We can Endure

Fearful sweaty hands and tears on dirty faces
Torrid heat, disease, and deadly places

Danger and danger such a fright
The bang of gunfire in the night

Today can we endure, and peaceably endure
Can we be and remain calm and sure?

Yes, like our saintly brothers and sister in the past
Worthy through horrors they did last

Their skin raked off, their body in two shorn

Enduring the pain, humiliation and the scorn,
Mirrors of the One for pain and suffering was born

Singing in dark, foul smelling prisons with joy
Brought before a judge to be his torture toy

Begging not to stop the henchmen’s ax with sharpened gleam
For the pleasure of heaven glory soon seen

And what about us you ask?
Are we the same, are we up to the task?

Yes, for He will tell you what to be and say
He will be your way

Spirit of power and love that sustained the Fathers son
Will sustained us until our new life is begun
