I am 21 years old, but every decision I have made in my life has been without guidance from someone older and more experienced. Looking back now, I feel that many of those decisions were foolish, and they have brought me to a point where I feel hopeless about my future.

Right now, I feel ashamed, guilty, useless, and insecure. I worry that I will never be able to get a decent job and that I will continue to burden my parents again and again. At a time when I should be taking care of them as they enter their sixties, the opposite is happening. I still cannot give them the comfortable and enjoyable life they deserve after all the hardships they have endured throughout their lives.

I feel so guilty that I sometimes think about ending my life. The poor decisions I made regarding my education weigh heavily on me. There are moments when I want everything to end, as if I convince myself that after death my soul would simply disappear and cease to exist.

Yet I am a Christian. Although I am not always faithful or obedient in my faith, I do believe in Christ. That is why I am confused about how I can think about death and imagine my soul disappearing when I also believe in heaven and hell.

Well , I have some good news and some bad news for u .
First , the good news , youth is in your favour , if u want to go back to school / college u can do so . If u know what u want to do and believe u r capable of doing it then do it ! Immediately ! U r just starting out in life but , u r correct , the decisions we make when we r young can affect the rest of our lives , this is why , u have to stop lamenting and start taking control of your future . U can absolutely do this , so , do it ! B decisive , set your eyes on your goal and go and do it ! Now ! I'm just coming up to my sixties and let me tell u I don't expect anyone to look after me ! I ( with God's help ) am quite capable of looking after myself and , if u get a better education now , u will b better placed to help your family by the time they do actually need your help .
Now the bad news , at the age of 21 , u haven't even begun to make mistakes ! 😆 U will never stop making mistakes , we r human and subject to our emotions and our environments , both of which r totally unpredictable . Wait until u r in your late 50's ! By then u will have a mountain of regrets ! Seriously , u r far too young to b hopeless . U have your youth , health , brains and , your God . U can do anything u want to if , u get on the right path . Start to read your Bible every single day , even if it's only one chapter but , read more than that if u can . Say your prayers every day and thank God for all the good things in your life because u only have them because of His lovingkindness towards u . Build a relationship with Him and learn to trust in His guidance and love for u . Talk to Him honestly and openly , He is your Heavenly Father . He knows u better than u know u so don't try to conceal anything from Him because He sees straight through u .
U have a lot going for u , make the most of it ! Now ! May God bless your efforts .

I don't know your parents' situation, but you are 21 and it's time for you to take control of your own problems. Mom and Dad, in their 60s, should be capable of caring for themselves. Stop worrying about them and get a hold of your own life.

If you are living with them, take this time to prepare for your future. Get a part-time job. There are many programs that qualify for grants. Check at your local community college or trade school. There is a real world out there. Get into it.

The first thing that you should know and come to understand is that you are a daughter of God and that His love is infinite. He loves you. He does not want you to feel hopeless. God allows us to feel guilt so that we can get back on the right path. Guilt however can be a tool of the deceiver to distract you from God's love and mercy through His Son Jesus Christ. It sounds like you put a lot of pressure on yourself. This pressure can also cause us to fear in the future. Replace fear with faith. Move forward with faith in Jesus Christ who has paid the price for your sins, short-comings, disappointments, fears, etc. You are never too far from the loving arms of Jesus.

I can't tell you what to do next with your life but if you ask God, He will tell you. Pray to Him to know what you need to do in your life and then have the faith to follow what he inspires you to do.

Well, the good news is that your feelings don't determine reality. The even better news is the Christ does and he's redeemed people who've done far worse than you.

Sounds like one of the best things you could focus on is Jesus words in Matthew 6

"So don't worry about these things, saying, 'What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?' These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. "So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today.

So what can you do today to set things on a different course? What can you do to set yourself up to be ready to move out of your parents' home in a year or two. And stop measuring your life by the shoulds. My brother struggled a lot because his life didn't turn out like he thought it "should", and he took that as evidence that he wasn't good enough and was a failure. As others have said, 21 isn't too late to change or reset the direction of your life. Don't be afraid to try and fail, those who are afraid of that rarely try to make the changes that would be good for them. And remember that part of faith is believing that whatever the mess we have to give over to God, he can take that and use that to make something amazing. Just do your part to do what is right today and let God worry about all the things that could happen and cover for all of the things that you in your limited finite humanness can't provide for those you love.
Your life is not a hopeless catastrophe, but your enemy would sure like you to believe that it is and it can never get any better because then you won't step out in faith and do what God made you to do. Hang in there, God can take care of you and your life.

You have already made a giant leap toward success by realizing you made mistakes. Some people never admit this. Now you can create a better future. Your life has barely begun. Smile. God is love and He loves you very much.

Psalm 51:17

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

Evita, not one of us is perfect! This is one of the reasons Jesus came, to be the ultimate sacrifice for sin. He loves you and will fight for you, as long as you hold onto your faith. Please don’t think about hurting yourself, because you are precious to Him, and you would end up eternally lost.

Ask the Father to help you, to give you guidance, to bless you with wisdom and knowledge of His word (this requires you to start reading the New Testament so that He can help you) and to help you make wise decisions. Pray for all of that through Jesus’ name so the Father will hear your prayer.

Ask Him to help you to find a True church to worship Him. May the Lord help you and be with you. 🩷

There is nothing ( within your physical ability) that you can not do if you want it and you search for a mentor and or teacher. My favorite word is Why. Use this one word for everything! Do not fear-thou shall not fear-fear not.

Can’t never could do anything.

From within yourself, lean on the Name of Jesus Christ. Jod has already understood and forebears your situation, and hH can see from your perspective as if He were you. Just ask Him for instruction and let Him gently guide you.

As a young adult, like you, when it began to be about other people and more than just myself, that's when I really began to look back with regret. Mostly just me wishing that I could have been more kind and less selfish in a lot of different situations growing up. That's part of being an adult, it starts to be about other people too, and not just ourselves. I'm guessing that a lot of people have these kinds of regrets growing into young adults. It's just part of maturing.

Fathers are usually the bread winners, the providers. When they get older and retire, and the checks start to come in the mail, there can be an overwhelming feeling of not being needed anymore. If you ask your father for help, he may wonder 'what you kids are going to do without him when he's gone', but in reality, he needs that as much as you need the help. That's what gives him life, to be able to be that man that's needed, even if it's just for advise. If he complains when you ask for help, that's normal, don't read too much into that.

I had regrets about my mother in the same way, not being able to give her things. I guess that's normal.

I learned years ago, to let go, and let God. And believe me, it works
so long as I actively work at it on a daily basis the best I know how.
The Holy Spirit is active when striving to maintain a God consciousness.
Amen

It's crazy that you're 21 and worried about this.

Different times for sure!

God's blessings Evita, it's beyond sad to see someone so young, beating themselves up so harshly for making mistakes which literally are part of youthful territory.

Think the Lord is probably pleased that you recognise and regret your mistakes, however, seriously think he doesn't feel anywhere near as judgemental and critical of you, as you do yourself. It's good to recognise and repent/change course when it's right to but think you should cut yourself some slack. Everyone makes loads of mistakes in life, fewer learn from them but you definitely do.

Please be nice to yourself too darling, God's blessings and hugs from me 🤗

Focus on God and how much He loves you, then do the next thing that needs to be done. God will guide you and guard you.

Psalm 103

1 Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

I feel so guilty that I sometimes think about ending my life.

We are all born helpless, ignorant, and selfish. If we have good parents, we can greatly improve on this initial condition. However, if we have poor parents or rebel against good ones, we can have a more difficult time. Since we start off so inauspiciously, it should be expected that as we get older we learn more. Part of this learning is to acknowledge that we used to be ignorant.

"I am embarrassed by what I thought five years ago and I hope to be embarrassed five years from now by what I think today." - A person continuing to earn

Shame and guilt are useful to motivate us to make corrections. However, after everything useful has been extracted from them, they are best discarded as holding on to them can poison us. Do not worry about past ignorance. You can use it to embrace humility which is a door through which you can draw closer to God, receive more grace, and request wisdom.

Jas 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Jas 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
