Ecc 9:5-6
The dead know nothing....

5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. 6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.

Eze 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. ....

The teaching that the soul does not die and lives forever is not in the bible
Life is given by God and we do not have life of ourselves (we don't make our own life), life is a gift.

This is a cool question and I think I've got a decent awnser.
have you ever seen someone die? Or the way they act in the days before
That's when it starts. In your final days you will begin to see spirits a lot of the time your family. The next thing that happens is you die physically and your spirit leaves your body so what's next? Sheoul? Heaven? Hell? Judgement? The bible BRIEFLY talks about sheoul and for that reason I believe it may be a sort of metaphor for just temporarily not existing like a sort of limbo. We know people go to heaven or hell because within scriptures Jesus visits hell for 3 days, and God brings all the people out of hell after the death of Christ.
So what I believe happens is your out in heaven or hell until the rapture and judgement day when the real decision is made for your soul

The only real answer to this question must come from the Bible, because no one else knows for sure—apart from the Bible. Everyone has an OPINION! But they are not worth much. You certainly can’t stake your soul on an opinion; there are so many and they are so different.
Proverbs 23:18 says, “SURELY THERE IS A HEREAFTER.” Again, Ecclesiastes 3:11, says that GOD HAS PUT ETERNITY IN OUR HEARTS.
Romans 11:15-WHAT WILL THEIR ACCEPTANCE BE BUT LIFE AFTER DEATH. The Bible teaches that there is life after death.
Only one time does God give us a picture of what happens to us after death and that is in Luke 16. Many people THINK this is a parable, but I don’t agree. First because the Lord did not say so, and second because one of the people in the story has a name—Lazarus. I believe God is giving us a glimpse of what happens to us immediately after death. There are two main people in this story: a rich man and a beggar named Lazarus. The rich man is rich in material things but not rich toward God. Lazarus sits just outside the rich man’s house begging for food but the rich man seems to ignore him. He does not offer him any help whatsoever. The rich man shows no compassion, no generosity, no love toward those who are in need.
In the story, Lazarus dies first. And God says that the ANGELS carry his soul into a place of “paradise”. Abraham is there. It says that Lazarus is being “comforted” after living a painful life as a beggar.
Then the rich man dies. All it says about him is that when he opened his eyes again after death, he was in a place of torment. He looks (up?). And sees Lazarus with Abraham ( Abraham was a beloved ancestor (father) of the Jewish people.). He calls out to Abraham and asks him to send Lazarus down to him with a “drop of water” for his tongue because he is in anguish in flames. But Abraham replies that he cannot do that because there is a “great gulf “ between where he is and where the rich man is. He said no one can cross over from one side to the other. Then the rich man asks Abraham to send Lazarus back from the dead to warn his 5 brothers who are still living on earth, so that they will not come to the place where he, the rich man, is. But Abraham says, no. They have the scriptures (Old Testament). If they won’t listen to the scriptures, they won’t listen to someone that comes back from the dead.
There are so many lessons and “truths” that we can glean from this story. Remember Jesus is the one who tells the story. Does Jesus lie? No, never. So I have no doubt the story is true, even if it is a parable.
The word hades means the “unseen world of the dead.” It seems that all souls go there when they die. From this story it seems that Hades is divided into 2 parts—a place of paradise where Abraham is and a place of torment. Ecclesiastes 12:7 says that “the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the Spirit will return to God who gave it.” God is the one who will decide in which place your spirit (soul) will go. This seems to be the place all souls wait until the second coming of Christ and the end of the world. Then there will be a judgement of everyone who has ever lived—good and bad. Everyone will be judged by “the things written in the books (the Bible). Revelation 20:12. If you have never read chapters 20-22 of Revelation, you really need to read them. But keep in mind that the book is symbolic in nature and you can’t take all the numbers and symbols as real. Many times they are just symbols for something real. But the judgement scene and the descriptions of heaven and hell we can understand.
There is not a lot of scripture that tells us what will happen after death, but there is enough for us to get a pretty good idea. We just need to be careful to stick with what the Bible tells us and not let our imaginations run wild.

If your loved ones are in heaven and are seeing us here on Earth suffering, heaven would be a living hell.

How do explan the bible verses that say the dead know nothing.

Be careful because the newage teaching is very much founded on the principle that the soul does not die.

Eze 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

The first lie of the devil was ....
Gen 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
The first lie and the lie that caused all of mankind to fall.

I'm curious, but where does your belief about the soul sleep fit when Jesus met Moses and Elijah at the mountain?
Was that too 'New Age' for year 32?

The conversation between the rich man and Abraham was a special miracle God did to teach the lesson/ doctrine Jesus explained...

There are a lot of people who talk to the dead. That's called necromancy, particularly when asking them to reveal hidden knowledge.
Just last night someone shared their opinion that our dead loved ones stick around for a week or two to spend time with us. I didn't correct them because I had already talked a couple hours and was ready to get off the phone.

However, the verse that came to mind for the saved is, 2 Corinthians 5
8We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

Let me try to answer this. Luke 16 gives us a parable of Lazarus and the rich man. When they died both went to paradise but were divided by a great gulf. Lazarus on one side, the rich man in torment on the other side. Consider that when we all die we go to paradise. Those that accepted Christ as savior are on one side of the gulf. Those that have rejected Christ are on the other side of the gulf in torment because they now see the God they rejected is very real. In the near future, Christ will return to earth and set up his millennial kingdom and reign for a thousand years. During this time, God's word will be taught to all those that were deceived by Antichrist and false doctrines that led them astray. They will be tested at the end of the millennium when Satan is released for a short season. People will make a decision to either follow God or Satan. At the White Throne Judgement, all those that followed Satan will be snuffed out in the lake of fire. Those that accepted God will go into the eternity with a rejuvenated earth and all things made new.

In truth we can speculate but in truth we do not know. No one has come back from the dead except Jesus to tell us. So, in reality no one can be certain. We know what we hope!!

Luke chapter 16. Jesus taught two sides of the Gulf. One side is paradise. And other side is sheol. Richman ended up in sheol, called hell. It's holding place for the wicked until judgment Day. Lazarus went to paradise. When person dies in the flesh, Jesus decides what side of the Gulf person goes to.
