Jesus and sinners

“Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.

And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.


……And he said, A certain man had two sons: and the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.

And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.

And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, and am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.( he has come to repentance)

And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.

But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: and bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.”

“I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,

and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”

This is true, for the righteous need not repent. However, Scripture tells us:

2 Corinthians, Chapter 6:

14Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

15And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

16And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

17Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

18And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

IMO, it is good for us to "witness" to sinners in hopes of leading them to Jesus and repentance, but we should not live their lives with them in their style. Hope that makes sense....

yeah we’re all responsible for our own actions but to begin with we have to recognize we’re in the same boat as they are

You see we’re all in this boat first

“God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; There is none that doeth good, no, not one.”

and add this disposition upon it and we can see the conundrum

“Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.”

“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”

“But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.”

When Jesus is talking about a righteous person who doesn’t need to repent , there are none he’s soewking to some folks that were self righteous and looking down upon sinners they were also sinners but thought they were righteous everyone need to repent but to repent we have to come into the light and see ourselves for what we are

We might be a “ good person “ bit when you put a good person up against a perfect law made to show then sin they aren’t going to be found sinless and so because of that we have to have an atonement where a perfect man dies in our place for our sins

My point is we all need to repent none of us should go into it like w Pharisee thinking we’re already righteous because if we have this idea we’ll never hear the call to repentance like they didn’t who rejected him just as sinners hewrd Jesus nessage and flocked to him because he was talking about saving sinners not condemning them , his message also drive the self righteous away and turned them against him

They hated the fact that Jesus hung out with “sinners “ but if he hadn’t he would have been walking alone always because he was in a world of sinners

“And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.

And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?”

sinners can beer his nessage because it’s for them who don’t deny thier own sins

But imagine if I thought I’m already righteous and hear jesus calling me to repentance …..it’s going to not make sense maybe offend my righteous view of myself maybe cause me to reject what he’s saying because in my own view “ I’m not a sinner who needs to repent they are “

i agree with what your saying just the thing is it’s the hungry folk that need food not the ones sitting at the table

aid chrietians didn’t associate wi th sinners there would be no one to share the gospel with to the call of repentance and the saving of souls

awe can’t forget that all those sinners is where we came from too someone just shared the truth with us and this happened

“in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; and that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.”

sinners are just people on the wrong path headed for a cliff we all need to turn around and tell others bout the cliff ahead God will sort the rest out but I think we should just my opinion remember we were a sinner too we just found the one who saves us
