I have become fascinated by the Prophet Zechariah. His prophecies are considered both Messianic and apocalyptic. The last chapter, Zechariah 14, contains some very interesting statements given world events during the past year. For example:

In verse 1 it is written that the Lord will be coming to Jerusalem when it has been plundered and its possessions divided up within her walls. This is what happened on October 7th. I note in the bible “Jerusalem” is a general term that can also mean Judea, the land of the Jews. The spoils of the plundered homes were indeed divided up within the walls during that terrible event.

In verse 2 it states that nations will be gathered against Jerusalem, it will be taken, the houses ransacked and the women raped. The nations have surrounded Judea since its inception. Terrorists have amassed, especially to the north and south. These groups represent all nations that were present when these words were written. The October attack devastated Judea in just this way, word for word.

Verse 2 also states half the people will go into exile. Today thousands of Judeans have been forced to flee their homes and have been unable to return. They remain in exile.

Verse 3 states the Lord will go out and fight those evil nations. This is plain for everyone with eyes to see. The evil “nations” do not yet understand. They may be just starting to understand.

Verse 12 explains what will happen to those who attack God’s people. “Flesh rotting while they are standing on their feet” is pretty much what happened when the pagers exploded. Rotting tongues and eyes is the blindness and deafness that followed those attacks. Signs of great panic by the enemies of God’s people are just now beginning to appear.

I am surely no prophet and have no special knowledge or talent, except perhaps the ability to read. If you are one who believes “The Day of the Lord” is approaching, this should give you pause.

What comes to mind for me is Matthew 23:37-39 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those sent to her, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were unwilling! Look, your house is left to you desolate. For I tell you that you will not see Me again until you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.’ ”
