I ride about 50 km a week. The only maintenance in two years has been to tighten the chain.

Same here.
I rode on I 68 in the truck lane when going up the Mountain. Downhill, I just hoped others would see me . Helmet is very important. My Dad died when he ran into a phone pole bare headed at high speed. God revived him , but he was vegetative with no hope of recovery according to the doctors. Another miracle occurred.
