Adolf Hitler was a decorated soldier in the German army during WW1. He was seriously wounded. I wonder what the world would have been like if he had not survived? He was a force for great evil and the cause of great loss of life.
Everyone has his own little Hitler within. It likely won't manifest itself to the degree that Adolf Hitler did and the consequences not as catastrophic. But that inner "dictator" is just as wicked and takes us down the broad road that leads to destruction. The Bible calls it the sinful nature. More, we are described as being dead in trespass and sin. (Ephesians 2:1)
Two objects cannot occupy the same place. That's a problem. God wants us to have new life. It is the spirit of man that is dead. In order to give us a new spirit, (Ezekiel 36:26) God must first remove the old, dead spirit. Please note that death does not mean the end of existence. Those who promote that idea have a wrong concept of death. How does God rid us of the dead spirit?
We come into this life by birth and we leave by death. And so it is with the born again believer. God includes us in the death of Christ. When He died, so did we. (Galatians 2:20). The death of Christ is not only to save us from the penalty of our sins. It is also to deliver us from the sinner that produces sin so readily.
The resurrection of Christ is our resurrection also. If we die with Him it is certain that we will live with Him also (Romans 6:8). This is the new life that Jesus came to give us, life that comes out of death.
Who takes a dead person to court? No traffic cop is going to write up a speeding driver who dies in a car crash. No, the dead person is buried. And that is the true significance of water baptism. (Colossians 2:12).
Do you still struggle with yourself? Do you fret over past failures and defeats? Do you recall those foolish decisions or thoughtless and hurtful things you said? Remind yourself that all that was the work of a dead person. If you doubt, picture yourself in front of a gravestone with your name on it. That is the reality! (Colossians 3:3)
