I have a friend who has tried many different churches and , each time they join a different church , that church requires them to b re baptized . What do u all think of this ? Do u have any scriptural references to back up what u think ? Thanks in advance 😁 .
Do they understand what baptism is and why we do it ? That should be a pre cursor for choosing to get baptized in Jesus name.
Maybe they think you’re supposed to get baptized if you join a church and no one’s ever told them what the Bible says we get baptized for and what it means ?
it should be an informed choice we make if we believe
Jesus died for our sins
was buried and
rose again the third day on our behalf for our justification before God , but often people get baptized on bad information
maybe they don’t know what baptism is because no one ever explained it from the Bible is my point I’ve probably overstated.
We need to hear the gospel and believe what we are hearing , no prooof or anything just the ordained message we are hearing particularly , the
foundational belief of our common Christian faith.
“Moreover, brethren,
I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
For I delivered unto you
first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
and
that he was buried,
and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV
Every
Christian needs to start there with that message . My point to your post is then regarding baptism we need to hear about that also according to scripture such as this remember Paul said “ if you keep in mind what I preached to you “
when we get baptized
“Know ye not, that
so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death:
that
like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
remember he died and was buried and rose baptism is our response to believing it and it then includes us with him in it in tbat single act of faith responding to the gospel message of Christ we then get baptized
in his name who died and rose again on our behalf who believe )
For
if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death,
( that’s why we confess faith in Jesus and are buried beneath the water in Jesus name and raised up again from beneath the water in his name in the likeness of his death burial and resurrection )
we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
For
he that is dead is freed from sin. Likewise
reckon ( believe )
ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin,
but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 6:3-7, 11 KJV
my whole point is if we don’t know what baptism is for and act upon it knowingly believing the message it’s not going to offer the faith as if we do hear about what it is for and believe what’s being taught by Paul there .
So it’s sort of important what the person knows about baptism could simply be uninformed zeal and they just think we do it when we join a church maybe
in another place is states the new life part and new identity and inheritance of a new family line regarding baptism
“For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
Galatians 3:26-29 KJV
In a other place it’s called the circumcision of Christ that removes our sins but it’s talking about the same concept of our sins being removed through his death again baptism is what’s being taught
“in whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;”
Colossians 2:11-13 KJV
theres more but it’s the concept of remission of our sins by that belief and action of faith in response
“Then Peter said unto them,
Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even
as many as the Lord our God shall call.”
Acts 2:38-39 KJV
If a person really believed what he’s preaching of course we’d get baptized and be acting by faith because we believed we would receive the promise ….
If we know something and understand it or if we don’t is very different to God regarding accountability.
