Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I went forward to be prayed for at church this morning. I asked for the salvation of my loved ones and for their finances, including my finances. When I sat down, I was suddenly not hyper but very calm and peaceful with some joy. But I am usually hyper, especially at church, which plays loud, intense worship music. What does that mean?

Be glad that you were calm. The Lord gave you peace.

But loud intense music is not conducive to Christian worship at all. This is not the New Testament pattern, but reflects more on how the world does things.

It is very sad that so many churches have taken this route. Perhaps you should look around for one where they "sing psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, and make melody in their hearts to the Lord".

Yeah, worship music should firstly be about God and not us. Rather than 'give me' it should be 'thank you' based.

Next.. it shouldn't really look like popular wordly music. Eg head banging, loud, can't tell the lyrics, inappropriate dress.

Among other things it should also be scripturally sound. Like when you would be singing about bringing the Holy Spirit down to the congregation, often seen in Hillsong lyrics. Scripturally He was either there or not, rather than being called to come down like a mystical experience.

Check out the depth of meaning in some of the old hymns. If you think the sound is boring... the lyrics are not!

His heard your prayers and gave you “…peace which passes all understanding.” Phil 4:7. This can be a pattern for you in personal prayer - present your prayers to God and ask Him to give you peace.

Hi Zanzoken, I think Burn 1986 is correct, and I thought it worthwhile to post all of Philippians 4: 6&7

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

I often "hand my worries to Jesus" at night before bed....just tell Him everything I can possibly think of that's bothering me. It's very comforting and helps a lot with anxiety. 1 Peter 5: 6&7 is another good passage:

6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

God Bless!

oh, look what comes right before Phil 4:6!

"The Lord is near"

imperatives (commands) in the NT are always anchored by indicatives (what God in Christ has already done for you). i promise you, take a peek and you'll see it.

why (how) can you be anxious for nothing? The Lord is near!

of course, you already figured that out for yourself without the boring grammar lesson, but this imperative/ indicative business is just too good to keep to myself. :)

when people are benevolent to others with action, they feel a joyous feeling of satisfaction knowing you assisted God's work. i receive this feeling all the time when helping someone or praying for them

Music affects the hormones/ adrenals.
Stress hormones are activated by certain types of music.
I quit attending a local evangelical mega church, in large part because the music production was too over the top. There were LEDs/ Lazer light show that I was hoping was not harming my vision. The fog machines were s ented with some fragrance chemicals. The music volume was way too loud.
I have ringing of the ears for the rest of my life. How can God be pleased with that? I'll tell you that there's not a concert in the world worth the hearing loss and constant mosquitos buzzing in both ears.
