I have had this discussion with many teens and mothers of teens lately. Many today let the trends of the day set what is acceptable daily wear. Yet our Lord tells us that we are to be set apart from the ways of the world. This includes how we dress. The Hebrew people were even given a strict dress code in order to be apart from the heathen nations.
When it comes to how you dress it is most important to remember that you represent the image of God. Is your attire God honoring or self honoring? Are you focused on glorifying the Lord or your body, which He made?
Satan uses our desires to lead us away from God. He points to what we want and says go get it. The Bible states in 3 Timothy 3:6, "For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts."

Divers lusts = diverse desires

What is it you desire?

Finally, we are taught to pray unto God to lead us not I to temptation. If we would have God not lead us I to temptation, then we also must not be leading others into temptation. This means that if the clothes you wear will attract the eyes of men to lust after you then you are dressing in a manner to tempt them. As a Christian lady, have care for the souls of the men around you. Satan is attacking them daily to sin. Do not assist him.
Well said Brother! Love is always a blessing!

Hello!
I'm new here (so hello everyone!)
I'm wondering your views on modesty. I am a teenage girl (enough said ). Seriously though, I am fairly new to religion, and don't want to make any huge mistakes, but I am also aware of how it is actually quite difficult to be a devoted Christian in this day and age.

Soooo...
That being said, how far should modesty go? Is it bad to wear shorts, or certain dresses? And where do tight leggings go in all this?

Hope this makes sense and any advice is always appreciated! :)
I appreciated your honest heart. Let me encourage you to read and study your Bible, especially the New Testament Which is the testament of Jesus Christ. 1 Timothy 2:9 says “women adorn themselves in MODEST APPAREL… with shamefacedness…which is proper for women professing godliness with good works. “ Another reason God gives for dressing modestly is so we do not cause others to sin. Jesus tells men they are not to “lust” in their hearts. (Minds). As one man said, “ It doesn’t take much.”. to cause a man to lust. And yes, a man must give an account of himself but Jesus also tells us we are guilty of sin if we CAUSE someone else to stumble (sin). The Bible gives “guidelines” so we can know what God approves. Genesis 3 when Adam and Eve realized they were naked, sewed fig leaves together and one version said they made “aprons” for themselves. We all know how much an apron covers. But it is evident that that was not sufficient for God. God, instead, made them “tunics” of animal skins. A tunic by definition is a coat that comes down to the knees. This, I know, is approved by God. I also know that “aprons” or clothes that are equal to that is not enough for God.
One other thing we can get from this story, is that even though Adam and Eve had fig leaf coverings, when God came to them, they hid. When He asked them why they hid themselves, they said because they were naked. So even though they had covered the bare essentials, they still considered themselves “naked”. I suppose God thought so, too because he made clothes for them. I think we can all get an idea of how much or how little the fig leaves covered.
2500 years later God has not changed his mind about what was modest. He gives instructions to the Jewish priests about their clothing. Exodus 28:42 says the priests were to wear “britches” under their tunics that went from the waists to the thighs — to cover their nakedness. As I said the Bible gives us “guidelines.” I think we can all pretty well know what God considered modest. Private parts were to be kept covered. I doubt the bikinis that women wear today in public covered as much as the fig leaves of Adam and Eve. If they are modest then the only thing immodest is complete nakedness with nothing on at all.
I recommend listening to a sermon on this subject by Kris Emerson called “The Black Box.” You can find it on the Lindale church of Christ website click on “sermons” or “online media” and type in “The Black Box.” He also has another one called “The Power of Modesty.” Both deal with this subject in depth. Be strong and courageous.

I injured myself, and I take modesty way past extreme. I never expose more than my head and hands. I wear double jeans ant shirts, no matter the heat, and try to avoid being seen as much as possible. and, I am a male, but the scars run deep... years of porn addiction. changed me in so many ways.

I am too old for cute any more
not that modern outfits for teen girls are ''cute'' they are more ''sexy'' unfortunately for us males who love them and don't want to look at them that way.
