Dry, dust blown patch of sand and scorched earth,
Fallow and empty as long as recalled.
Abandoned, unwanted, visited but rarely by lost, wandering shepherds,
Rushing their flock quickly past, seeking greener pastures.

Yet The Herdsman came and marked its boundaries,
Erecting stone markers and a crude fence.
A well was dug, fresh water still flows,
While immigrant stock, once rejected; now fill the land.

Small crops were planted, grapes, olives, barley and wheat,
That flourish in the rich earth so long left fallow.
The land flowers under his gentle hand, increase follows increase,
And barns appear throughout the land.

The ground was transformed under his care,
It blooms once again as it did for a king.
Now the rightful owners have returned,
To fulfill the ancient promise.

The lost come back, first a trickle, now a flood,
Back from where they were scattered.
Waiting until the age of fulfillment is complete,
And returning from where they began.

Oh, hear and see with eyes and ears,
A truth not hidden but spoken plain.
See the hand of the Shepherd-God at work,
And count with care the time and the age.

Deut. 33: 28
So Israel will live in safety; Jacob will dwell secure in a land of grain and new wine,
where the heavens drop dew.
