I have a friend who has tried many different churches and , each time they join a different church , that church requires them to b re baptized . What do u all think of this ? Do u have any scriptural references to back up what u think ? Thanks in advance 😁 .

There is only one baptism that matters. The baptism of Christ.

Acts 19 esv
3And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John’s baptism.” 4And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.” 5On hearing this, they were baptized inb the name of the Lord Jesus.

Ephesians 4:5-6
King James Version

5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all

(So as long as one has been baptized in the Biblical Jesus Christ and not the Jesus of a false religion then only one matters. And it only matters as an act of obedience and not a salvational issue.)

I think it's okay to be water baptized more than once. Some of my friends have done that when they make a new church their home church.

I've only been water baptized once. When I have a new home church, I don't get water baptized again and attend the church without becoming an official member.

I don't think there's a problem with repeated baptisms of that nature.

Some denominational churches baptized new members as a rite that brings the believer into their fold.
Baptism in our faith was first the Mikvah, ritual cleansing, practiced by the Jews.

No worries,imo. :)

Churches shouldn't require rebaptism for new members. A previous baptism should be universally accepted among the Christian churches.
My problem is that I moved around several times through different states and have lost the certificate for my water baptism which happened a long time ago. I couldn't even show proof if I wanted to be a member of a church that would accept proof of water baptism.

As a rule I wouldn't get baptized more than once. Congregations that require baptism to become a member should be marked and avoided; there's no scriptural authority for that whatsoever. The only exception I can think of might be if someone was "christened" as a baby. That's not a real baptism.

I guess only the individual knows what's in his or her heart at the time they were baptized, and their motivation. There may be times when a second baptism is called for; but I wouldn't do it just because a congregation says you have to if you want to join. And I'd be careful about using baptism as a way to "clear the slate" and start fresh; some people who do this may get baptized many times, and that's not Biblical either.

The only exception is when the person was baptized as an infant rather than as a profession of faith in Christ.
This is why the first Baptists were called Anabaptists or rebaptizers, because many were converts from Roman Catholicism.

There is only one water baptism and one baptism by fire.

That is completely unbiblical and sectarian in nature.

The bible teaches there is only one baptism. No need to get rebaptized if the first one was done via immersion in water.

  • Matthew 3:11: "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:"

Acts 1:5
“John baptized you with water,” he reminded them, “but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit in just a few days.”

Acts 2:38
And Peter replied, “Each one of you must turn from sin, return to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; then you also shall receive this gift, the Holy Spirit.

noting the above: States shall receive the Holy Spirit as we are all now in the risen Son called to be in and freely given as Father chooses, knowing each person's motive.

then Peter saw deeper
  1. 1 Peter 3:16
having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
In Context | Full Chapter | Other Translations
  2. 1 Peter 3:21
The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Water Baptism preceded, God Father's Spirit Baptism thanks. Each person knows within themselves if they are saved or not by God or not. All know, once anyone comes to see truth as truth from God through Son to them too. Then each decide from within themselves truth over error here in this world still, thanks (Col 1:21-23)
For all will know and all will bow, whether another person believes truth given by God to us all through Son as risen or not
I believe, I see and have chosen and see Romans 8:15-16 as everyone else does too, thank you.
Lots to learn from everyone and everything, whether it be good or bad. Taking everything to Father, Daddy, PaPa in prayer to receive Truth over any errors I have adopted in hearing things and reading things of my own accord as well as others also.
One Faith, One Baptism, One Lord, I see to rest right there in Thanksgiving and praise all sin taken away as far as the east is from the west today and forever in Son for me and all the people born after Adam and Eve who failed in Unbelief. Then by belief of the second Adam Jesus in English, we get saved in standing in trust to PaPa through risen Son for me at least. Baptized in God's Spirit and Truth, thank you
John 4:23-24, John 19:30, Hebrews 9:14-17

I Completely disagree. Paedobaptism is just as valid.

Sooooooo.....based on the individual answers u have all given me , what would u say to someone if , they had been baptized into/ by a particular denomination and then , as their understand grew , they felt as if that denomination was very inaccurate in their doctrines or beliefs . This might make the person feel that their baptism wasn't valid , if they no longer believed the same things as the denomination they were baptized by/ into . What would u do if u had been baptized but some time later u felt that the denomination that baptized u was spurious in its doctrines/ beliefs , would u still feel that your baptism by them was valid ?

I've been to various church denominations throughout my life. but this is after I was baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire. When you are baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire, it doesn't matter what church you visit, cause you now have Christ residing in you. Ultimately, the Holy Spirit will guide you out of places, people and situations that are not of God's will. It's kinda like being on autopilot.

Thanks for your reply , so if I'm reading u right , what u mean is that it doesn't actually matter which denomination baptizes a person , if it's done in faith then it's just fine and that's that .

there's no need to be baptized more than twice. notice i didn't say once. why? Christian parents will get their babies baptized. 1 reason is they don't know if their babies will pass on as babies so they feel comfortable baptizing them. so when said babies reach the age of accountability, that is, they understand what the purpose of baptism is, they will get baptized a 2nd time.
