Hey! In regard to Gen 1:27. I did not mention that God was a "physical being". I stated that God created Adam in His own "image." Image is a "visual" representation. I only go into detail on this because of an organization claiming "god the mother" using this verse as evidence that there is a "god the mother"

Thanks for the verses. Objective is to read the Bible from cover to cover, Genesis to Revelation, in sequential order.

I believe God punishes justly. I mentioned Eve was punished more harshly than Adam. That was just.

Gen 4:15 - I read that verse completely wrong, thanks! Reading the part of "setting a mark" confused me at first. I went back and reread it and now I understand.

I posted notes from Genesis Chapter 6-10 to help with the 1000 word count maximum. Have a nice one!
Genesis Chapter 6-10 posted separately* to help with the 1000 word count maximum

GENESIS CHAPTER 6 NOTES

Y'all,

Again, my comments are in brackets.

Gen 6:3 -The Lord states the days of men shall be 120 years [I note that Methuselah died in the year of the flood, so that event marks the end of the original longevity.]

Gen 6:5 - describes the magnitude of sin "And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." [My Bible's footnotes points us to PS 14:1-3, "...there is no one who does good..."]

Gen 6:6 - The Lord regretted making man, never knew this "And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart." Makes me want to be better than the day before and forever grateful for Jesus Christ. [Your desire obeys EPH 4:30's command not to grieve God.]

Gen 6:7 The Lord says he's going to destroy everything on earth because he regrets making them. Gen 6:8 - Thanks to Noah the Lord found grace Gen 6:9 - Noah walked with God [Noah apparently can be understood as being the OT equivalent of what the NT calls the chosen few (MT 22:14). ]

Gen 7:1 - God is saving Noah because he has been righteous in his generation [We must assume Noah was imputed righteousness because of saving faith in God]

Gen 7:4 - Forty days and night of rain would destroy every living substance that God had made off the face of the earth [and the next time fire will be the physical means of world-wide judgment]

Gen 7:11 - Not sure what "fountains of the great deep" mean. Seems like it is something in the ocean [It is amazing how much water is underground even now]

Gen 7:16 - The Lord shut Noah in the ark Gen 7:24 - Water was on the earth for 150 days Gen 8:4 - The ark rested on the mountains of Ararat Gen 8:21-22 - The Lord says he will not smite any more every thing living as He had done. While the earth remaineth day and night shall not cease. [MT 24:22 does say the final judgment will be cut short so the elect will survive. Also see v.36-42]

Gen 9:1 - God blessed Noah and his sons Gen 9:2 - God permits eating living things (meat) [Yay!]

GN 9:6. “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed.” Capital punishment is appropriate for capital crimes. This is the first time the role of humanity in establishing moral laws and enforcing them with just or logical consequences is affirmed in the Bible. Its NT equivalent is RM 13:1-4. It is intended to discourage people from choosing or practicing crime/evil.

GN 9:7-17. In verse seven, humanity is commanded to “Be fruitful and increase in number”, but not to overpopulate and pollute the earth. In verse 15 God says, “Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.” If God promises not to destroy life again, neither should mankind create a flood of pollution that destroys it, but rather mankind should be good stewards of our earthly resources and perhaps limit procreation if needed in order to provide a healthy planet.

Gen 9:9-10 - God establishes covenant with Noah, his seed, and the animals that were in the ark Gen 9:13 - "bow in the cloud" sign of God's covenant between Him and the earth Gen 9:22 - Ham is the father of Canaan. Ham called his brothers to see Noah's nakedness
Gen 9:23 - Shem and Japheth respected their father unlike Ham

Gen 9:25 - Noah curses Canaan because of what Ham did Gen 9:27 - Noad cursed Canaan to be a servant unto Shem and Japheth [Yes, and this does NOT justify the slavery of anyone else's family]

Gen 9:29 - Noah died at 950 years old. He lived longer than Adam who lived to 930 years old. It was stated previously that God walked with Noah. Noah saw the Lord and was the most righteous of his generation.

Gen 10:2 - Sons of Japheth are Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras Gen 10:6 - Ham's sons are Cush, Mizraim, Phut, and Canaan Gen 10:8 - Cush had Nimrod who was a mighty one on the earth Gen 10: 15-18 - Canaan had Sidon, Heth, the Jebusite, the Amorite, the Girgasite, the Hivite, the Arkite, the Sinite, the Arvadite, the Zemarite, and the Hamathite. These are the Canaanites.
Gen 10:19 - The border of the Canaanites was from Sidon to Gaza

Gen 10:22 - It states the "children" of Shem instead of "sons." The children of Shem are Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram [My translation still says "sons".]

Gen 10:25 - The earth was divided in the days of Peleg son of Eber. [curious; what promoted the writer to say that?] Eber is son of Arphaxad who is son of Shem.

The biblical teaching is that no one has seen God, whether physical or visual.

What makes reading the Bible more fun is to connect dots, sew OT & NT Scripture together, making notes in the margins as you go.

The GN story indicates A&E sinned together or equally, "not that one type of labor is worse than another type". [I just now thought of that part in quotes--thanks!]

I'm not familiar with different belief systems/denominations within Christianity. I grew up learning there is one God and Jesus Christ died for our sins for us to have salvation. I focus on Jesus Christ. If you believe in Jesus Christ, lets walk together and study His Word!
I didn't grow up in a denomination either. Honestly, I'm thankful. A quick search says there are over 45,000 denominations in the world, with over 200 in the U.S. That's wild.

I just heard sounds and at first I thought maybe it was church bells since it's Sunday. The sound started to get closer and I realized it is an ice cream truck. Am I the only one that's surprised that ice cream trucks still exist? lol.
Pardon my occasional off topic sporadic entries! I can't help myself!

I'm not familiar with that song. I listen to EDM😀 I agree, it's hard for many to come to terms that they have been believing a lie. If your heart wants to know and speak truth. Once you discover a lie you will handle it righteously and move on accordingly.
EDM ...electronic dance music?

Agreed, from the fullness of the heart, the mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34)

I'm glad I found this place. It's hard to find people who read the Bible daily and from beginning to end. How long does it usually take you to read the Bible from cover to cover?
I'm glad you did to!
It's funny you ask that question, because last night I was wondering the same thing and calculated the amount of time. Interestingly, even though I've read the Bible through several times, I don't recall having bothered before to figure out how long it takes to read a certain amount of chapters a day. I guess I just decided to take a lifelong commitment to daily reading, so for me it'll be until death. But, to answer your question...
After today it will take approximately 236 days to read 5 chapters a day.
184 days after today will be spent in the Old Testament and 52 days will be spent in the New Testament.

Hope you don't mind, we're gonna be here a while!

You know what? I think that means we'll finish on July 4th! (if all my collections are correct)

Those people from that organization claiming "god the mother" have me studying the Bible with the most engagement I've had in my life😂
LoL! Bless your heart. A similar thing happened to me back in 2014. Someone in SoCal tried to interest me in their cult. Their cult is all in Spanish, so I had to take some time to figure out what I'd be getting myself into. What I found out was, I wasn't going to get myself into anything lol. They reject the Trinity, claim Paul is the devil, and their "prophet" has falsely predicted the end of the world at least once. At least they didn't have a "god the mother" though

Oh, speaking of World Mission Society Church, last night I was curious about their locations. I really didn't think they'd have any churches in Oklahoma. I'd heard of them before, but never heard of any in Oklahoma. Well, come to find out, they have 4 churches in my state! One is only about an hour from me.

----
Okay, okay. I realize this isn't an ice cream study social (although, I kinda wish it was ).
Anyway, yes I did read the next 5 chapters and noted a few of my thoughts. I decided to keep my notes a bit more minimal today, since some of my viewpoints in this section might be considered "out there."

Genesis 6
There are different ways that people look at Genesis 6. Personally, I am a believer that the Nephilim existed and old legends of fantastical beings with super powers are stories that were told of the Nephilim. One of my favorite books talks about this and is an excellent read... The Omega Conspiracy: Satan's Last Assault On God's Kingdom by Dr. I.D.E. Thomas. I've read it at least 4 times, and I plan to read it again.

Genesis 7

I believe Noah's Flood greatly changed the topography of Earth, resulting in mountains, canyons, etc.

Genesis 8

What I find touching and inspiring about this chapter is the Noah sent out the birds and when the dove came back with an olive branch he knew the water was abated. And then he uncovered the Ark and seen the dry land. But, he did not leave the Ark. He stayed until God told him to he could leave the Ark. It's important that we wait on the Lord's guidance.

Another thing I like about this chapter is that God promises that as long as the Earth exists there will always be day and night, seasons will always change, and crops will always grow food.

Genesis 9

We are given the covenant of the rainbow, which is very smashing and beautiful.

The part of this chapter involving the scene between Noah and Ham has been debated for ages. I've looked into some viewpoints on this occurrence, but I don't solidly espouse to any one of the viewpoints, except that it was a shameful act that led to Ham's son being cursed.

Genesis 10

I don't have much to say about this chapter, except I think Nimrod is an interesting character. I've studied his character in the past and need to do a refresher. I remember he mostly likely lined up with ancient historical figure(s). I should do an in-depth study soon.

Oh, I remembered a fascinating sermon that I thought I'd throw out here in case it's of interest while we are still in the beginning of Genesis.

Hi, Looking for brothers and sisters who want to read Genesis to Revelations.
Something to consider as you begin Old Testament

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. … And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:1-4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the New testament fits in that structure but is revealing something more about the beginning

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”
‭‭John‬ ‭1:1-5‬ ‭

Im not sure you’ll notice the point but the two testament actually are working together to reveal Jesus Christ from the beginning

Regarding Noah's Flood, I wonder if the continents at one time were only barely above sea level, and plate tectonics uplifted the mountains and the receding flood water caused the canyons.

It would be interesting if we could have a look at the world before Noah's Flood. Even a quick look would be interesting.

Gen 7:11 - Not sure what "fountains of the great deep" mean. Seems like it is something in the ocean [It is amazing how much water is underground even now]

Yes, noticing how water seems to stand out in scripture from Genesis Chapter 1. Fountains of the great deep was mentioned earlier.

Gen 9:1 - God blessed Noah and his sons Gen 9:2 - God permits eating living things (meat) [Yay!]

Feeling is mutual😂

GN 9:6. “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed.” Capital punishment is appropriate for capital crimes

I noted this verse too but didn't post it because I know it will be discussed more throughout the Bible. I have not read about it in the New Testament. What defines capital crimes? I have to read the entire book to find it out and have a view on capital punishment in terms of government and His Word.

Gen 9:29 - Noah died at 950 years old. He lived longer than Adam who lived to 930 years old. It was stated previously that God walked with Noah. Noah saw the Lord and was the most righteous of his generation.

Apologies, I misspoke here. I was thinking of Abram when I stated that Noah saw the Lord. I had read some chapters ahead before posting this. The other statements are true about Noah.

Gen 10:22 - It states the "children" of Shem instead of "sons." The children of Shem are Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram [My translation still says "sons".]

It states "children" again following this verse. I was wondering if any of them were daughters but haven't researched it yet.

Gen 10:25 - The earth was divided in the days of Peleg son of Eber. [curious; what promoted the writer to say that?] Eber is son of Arphaxad who is son of Shem.

Same, that is why I took note

I'm not sure what is meant by " the biblical teaching." What I can say is that I believe in God's Word.
Gen 12:7 - "And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the Lord, who appeared unto him." It is stated twice in one verse that the Lord appeared unto Abram. This stood out to me and was marked in my notes

What makes reading the Bible more fun is to connect dots, sew OT & NT Scripture together, making notes in the margins as you go.

In my case, this is my first read from Genesis to Revelation. I do not have the knowledge of what is ahead in scripture like you do. I will get there in due time💪

Capital crimes per the Bible strictly speaking would fall under the rubric, "life for life", meaning "execution for murder".

Nice work on the lifelong commitment! I initially want to do 10 chapters a day to finish in about 4 months, but it seems it was too much for most. Since it's really only 3 of us, it you want to increase it to 10 or more let me know!!

LoL! Bless your heart. A similar thing happened to me back in 2014. Someone in SoCal tried to interest me in their cult. If anyone randomly invites you to Bible Study in public run!😂

I realize this isn't an ice cream study social (although, I kinda wish it was )

What is this?

Genesis 7 - I believe Noah's Flood greatly changed the topography of Earth, resulting in mountains, canyons, etc.

I'd suspect this too. I forgot to mention on @GHW 's thread that I agreed with them on these verses. I actually looked up cubit to feet and height of Mount Everest. Wanted an idea on the size of the ark and how high the flood water were.

I wonder how modern-day man determined what was a cubit converted to foot. When you look up cubit to feet, it is an estimation, therefore, there is a chance that their estimation could be extremely off

Genesis 8 - What I find touching and inspiring about this chapter is the Noah sent out the birds and when the dove came back with an olive branch he knew the water was abated. And then he uncovered the Ark and seen the dry land. But, he did not leave the Ark. He stayed until God told him to he could leave the Ark. It's important that we wait on the Lord's guidance.

Yes, I could take notes from Noah on his obedience

Another thing I like about this chapter is that God promises that as long as the Earth exists there will always be day and night, seasons will always change, and crops will always grow food.

Thankful for this promise from God as well

Genesis 9 - The part of this chapter involving the scene between Noah and Ham has been debated for ages. I've looked into some viewpoints on this occurrence, but I don't solidly espouse to any one of the viewpoints, except that it was a shameful act that led to Ham's son being cursed.

Not sure what has been debated. From what I read, Ham called his brothers to look at his father's nakedness. That is definitely the opposite of honoring his father. The act of his brothers when they came honored Noah. He should have covered his father's nakedness like his brothers did. Ham should have not called his brothers to look upon his nakedness.

Genesis 10 - I don't have much to say about this chapter, except I think Nimrod is an interesting character.

I don't know about Nimrod, looking forward to learning about him😀

Something to consider as you begin Old Testament

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. … And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:1-4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the New testament fits in that structure but is revealing something more about the beginning

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”

The advice is appreciated🙏

Regarding Noah's Flood, I wonder if the continents at one time were only barely above sea level, and plate tectonics uplifted the mountains and the receding flood water caused the canyons.
Was curious about the flood too. I actually looked up cubit to feet and the height of Mount Everest. Wanted an idea on the size of the ark and how high the flood waters were.

I wonder how modern-day man determined what was the conversion of a cubit to a foot. When you look up cubit to feet, it is an estimation, therefore, there is a chance that their estimation could be extremely off. Would need to know the exact measurements in that time to draw a realistic picture.

Learning what I'm learning now, very thankful as well!
I'm glad I'm not alone!

EDM ...electronic dance music?

Yes😀
I have very limited experience with EDM. May I ask what is an EDM song you'd recommend for someone who is practically a first time listener?

I realize this isn't an ice cream study social (although, I kinda wish it was )

What is this?
An ice cream social is where you eat ice cream and socialize. I know of some churches that do this after the sermon. I called it ice cream study social since we are studying the Bible.

There are some other viewpoints. TMI, but some believe there was a homosexual action/component that took place due to the wording chosen. I'm not saying I espouse to that viewpoint, I'm just saying that it is one of the viewpoints out there that exists for explaining that particular part of Noah's story.

I don't know about Nimrod, looking forward to learning about him😀
I look forward to doing a refresher on Nimrod. I'll try to bring my notes here after I do (virtually speaking).

Nice work on the lifelong commitment! I initially wanted to do 10 chapters a day to finish reading the Bible in about 4 months, but it seems it was too much for most. Since it's really only 3 of us, if you want to increase it to 10 or more let me know!!
Thank you! We could try doing 10 chapters a day and see how it works out.

I'll calculate the time it will take...
Reading 10 chapters a day will take approximately 118 days after today.
118 days from now is March 8.

GENESIS CHAPTER 13 NOTES

Gen 13:2 - Abram gained riches from Egypt

Gen 13:4 - Abram returns to the area of land where the Lord made a promise to him

Gen 13:6 - Lot also gained riches from Egypt. The land could not contain all that Lot and Abram gained out of Egypt. Nice problem to have😂 Amazing work of the Lord!

Gen 13:7 - Strife between Lot's and Abram's men occurred

Gen 13:9 - Abram is patient, peaceful, and humble

Gen 13:10 - "And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as -thou comest unto Zoar." - Jordan was well watered before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.

Gen 13:11 - Lot chose to move to the plain of Jordan

Gen 13:13 - "But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly." - wicked and sinners, exceedingly- these words really describe how bad it was

Gen 13:14-15 - The Lord promises Abram land again. He states it is Abram's and his seed's land forever - This makes me think of the war that is going on now and how it may relate

Gen 13:16 - that is a lot of seeds!😂

I can give you some EDM artists to look up - Kygo, Avicii (he passed away), Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta (Hit or miss for me because he features a lot of mainstream artists), and Marshmello. Search EDM on Spotify or Apple Music and you'll have a large selection to sift through to see what you like or don't like. I favor music that doesn't have mainstream featured artists or words in them. The beat has to be nice too😀

I see, thanks!
