However, the Bible teaches that God gave them over to do those things, a reprobate mind. Does everyone sin? Yes, for all have sinned.
The wages of that sin is death in hell.
Reformation is not salvation though.
The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 6:23

It's man's response to what Christ did for us that comes to question with Catholics.

Thanks, H&H! 1. So, is it a gay couple goes to their Priest and asks for a "blessing" of their living together and having sex, and then the Priest performs a ritual by which they are forgiven of this sin, they can continue doing it, and they are than allowed to partake in the sacraments?

2. Curious about a Mortal sin in the RC. If you commit it, can you ever be forgiven? If so, how?

3. Is it a Mortal sin to partake in the sacraments if you've committed a Mortal sin? Or is it a Mortal sin to have premarital sex? Or both?

4. I see someone wrote a Mortal sin has these three:
  1. It is a grave matter.
  2. The person knows that it is wrong.
  3. The person freely chooses it anyways.
What's a grave matter?
I just found an audio Q&A with a former RC priest that might be interesting to you. I am still working and listened to this already, but have trouble dividing my focus on here this evening. So excuse me for not being able to answer the rest of yours Questions right now. I think I covered most in the other posts. The Bible has the answers and knowing that even one sin has disqualified us from eternal life brings us to the fact of why Jesus was crucified.

There are only two ex cathedra dogmas and they both concern Mary... neither of which has any Scriptural backing.

The immaculate conception some confuse to mean Jessus' conception, but no, it concerns Mary's supposed
sinlessness which was required so Jesus could be sinless because apparently, He needed her help in this matter.


Then there is her assumption. Again, nothing in Scripture attests to this.

In fact these dogmas contradict Scripture.

But they are mandatory for the Roman Catholic to believe.
As a reformed catholic, the pope's declaration was startling to me. I thought the Catholic church would hold firm on this issue, but they have caved in like several denominations due to intense pressure from secular culture--Babylon is alive and well in our world.

My wife and I attended an ELCA Lutheran church a number of years ago, and the leadership decided to allow openly gay couples to not only attend church but also get married in the church. Gay members could also become pastors. It was an awful upheaval, and we went through a year of intense debate. Once our congregation accepted the edict, half the members left including the two of us.

The Bible makes it very clear that homosexuality is a sin. The pope and any other Christian church cannot change scriptural truth. But, like you noted, the Catholic church believes it has the authority to make their own rules. And, this change shows how much trouble they are in with declining membership in "progressive" nations that embrace and even encourage gay relationships.

I know we need to be forgiving and loving as Christians. However, we need to hold firm against the forces of evil gaining ground in this world as well. I have gay family members who I love, but they also know where I stand. I have not seen one of their relationships work out, and look at what our openly gay society is yielding--an erosion of core values and a weakening of all organizations who "embrace" this wave of liberalism.

Thank you for sharing this insightful commentary.

This scholar understands the step the Catholic church has taken down the dark path of accepting and even blessing gay relationships.

It will be fight in the Catholic community, and it is stunning that there is open rebellion against the pope by church leadership at the cardinal and bishop level on this matter.

My wife and I are back attending mass occasionally. There is certainly indifference to authority and ridiculous rituals among parishioners, and the church has backed off on enforcing the "rules". Many priests are faithful servants, who receive our attention and respect.

From what I can tell, most are there to worship and praise our God, listen to scripture, recite core doctrines of the Church, and experience communion with Christ and our fellow brethren.

We need to hold the line for conservative values more than ever today. I've been down this path with the ELCA Lutheran branch, and it was heartbreaking to be mild on what it did to our congregation--awful division and some heated discussions that yielded only strife and sadness.

You were right. Some believers are now creating a new schism with the Pope. The numbers are small but its symbolism is significant since there are about 1.4 billion Catholics worldwide, which may change things further in 10-20 years.
