Is the selection process for the President of the United States of America rigged/fraudulent?

The people choose Trump to be the nominee by overwhelming vote putting their nominee through trial by democracy and a campaign cycle with alternative choices in the Republican party, this happened for the most part last year and the start of this year before the formal main campaign. Kamala came to the nomination by appointment from the democrat party elite unopposed so I guess to answer your question it's half and half.

The American citizen, anyone that was registered to vote and showed up to the polls whenever their state held the primary elections which were in the Winter and Spring for the most part.

Who chooses the Presidential candidates to begin with? Can anybody choose to be a Presidential Candidate?
Well first you need to apply and get a certain number of votes. Many aren't aware but there are usually hundred of candidates each year that apply.

Why is it that the rich are more likely to become a Presidential Candidate?

The parties choose their nominee formally at the convention which was in the Summer. The GOP nomination process was done as a democracy, they had a field like 5-7 candidates that performed well enough in the opinion polls to be invited to the first few debates, take note Trump though invited did not attend any of the debates but attempted a grassroots campaign. This phase, the primary campaign phase took place last year cultivating the candidates and giving them platform to debate and make their case, most dropped out before the primary elections then in this year's past Winter and Spring. Trump overwhelming won the elections they all dropped out leaving him as the nominee, though he still easily met the threshhold for election wins regardless, really he blew out the primary polls this cycle. The democrats basically rigged their own primary so that Biden had no real challenger, and ostracized some of their party like RFK Jr. whom then ran as an independent. Then of course after Biden malfunctioned in the first main season debate against Trump the democrats pretty much threw all their elections in the trash and outright appointed Kamala to the nomination in the Summer. This is how the nominee for the GOP became Trump and the democrats became Kamala.

To add to this, only members of a party can vote in their respective primaries. I'm an independent so I couldn't vote in neither of the Republican or Democratic primaries.

Not totally so, in many states, including my own you can vote in either primary regardless of party affiliation. Some states though yes they do have this rule you mention of having to be a party member. The primary elections are their own special process, each state is more free to have peculiar rules on a state by state basis, hence the campaign cycle the year before is more rigorous as candidates have to win have to compete on a more state by state basis rather than focusing on a handful of swing states.

Again for the GOP the answer would be the American citizen, anyone registered to vote. For the democrats, their party elite.

No, but they play a part obviously since they get to host the debates and such which can influence opinion of the voters.
