It was incredibly graphic showing how brutal crucifixions were, and what
our Lord went through due to His great and everlasting love for us...
And the actor that played the part of Jesus suffered greatly during and also after filming.

He took the role knowing he'd likely never work in Hollywood again. He was right.

However, the movie changed lives and I think was worth the price.

imdb (<= link) shows him in almost twenty roles since then (not counting 3 others in 2004).

Hollywood hates Gibson because Gibson doesnt need hollywood. I heard something about working with Gibson hurting actors chances for getting hollywood roles.

Just forget it. You all used this forum post to judge me.

I was saying that the movie, and people watching it, used it for the pleasure of watching Jesus get beat. And what all did was attack my faith.
Why would this be your conclusion as to why the movie grossed mega millions in boxoffice just on the domestic receipts alone?

Maybe consider people wanted to see a movie about Jesus that showed him speaking in Aramaic instead of English. Maybe we wanted to see the Biblical story portrayed as it occurred. Which would be brutal and show what Jesus suffered for us so that we would suffer no more.

Think from the heart of your faith in him. Not the worldly idea that is born from the Tempter.

I saw it. Twice. Firstly with my (then) gf. She decided she wanted them to see it, as well. She asked me to take them because she couldn't handle it again. So I took them to see it as well.
I've not even tried to watch it since. It is a difficult movie to get through.
I can tell you neither time I went was it for the enjoyment of watching Christ get beat. Neither did my gf.
When I've read the Bible I've had a hard time fleshing things out. Seeing something like this really helped me flesh out the crucifixion story.

It wouldn't surprise me.

When this movie was about to premier our area news reported local synagogue members were planning a protest.

Sure enough, there they were. Signs accusing Antisemitism, calling Mr Gibson an Antisemite. They even had printed pamphlets to hand out.

These gave details to support their claims against the movie. Interestingly those handed out at the theater I attended were the size of Christian tracts. Horrible stuff.

As they say,forewarned is forearmed.

Before going to the theater I bought large print KJV Bibles from the local Dollar Tree. And next door to their store was a Waldens.

I put the Bibles in a backpack I carried across my chest. And added to each one free bookmarks from the local bookstore and used those to mark the start of the crucifixion story of Jesus.

As the protesters started trying to hand out their phamplets, I took them and gave each protester a Bible in exchange.

I loved that movie. I have the DVD and the soundtrack CD.

I don't know how a people call attendees of the movie Antisemitic when Jesus was a Jew. And the crucifixion story is a globally recognized account of history in a religious peoples holy book.

If your ancestors didn't want their story told? Then they shouldn't have made a history for their future offspring to have to answer for. Because your first century ancestors demanded Roman authorities kill God!

The bookstore bookmarks were blank on one side. :) Writers cramp heals.
And it was worth every minute to write that on every bookmark I put in every Bible I handed out.

Yes the Jews made a big deal denying history. Liberals whined about Gibsons movie The Patriot, crying about how 13 year old boys were killing red coats. That is how it was but they didnt like it.

I watched it. I didn't watch it to take pleasure in seeing Jesus get beat. I'm sure a lot of others didn't take pleasure in watching Jesus get beat when they watched the movie. Is it possible that maybe you're wrong about that?
Indeed, I found the film really made what Christ went through for us resonate. The torture and suffering He bore made me not take pleasure, rather it made me feel close to His Person, that He loved us that much.
