Living my life
With all that it brings,
A life consumed
By worldly things.
My life had wealth,
And status, and ease,
I lived each day
Myself to please.

It was with stealth
And sudden surprise,
When I found no glee
In earthly prize.
Even as I reckoned
My goodly treasure,
It no longer brought
To me any pleasure.

What in the world
Has happened to me?
I have it all.
What more can there be?
And why am I
No longer content?
Where has serenity
And comfort been sent?

I don't know for sure
How my thoughts changed;
Nor all the ways
My life rearranged.
But now I know
What more can be.
The day I met Jesus
My soul was set free.

All the things I acquired
In spree after spree,
Were in actuality
Acquiring me.
Now all those things
That I had acquired
Were no longer things
My heart desired.

How easily riches
And comfort deceive.
Thankfully, in grace,
I was granted reprieve.
I am most thankful,
grateful eternally,
For that glorious day
Jesus happened upon me.

John 8:36 plus Romans 8:2 If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death.

Great poem! I especially respond to these lines:

All the things I acquired
In spree after spree,
Were in actuality
Acquiring me.

The older I get the more I see truth here.
