In Colorado our four seasons are "Almost Winter", "Winter", "Still Winter", and "Construction."

Sledding for fun. Seeing the snow in the link makes me have fond memories of sledding. I haven't gone sledding since I was in my mid 20s though. Me and a gal pal went to a hill after work with our sleds. I didn't have a sled with me. I worked in retail at the time and went to the back and got one of those really huge, heavy plastic banana box bottoms. Don't ever try to use one of these to sled!! Anyway, we get to the hill and I get into it and I barely got a little ways down the hill when it left me and I went down most of the hill on my rear. My friend, bless her heart, was at the top of the hill screaming, "Carrie!! Carrrrrrrrrrrrrie?!??? Are you okay? Carrrrrrrrrrrrrrie????!!!!" I'm not screaming or saying anything at all, she's doing all the hysterical screaming.
I pick myself up and carry the stupid thing back up the hill. And what do I do? I try it again! Hey, we all have stupid moments! I thought that if I positioned myself differently in the big plastic thing that it wouldn't leave me. Nope. It left me just as fast and I went down the hill on my rear again! Thankfully, I was off work the next day, 'cause I spent all day under the electric blanket resting my sore body.

Carrie, i had something similar happen with me and my sister. we had taken out my mother's old steel runner sled. well, we had this idea to wax the the runners and we sure did for like a half an hour. we took it to the highest hill in the area. we both got on and off we went. and FAST so fast that it was throwing sparks. there just so happened to be a little hill at the bottom. there we went flying. thank heavens too we may have died otherwise.

And you were... How old when you did this?

Reason I ask is, you reporting recuperating with soreness later. It's hard to gauge what that means. If you were a kid, it means holy crap in a can, you sure beat yourself up! If you were my age it only means, you tried to do something physical at my age.

I was a teen during the blizzard of 93. I went to a high school in far northeast Tennessee. There was a steep hill separating the school from the back parking lot.

Nobody else availed themselves of the opportunity because teenagers are much too cool for that. But I climbed up and slid down the hill until lunch break was over. If you're too cool to have fun you need to slide down a snowy hill on your butt and chill out.

My butt was indeed wet for the rest of the day and people probably didn't think much of my mental acuity for at least a month. Worth it.

Really wow I didn't know that… The reason why I shared this jd because when I saw the footage I shared I couldn't believe it, it looked like the USA / Canada not South Africa. 😅

South Africa unlike USA / Canada is not equipped to deal with such things. Thus there is a massive blockage on that main road of ours that links provinces.

You've never been to the South, I see. We may be in the USA but we are also not equipped to deal with that. One little INCH of snow and everything shuts down everywhere.

Thanks for sharing I have never been sledding before lol. I certainly don't seem to be an "adrenaline junkie" like you appear to have been?

LoL, I've never thought of myself as an adrenaline junkie. I do seem to have always been around friends who aren't as "brave" as I am lol. There's been at least 3 times I've been swimming and there would be snakes swimming around. Each of those times was with a different friend and each time the friend would be upset and have a very worried look on their face. The thing of it was, those were water snakes. Harmless. One of the last times I went swimming, there was a water snake swimming back and forth from one side of the bank to the other. It wasn't bothering me, I wasn't bothering it. I thought to myself, if I don't tell my friend maybe she won't notice. Well, she eventually spotted it and was afraid for my safety. I said, "It's no big deal, we've been swimming by each other since we got here."

When a friend decided to go camping with my group, he became interested in catching a water snake in a pool next to the river. He asked me to ID it. It was certainly an Eastern Water snake. There are no Moccasins in my state. These have an anticoagulant saliva but aren't considered venomous. I told him he should leave it be because they tend to be very bitey when handled. He was determined though.

An hour or two later, he finally caught it......and it caught him. He dropped it and came to me with his hand bleeding from the pin pricks. He was really scared at first because two of them looked like fang holes. I told him to let it bleed to flush it clean. He asked if I was REALLY SURE it was not venomous and I said. 🤔 Hmmm. Maybe I was wrong.
I let him sweat a while. 🙂

LoL, I wouldn't have been able to stop myself from doing the same. Water snakes are neat. They seem be curious and friendly...but usually it's because they want you to share your fish with them (that's been my experience while fishing).

I am indeed a country girl. I spent a good amount of time out on the creek banks, out in the creek water, out in the woods, out in the wild.
When I was a child, I went fishing with my grandmother at a pond out in the Osage. Water snakes started to surround us. I looked at my grandmother and one was hovering over her on a limb. One was slithering between her legs. Others were just hanging around, waiting on a fish. There was a lot of them. She is just standing there with a cigarette hanging out her mouth, fishing and as calm as could be. I was 9 at the time and I asked her, aren't you bothered by these snakes all around you? She said, "Ohh, they ain't gonna hurt ya'." After that, we called it The Snake Pond. And that woman managed to get me to go there with her other times. When I finally told her that while I understand that they aren't gonna hurt me, it's just too much having a bunch of water snakes slithering around me all the time. It's hard to do any fishing. So she took me to another fishing area. The bank was overgrown with grass. I set down on the bank. I started hearing movement in the grass. I gave my grandmother the side eye. Snakes started appearing from the grass, from the other side of the bank, etc. "Ohh, they ain't gonna hurt ya'!"
