John 1:12 says - "But as many as received him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name."

The phrase "received him" is sometimes taken as a passive reception of Jesus. In actuality, the Greek verb is in the active voice, and I would suggest that we could read the phrase as "as many as actively grabbed hold of him" -- this is then set as being true of those who "believe on His name."

This question comes from a different thread and the question was asked to me by GENEZ, and I felt it deserved a separate thread.

How does one develop a deeply rooted faith in Jesus? Stories, Scriptures, thoughts, are all appreciated here.

One example is the woman who had a haemorrage. She touched Jesus' garment in spite of her condition. She was desperate as the medical profession of the time were of no help (Luke 8:43-48).

And that is the secret of knowing Christ better. We need to "press in", so to speak, spend time with Jesus, enter the most holy place and come with confidence to the throne of grace. Don't forget that you have no righteousness of your own. Never forget that you have a far better righteousness, that which is of Christ.

We need much more than a mental knowledge of God's word. It has to be real to us. The reality of what we believe is proven to us by experience. We may that we trust the Lord, but what if He asks us to do something we fear to do? What if we face illness, loss of a job or relationship issues?

When faced with problems, the answer is always to draw near to Jesus, not to hide from Him. We should be honest and confess our weaknesses and inability to cope. Then we will stand back and see the glory of the Lord as He steps in to resolve our problems. Cast your care on Him, no matter what. And then leave the burden with Him. Never get complacent. That surely leads to trouble.

I have 50 years of trouble, failure, defeat and God's mercy and grace to draw on. Many things that would have devastated me decades ago I just brush off. That is solely by the grace of God. And God has not finished His work in me yet. I'm still a work in progress.

by proclaiming Jesus Christ as your personal savior. by becoming a born again Christian ( John 3:5 ) & being regenerated ( Titus 3:5 ) by the Holy Spirit in the salvation experience. a new nature is received & you are now transformed ( Romans 12:2 ) by the renewing of your mind. you will no longer think, speak & act as the world does but like Jesus does. you will recognize sin as soon as you commit it & will desire to stop sinning & forsake sinning. while ALWAYS growing in grace & in knowledge of our Lord & savior, Jesus Christ. frame this word in your condition response forever: "OBEDIENCE"!!!

John 6:44
King James Version

44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Ephesians 2:8-9
King James Version

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

If you don't actually believe in Jesus I would pray to God that he give you faith in him and draw you to him. As far as I know it is the work of the Father and the Spirit that someone believes in Jesus. The Father draws someone and someone is "born of the spirit" when they believe in him. I don't know if someone can will themselves to faith in Jesus as it says in Ephesians 2:8 the faith is the gift of God. What happened for me is that I was reciting John 3:17 and I was reciting it a bit peculiarly and it caught my attention and I realized what I was reciting. I may have come to faith in him before that though. The issue is whether or not you believe he is a historical person and that the events in his life are true. It might really help to hear the gospel from someone who believes in him, then you are getting someone's first hand word on the issue which you can believe with certainty.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

The one book that God designated for the lost in order to be saved is the gospel of John.

31But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
John 20

You already quoted the clear way someone is born into the family, become a son of God; that's by believing on His Name.
The King James Bible translators were correct the 100 times the word believe is stated as the only proper response to the gospel.
There's no life outside of that clear requirement.

Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.

Hearing God’s Word imparts knowledge of the Truth to us and the Holy Spirit gives us the understanding of the Truth which gives us Faith - an undeniable knowing of rock solid absolute Truth.

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Faith knows Truth that is seen and Truth that is not seen… it’s a rock solid unshakable knowing of Truth imparted to us by God’s Word and God’s Holy Spirit.

The scriptures say that faith comes by hearing the word of God. Romans 10:17. So I would advise spending time listening to sermons, studying the scriptures—particularly Matthew, mark, Luke, and John. These are about the life of Christ—his teachings, parables, miracles, life, death and resurrection. —-and prayer. The Bible is how God talks to us and prayer is how we talk to God. As with any relationship, the depth of that relationship depends on how much time you are willing to put into it.

I have been sharing my testimony about being raised by Christian parents to love Jesus from infancy,
and the Scripture I share in this regard is 2Tim. 3:15-17.

When we read the Bible, we ask God to help us see in scripture an ever greater revelation of the character and behaviour of Jesus that makes Him more and more worthy in our eyes of our praise, allegiance and service. We don't look for rules to live by. We look for a Person to spend your life with and for.

“All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:27-30‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I think if we do what he’s saying here he’s able to begin changing our mind and heart concerning God and ourselves

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

When we begin to listen to Jesus word we hear the right things for instance

Of course the gospel teaches us Jesus is the only begotten son of God bit to those who come to and listen to him he’s imparting tbat to them who hear and believe him

“And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭23:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“for the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.”
‭‭John‬ ‭16:27‬ ‭

the thing is as we begin to listen we hear what he came to tell us and we begin to think understand that God is fornus and not against us he’s calling us to come near not commanding us to stay away anymore .

If we spend some time listening to Jesus it’s going to lead to a relationship with him according to the truth he came to speak

Yes, and as we LGW our spirit becomes one with the mind of Christ,
so that we remain filled with his love and reflect divine love to His world.

For me , I had to get to know exactly who Jesus is and this could only b done by reading and re reading the Bible . When a person has not been brought up in the Truth , they can have preconceptions , I did and they were all shattered by the actual Truth , the Bible , the Living Word . To truly love someone , u must get to know them , well . I'm still learning and imagine that will b the case for the rest of my life , it's a wonderful journey . I believe that God works in every single person's life , wether they r aware of it or not . As I learned about God and Jesus , I started to c them , in my life and in the lives of others . This has slowly increased my faith in them , which increases my love for them and hopefully this will also continue for all the days of my life . Jesus learned obedience by the thing's he suffered , I think that applies to us all as well . As we suffer and lean on our Lord , the more aware we become of his care for us so , our faith in and love for him should grow . No one loves us more than God and Jesus does . They only ever want what's best for us and , only They actually know what's best for us . All we have to do is trust Them .

For me, developing a deep faith in Jesus has been a mix of spending time reading the Bible, praying honestly, and seeing how God shows up in everyday life. Like Romans 10:17 says, "Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ." So, the more you get into His Word, the more faith grows.

amen there’s no substitute for prayerful study of the scriptures

“and that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭3:15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:24‬ ‭

If our faith comes from seeking him in his word and is built upon what we learn prayerfully asking the author of salvation to help us understand , he will . May God bless your studies

There have been a lot of good answers given here: I think one of the core requirements is realizing our need for a Redeemer, for a Friend, and for Master who loves us deeply. Our Western mindset tends to be very individualistic; then then results in personal pride. God resists the proud but draws nigh unto the humble (James 4).

For me, just simply time alone with God is so precious . . . I need Him more than I need entertainment, the Internet, or other pursuits of the world.

The more we have gained accurate, sound doctrine, the more the Holy Spirit is at liberty to make use of us in our lives.

The more accurate sound knowledge and understanding we enter into, the more we can claim we have in our possession the mind of Christ being operational.
But be continuously growing in the grace and experiential knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. 2 Peter 3:18

Sad to say.
Jesus did not lie.
Only a few find it.

Don't look to find many following you.
It is not a popularity contest....

A lot of great Scripture references in many posts but it paints a very clear picture.

1. God manifests Himself to us

2. That's usually by hearing the Gospel preached.

3. Once we hear and feel the Call of God we fulfill the original verse John 1:12.

God initiated new life in risen Son for us all to stand in Col 1:21-23 God by Son made us not have to do to be in. God gave a gift of unfathomable love to the first born flesh. Those that God knows that are sincere, Gods reveals the depth to each one personally, between God and them personally, these are born new John 4:23-24 by God for them and it can and does take a while to see through the veil. Yet whoever does not quit, eventually sees through it too, thank you
