A well-known Pentecostal preacher once stated, 'There's a Traitor in the Camp and it's our feelings.'' Admitting, many Christians base their relationship to Christ on their feelings, rather than on the Word of God.'' As I recall, the point of that message was our goal for discernment, which many of us aspire to, do. But, sensitivity to this doesn't have to be a tough call to acheive. His focus? The same we have been hearing, 1. A prayer life and 2. Time in the WOG. Except, there remains evidence to the contrary, I'm not there yet, but the Helper is near. :)

In biblical times the word love was not just an emotion. That is a Greek concept, not Hebrew. The word Love also holds a strong connotation of action. To "Love our neighbor..." was much more than to just holding him in fondness, it means doing and caring and helping and supporting, even feeding. Yeshua's brother says the same thing. To love your savior surely means to learn his ways and to pray, but then to go and do.

Like me, many may yet be drinking spiritual milk. My contributions small. That's no excuse. I have frequently found myself looking so intently into the word that I miss what He would have me do.

I agree...many of us Christians equate an emotional episode to an encounter with God or emotions or feelings affecting our thoughts pattern as hearing from God ...we are not objective at all but more subjective ...this is so true ...this post reminds me of as a young Christian if I didn't feel tears in my eyes or bawl my eyes out I would feel like I didn't encounter God on that particular Sunday or prayer day or my prayer didn't reach ....wow...how far He has brought me ..glory to God .

To not feel have feelings is to not be human. Why do you think so many people turn to drugs and alcohol, its to numb these feelings.
It we didn't have feelings, then we'd be a robot.

In the midst of their despair, "some" turn to God.

God does not change despite your feelings. Yes, but God is God and you are not God. So yes, you will have feeling, doubt, anger, love, hate, and everything in between.

My 10 year old child got ran over by a truck = I feel devastated and sad.
Does God love you less than before? Of course not. Will you be angry that it happened and conflicted even with God on why it happened? I bet you will!

My dear 'jacko', the whole thread, yes, the Church itself here is humbled for our inability to convey appropriate comfort to you and everyone else for that immense loss, quite certain, trauma fails miserably. May the Savior lead you all through this ordeal as only He can!

Some 25-yrs I recall working with the sister of a mother of twin girls, one of which was also run over by the mother's own employer who was delivering her payroll to her at her house. The horror happened after pulling up into the drive, jumped out, handed her the check and did not see the 9-yr old kneel down at the rear of the car. The sister informed the mother I was the shop artist/mechanic and was asked to do a painting of ''Bani'' by the family. ''Tracy'', the mother insisted on compensating me for the work or not do it at all. The welcomed task was to paint the departed child in the clouds in Jesus' arms to which went directly into the dinning room. A task I will remember till the day He takes me home.

Ok, but that was just an example, but appreciate the thought and prayers anyways. My loss was a different kind of loss, but it hurt nonetheless.

Oh, so the life of the child was spared? Just injuries? That's quite bad enough. Praying.

One could call this goal, the Christian's truly first big step in securing that capacity the Nun described. Discernment, being a crucial element for the Father's advancement. (Heb 6:1)
