From linguistics:
Mar 12, 2015 — These so-called “tongues” are not real languages. The speakers are basically talking gibberish

But we KNOW God understands according to Corinthians so they are "real language only God speaks, not what humans speak."
again, I have offered nothing on interpretation or understanding BIBLICALLY

you refuse to acknowledge that God can also use extant or extinct languages which leaves an awful lot of room

you seem to attribute something to God that is not in scripture. God has made known about Himself what He wants us to know now.....that is just a tiny portion of all that He is

we have a linguist on this forum who has added to many threads...surprised he is not here now...you would really enjoy trading posts with him

That's the way God designed this creation.

The manifestation of the Holy Spirit in all ways, shapes, and forms. Is for the building of the church and that church is a supernatural church. The Holy Spirit governs the church and we can obey and run with the Holy Spirit. Or we can dig our heals in and attempt to run the church ourselves.

On the topic of mental illness which the majority of people have, in my opinion. It is just suppressed and hidden from others.
The problem is mental illness is divided into spectrums of specific mental conditions. You may be lightly touched and have one or more symptoms on say the autistic spectrum. You don't have to be fully autistic, just somewhere on the spectrum. Same goes for every other mental illness.

I have heard and seen far too much in life to not realize that. The insane run the asylum that I inhabit and I cannot leave. Because someone threw the keys away. Just look at the political class running for election. A good sample of the wider population.

Do you think Biden, Trump, Putin, are sane?
Have you ever studied Sigmund Freud? They claim he tortured patients and it turned out he was a literal narcissist/psychotic.

All 3 Trump/Biden/Putin should be removed from society. They exemplify Romans 1 Reprobate Mind to it's very Biblical definition.

Why would I acknowledge that when Paul ""specifically said NO HUMAN" could ever understand. That is ALL Forms of human language EVER.

Therefore, speaking in tongues ""cannot"" be a form of human language.

You emphasize one aspect at the detriment of the other. Obviously the people saved at Pentecost were NOT hearing as saved individuals yet they heard in their own languages.

I understand you would have to completely do a 180 to allow that truth to become truth to you also.

pastor/elder (or assistant pastor, youth pastor, etc.)
from your profile.

Now, I really do think it best to just move on. thank you

I have had a kind of baptism by fire when it comes to the false and nothing I would have inflicted upon myself. Basically a false pastor who had a known trouble causing so called evangelist come to his church because, and I quote "he brings in lots of people". When I asked him how he could have such a person come to his church, that was his response.

This is a travesty and not a true man called by God to shepherd sheep. I was totally unaware of what could happen in a church when a person endowed with trust can manipulate, use and basically endanger people spiritually, emotionally and even physically to some extent, so I engaged in the false not knowing what it really was.

Making a long story short, many people were harmed, myself included and this 'evangelist' was kicked out of his denom and exposed for what he was. But the harm was done and I suspect that even to this day people suffer because of his demonic renderings. I know of a number of stories myself and I was away from God for some years due to this event.

I am super cautious. I will not let anyone lay hands on me, tell me what they believe is God speaking for me, or any other common practice we find in some churches today. All a result of the damage I suffered by a someone who should never have been allowed in any church. It goes on today. We have scandals all over the place...the NYC branch of Hillsong for example....the pastor there involved in sexual scandals. How many has he hurt? God knows.

I'm just trying to make a point of how false teaching....false anything...damages people that God loves. BUT, we all have an obligation also to study and understand. Thing is, people seem to love flash and instant results. They never last.
It is a world wide phenomenon/problem in all church movements. It was also occurring in the first century. That is the reason for many of Paul's letters.

Hope the Lord heals you fully, puts a bright smile back on your face.

I attended the church before it became Hillsong, once to see a friend. Then 20 years later, lived one street back from the original Hillsong Church, which I never attended. Though my flat mates were all Hillsong. I also noticed that Hillsong songs were littered throughout the song list in many other churches that I have attended.

There is no easy way to filter those bad apples out of any congregation.

Pail said NO HUMAN could understand.

That means from beginning of time to the end NO HUMAN can understand.

Is it that difficult for you to understand Paul said NO HUMAN CAN UNDERSTAND?

I would have to call God a liar to agree with you!!

I will not when Paul made it clear NO HUMAN CAN UNDERSTAND!

Paul never said that.
2 For anyone who speaks in tongues does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit.

Am I to believe that (no one) understands him is not a human being?

Thank you. I have had a lot of healing but also learned so much along the way.

I have often pointed out myself the fact that much of the NT was written to correct/instruct and so on. Nothing new under the sun as someone famous once said.

You are right. There is no easy way to filter out the bad apples. In fact, they can become so engrained in their deceptions that if you try to somehow point it out, you become the one that is trouble.

Agree, it comes out in the wash, usually after the person has passed away. So much is hidden, concealed, from the view of others.

Narcissism fueled so many prolific people in world history. Many CEO's suffer from Narcissism.

A Narcissist will usually climb the greasy poll.

Of course Trump, Biden and Putin, have reprobate minds. They are representative of the population they came from.

Horrible thought but it's true.

If all 3 were kings of the Bible in the OT, they would have been some of the most ruthless rulers ever known in history.

We know there's over 7,000 (7,117) languages ever spoken. We've been to every continent and island. So we are well aware of basically every human language ever spoken. So when a linguist or translator "cannot" decipher or translate speaking in tongues, it's just how Paul explains it to be...
2 For anyone who speaks in tongues does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit.

This means it is not a human language but a language "only God" (not human) knows.
You keep making illogical conclusions. The last statement there is not a logical conclusion based on that statements that come before it. If a linguist doesn't have any meaning to attach a language he hears to, he's not going to be able to decipher it. Paul mentioned speaking in the tongues of men and of angels. We do not know if angelic languages are inflected for meaning the same way human languages are. A linguists theories and tools may not work on an angelic language.

How should we interpret 'no man understandeth him' from I Corinthians 14? Does that mean that speaking in tongues is NEVER in a human language. That would contradict Acts 2, where the people heard the disciples speaking in their languages and dialects. In the very same book, Paul refers to speaking in the tongues of men and of angels.

The issue is no one present understands the tongue. If someone 500 years ago understood it in the jungles of Borneo, or if it's an angelic language, it functions the same way. No one understands except through the gift of interpretation.

Paul was describing the situation, what's going on when they spoke in tongues, not making some kind of rule that contradicted or overturned Acts 2 and his own statement in I Corinthians 13.

But I already said that part about 10 times now in past 8 pages.
I said it takes the Supernatural Gift of Interpretation to understand.

Your correct. Their sin follows them. Some folk are easy to spot but others only after they have departed.

Best to preach Christ crucified and love the brethren. This is God's creation not mine. These nasty folk are God's concern.

I just focus on the simple and easy stuff, peacefulness and the joy of the Holy Spirit.

Paul said, no human can understand it. What does that mean to you? If you're a natural man who follows science and cannot understand speaking in tongues, what does that mean to you?

Those three beautiful people are up against some heavy competition in history.

We have royalty that executed members of their own family to gain power.

We have people who betrayed their own nation to an enemy nation, for financial gain.

Our history is not pleasant to read. So many colorful characters doing beautiful things to other people.

I bet at least 2 of the 3 could have been Hitler like if they both or at least 1 could have been a dictator of the USA.

Biden is about to position us against Israel when they continue to march through the rest of Gaza. We might not ever see another re-election because that will fulfill all nations against Israel prophecy. He's that insane to do such a thing in my opinion.

Biden is so stupid he gave Israel an ultimatum and commanded a cease fire.

So Trump, Biden, Putin are all equally insane.

I said it takes the Supernatural Gift of Interpretation to understand.

1cor chapter 14:1-5

14 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.
2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.

4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.

5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.
