Hi Friends, I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I love learning about Jesus and striving to follow His teachings in my life. I have learned that the more I follow His teachings and strive to follow Him, the better my life is in every way. Has anyone else has this same experience in their life? Does anyone have any questions for a Jesus loving Mormon?

It's funny that you joined today.
A friend told me last week that he was going to get a Book of Mormon so he could have a copy of other bibles.
That reminded me that I had a copy in my library that I highlighted and wrote down questions in the margins.

To learn more, I found this short animation and was wondering if you think it is accurate?

Thanks for coming. I have no doubt about the sincerity of many, if not most, Mormons. However, Mormonism is contrary to God's word. The Jesus that Mormonism proclaims is a different Jesus from the Jesus of the Bible.

It's subtle, but the basis for salvation in Mormonism is also contrary to God's word. Mormonism adds works to grace. A lot of Christians would make good Mormons because they also add works to grace. That does not make it right.

My life has been utterly transformed, but not by my own efforts and works. Salvation is still God's business. My only contribution was to get out of God's way.

The Mormon concept of God is contrary to God's word. Our Bible says that God is Spirit, Mormons claim that God has a physical body.

There are many differences of understanding that Christians generally reject. When we dig even deeper into Mormonism's claims, there is even greater divergence.

I went to a lot of different churches growing up and was wondering what is required to go to Heaven when I die. I had already had many close calls by the time I was a teenager.
Perhaps you have that question too.

Every church I recall told us we had to do good works to get to Heaven. Living a life of good works certainly improves our lives in so many ways: However, do good works and clean lifestyle pay for sins?

One day a man knocked on my door and cared enough to show me from the Bible where I had been mistaken. We all know that Jesus paid for ALL of our sins, past present and future. He suffered crucifixion on the cross, was buried in the tomb and arose the third day.
The part that I was confused about was my part. What did I have to do to be saved?

Some churches led me to believe that I had to do good works, sacraments, quit sinning, clean up my life, get baptized, etc. Those are all good works.
The man who visited me cared enough to show where I was wrong from the Bible.

Ephesians 2:8
8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Grace is God's kindness that we do not earn or deserve.
Faith is a trust spoken about in John 3:16 KJV and uses the word believe. Jesus is the sole Object of that trust and it's not in ourselves.
Salvation is the gift from God.
God the Father so loved the world that HE GAVE His only begotten Son.
The Son gave His life in atonement for our sins, not we ourselves.
We receive it by His grace through faith in Jesus.
Salvation is not earned by any of our works.
I am so very grateful that he shared that important fact with me. I had the cart before the horse. I was misled to think growing up that all the commands in the Bible applied to salvation when in fact we all have broken many commands.
Revelation 21:8 KJV lists sins like fear and lying as those who shall go to the Lake of Fire and Brimstone. Those people were trusting in their own ways to be saved and as sincere as they were, they were sincerely wrong.
Salvation from sins and the consequences of going to Hell has been paid in full. How do we receive that gift that Jesus paid for? It is told to us exactly 100 times in the gospel of John. Believe is the word. The only Object of that is Who?

Welcome, you are choosing a more difficult path than some people choose. But my questions for a Mormon would all center around genealogy not theology. I know my father's side had some individuals who became Mormon and traveled west, I suspect that some of the missing lines in my mother's side also joined.

Yes, I was raised in the church, but I established my personal testimony of the truthfulness of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ in my later teen years.

I am first a follow of Jesus Christ. I love him and strive to follow His teachings and implement them in my life. The Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints to me seems to be the most consistent to the church that Jesus Christ established when He was on earth and that's why I'm a member.

I actually love this topic. And I think there's a lot of confusion around it. So in my church, we believe just like you said, that we are saved by grace. Period. We believe that everyone who comes to this earth will be resurrected, meaning their bodies will be reunited with their Spirit's and they will live again after they die, because of God's grace. We also believe in degrees of glory. Meaning there are different levels of glory a person can be resurrected to based on their mortal agency. Think of it as individuals get to chose the kind of life they get to live after they die based on how they live their life.

Also teach me. Do you believe that Jesus Christ was resurrected? That after His resurrection, He now has a body of flesh and bones? That's what I believe.

Thanks for asking me directly. I appreciate that more than just assuming the video accurately represents what I believe.

I would not say that video is a good or fair representation of my faith. It takes a few ideas mixed with doctrine, adds speculation, old statements, exaggerated claims, and mocking language, and then presents it in a way that feels creepy and bizarre. The video is not designed in a way to help someone understand the teachings and beliefs of the church. More so just to mock and misrepresent our religion.

The heart of my faith and the church is Jesus Christ. We believe in God the Eternal Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. We believe that we are all God's children and He loves us. And we believe Jesus Christ is the Savior and Redeemer of the world, that through His Atonement and Resurrection we can repent, be forgiven, be changed, and return to God.

Hi SanctifiedByTruth so glad the Lord led you here, welcome to CC! I had a Mormon friend quite a while back and she asked if I wanted to join their church. When she showed me the separate 'Book of Mormon' I immediately thought of the warning in Rev 22:18-19 about adding or detracting anything from God's written word.
I'm not trying to insult at all but am just giving reasons why I wouldn't follow the LDS such as these statements:
  • Treasure Digging & Seer Stones: Before founding Mormonism, Smith was known in rural New York for treasure hunting. He claimed to use "seer stones" placed in a hat to locate hidden underground wealth. Critics view this as fraudulent hucksterism, while followers frame it as part of his spiritual preparation. [1, 3]
  • Secret Polygamy: Smith married 30 to 40 wives, including teenagers and women who were already married to other men. He kept this practice secret from the general public and his first wife, Emma, publicly denying that he practiced polygamy even after the doctrine was revealed.
