The Catholic church and the popes burning all the books and those who printed them certainly didn't make reading the bible any more affordable for those poor peasants.
Not only so but the printing press and translation of the Bible into the common tongue is what brought about the Protestant revolution. They prohibited the reading of the Bible because the Bible condemned the practices of the Catholic church.

The Catholics were on shaky grounds once they started accepting Protestants, which led way to accepting other beliefs.

I saw John Paul the 2nd up close actually back in 94-95, i don't remember.
I was a 16 year old kid back then and i was going to the Orthodox Church to study the Bible.
We were laughing with the protection that the Pope was getting and we were joking if the US president or the Pope has better protection.
Because even back then he was traveling with a bulleproof glass in a car.

Granted he survived an assassination attempt from a Turkish guy somewhere in the late 80s and i guess the institution didn't want to lose a Pope in the middle of public view, but still it was funny to us.

When he says they worship the same God then that means he does not recognize that Jesus is God. No matter how you cut it that word is a denial of Jesus' divinity. That means he also denies the incarnation.
You are sadly mistaken if you think I am a papist.

This makes me wonder how long it's been since P'Francis has opened his Bible.
Acts 17:23
For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

You are sadly mistaken if that is how you understood my post.
I was not sure how to understand your post. You often say one thing and mean quite another.

But I did want to make sure you do not think me a papist. That would be weird.
