John 1 Chapter 1.
Choosing the first disciples.

Reading this is so delightful. I picture Jesus and these young men at this beginning. Laughing, joking, relaxing and enjoying friendship. There is an energy and powerful simplicity in how swiftly they join Him. 'Follow me' He says and they do. They drop their lives and go because they see in Jesus a charisma, a beauty that cannot be resisted. They don't ask questions but just know He is really something special. Bit like falling in love when you just know it feels right.

Even further the young men excitedly go and tell others, their brothers and friends and they too come to Him. That is what we also should do - tell others how marvelous is Jesus and come follow Him. He is the way, the path, the light.

It really IS that uncomplicated in essence. Start following Him just as you are.
So why do people make it so complicated, is it because often we can't believe and will not allow things to be that simple? In a cynical world we have ceased to believe in true goodness and love?

Very well-said Mary and it's sort of my mindset too.
Things are not complicated and just follow Him, who gives me joy, happiness and purpose.

It's ok to imagine things about Jesus, but we need to be sure we know what Scripture says about Him, right?

Isaiah 53:2-5 ESV / 10 helpful votes Helpful Not Helpful
For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

Philippians, Chapter 2:

7But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

interesting post. it's not uncomplicated because most people on earth are atheists. always has been that way. here's 1 reason why: the devil will give you what you want immediately. with God, it usually takes a while to receive an answer to prayer. for anyone who wasn't raised Christian, just think of the very powerful condition response they live by. the older you get, the tougher it is to want to change. in fact just today, i was reviewing an old thought i had: "the toughest life is a Christian's life because we are sinners & our conscious often enough, doesn't desire to obey Christianity. proof of that is we always are sinners, no matter what belief you are of. it is much more difficult to follow Jesus than the devil. look at kids. they sin from the very beginning. no one taught them how to sin which is proof we were born with a sin nature. parents are always teaching their kids to do the right thing, never the wrong thing.

Well the disciples didn't ask questions, they just joined Him. They sensed he was like nobody else.

I notice how the self righteous always rejected Jesus and his message but the broken sinners of thier society welcomed him because he treated them with love regardless of thier sin

I am not just imagining about Jesus, I am reading scripture, where the picture is. The simplicity of how the first disciples dropped their lives and followed Him struck me as beautiful instant faith.
I want to be like that because it is what Christ talked about.
Yet human nature generally is to question, dissect, argue, fight, war, destroy. Christ did none of that and if we follow Him, we won't either. He brought healing and peace.

Jesus would have been known in and around Galilee.

After John was arrested this is written:

"When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee. 13 Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali..."

And a bit later:

"From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

He called Peter and Andrew first:

"As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 20 At once they left their nets and followed him."

His call to them, no doubt, resonated with their spirits.

I find also this part interesting

“When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭5:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I find it interesting that Jesus didn’t come and choose some holier than thou preacher who pretended he was righteous but instead he chose the real folks that weren’t pretending but knew they needed a savior because they were sinners it’s hard for a “righteous “person to hear the lords call

“But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭9:13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

It’s a stark contrast to how the self righteous delusional folks receives Jesus and his message they had no room for what the lord was saying

Exactly, we can only go to Jesus with humility, not while arrogance blocks our way to Him. God doesn't like the proud.

He doesn’t like pride no he needs humility and repentance

“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.”
‭‭James‬ ‭4:6-8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Sometimes we’re proud and don’t want to hear that part that we need to repent
