But nowhere was it mandated for the Church age.
The mandates from the law went out along with circumcision.
Yet, many still prefer to have babies circumcised for personal reasons.
Did scripture mention that? About sabbath out?
Circumcision was out, yes, scripture mentioned it.

If Paul was not having a problem with religious Jews wanting to dominate over Gentile converts?
We may have never learned that circumcision in the Law was to be discontinued.
For those who knew what the problem was?
They had no problem to understand we were not mandated to keep a sabbath.
But if you want to keep one? That's up to you.

Besides, they were also not mandated to keep kosher anymore.

It has nothing to do with the church age. The Sabbath was made for man - see Genesis. It is the only Holy day made by God. As I mentioned in the earlier post, it is not one of the sabbaths (small s) but The Sabbath.

No the mystery gentile Bride Church does NOT need to keep the 7th day Sabbath.
Paul was quite clear on this. But why you may ask?

Here is why:

Exo 31:13
“Tell the people of Israel: ‘Be careful to keep my Sabbath day, for the Sabbath is a sign of the covenant between me and you from generation to generation. It is given so you may know that I am the LORD, who makes you holy.

Exo 31:16
The people of Israel must keep the Sabbath day by observing it from generation to generation. This is a covenant obligation for all time.

Eze 20:12
And I gave them my Sabbath days of rest as a sign between ***them*** (The people of Israel) and me. It was to remind them that I am the LORD, who had set them apart to be holy.

Eze 20:20
and keep my Sabbath days holy, for they are a sign to remind ***you*** (The people of Israel) that I am the LORD your God.'

There are also important passages that don't necessarily use the noun “sign” but establish the same Israel-covenant framework:

Exodus 16:23–30 — before Sinai's tablets are given, Israel receives the Sabbath command in connection with the manna. Verse 29 says:

“See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath…”

The audience is Israel.

Deuteronomy 5:12–15 is especially significant. Moses connects Israel's Sabbath observance to Israel's deliverance from Egypt:

“And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence… therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.”

So in Deuteronomy the Sabbath is not merely a creation principle; it has become a national-redemptive memorial for Israel.

Nehemiah 9:13–14 likewise ties it directly to Sinai:

“Thou camest down also upon mount Sinai… And madest known unto them thy holy sabbath…”

Again, Sabbath revelation is situated within God's covenant dealings with Israel.

Isaiah 56:2, 4–7 describes Sabbath keeping as characteristic of those attaching themselves to Yahweh and His covenant, even including foreigners who “join themselves to the LORD.” That actually reinforces the covenantal nature of Sabbath observance rather than making it a generic institution independent of Israel.

Isaiah 58:13–14 calls it:

“the sabbath… my holy day

and associates proper Sabbath observance with covenant faithfulness and enjoyment of “the heritage of Jacob thy father.”

A particularly important summary is therefore:

Exodus 31:13 → Exodus 31:16–17 → Ezekiel 20:12 → Ezekiel 20:20

Together they make essentially the same declaration:

YHWH ↔ Israel
Sabbath ↔ covenant sign
Purpose ↔ identification/sanctification

And Exodus 31:17 removes much ambiguity:

“It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever.”

So biblically, the Sabbath is not merely called a sign in some vague universal sense. It is repeatedly identified as a specific covenant sign between Yahweh and the nation Israel, comparable structurally to circumcision as the sign of the Abrahamic covenant (Gen. 17:11).

It has nothing to do with the church age. The Sabbath was made for man - see Genesis. It is the only Holy day made by God. As I mentioned in the earlier post, it is not one of the sabbaths (small s) but The Sabbath.
Scripture never says that Abraham kept the seventh-day Sabbath.

What it does say is that Abraham obeyed God broadly: Genesis 26:5 says he “obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.” But that verse does not identify Sabbath observance specifically.

The first explicit command for humans to observe the seventh-day Sabbath appears with Israel in Exodus 16, in the manna episode, and then formally in the Mosaic covenant at Sinai in Exodus 20:8–11. Nehemiah 9:13–14 is especially significant because it says God came down at Sinai and “madest known unto them thy holy sabbath.” That wording strongly suggests the Sabbath, as a commanded covenant observance, was being revealed to Israel there.

Genesis 2:2–3 says God rested on and blessed the seventh day after creation, but it contains no command to Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, or Jacob to keep that day as Sabbath. Nor does Genesis record any patriarch observing a weekly Sabbath.

So the safest biblical conclusion is:

God established and sanctified the seventh day at creation, but Scripture does not show Abraham keeping a commanded seventh-day Sabbath. The Sabbath as an obligatory covenant sign is explicitly given to Israel under Moses.

That fits Exodus 31:16–17 particularly well: “the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath … it is a sign between me and the children of Israel.”

There is a passage in Psalm 95 that says if we do not know God’s ways, we will not enter His rest. I have been studying the sabbath and trying to understand what God really says. For your amusement and consideration, I submit the following thoughts.

Genesis 2:3
God then blessed the seventh day and set it apart because he had finished creation

The first thing God did on the seventh day, after creation was completed, was to make the day “Holy.” The entire day, not just part. He set one full day aside from all others for His use and pleasure. That use and pleasure was for our benefit; an opportunity to refresh.

Exodus 20:8-11
The first commandment concerning the Sabbath is to remember it forever…

Next God commanded His people to remember His special set-apart day forever. (Not sure we have done so well with that.) The sabbath is a reminder of His everlasting covenant. An acknowledgement that following a short period of struggles and difficulties, He will bring us all into an everlasting sabbath with Him.

Exodus 20:10
…but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work,

He then commanded His people to do no work. This has been abused and miss-understood for centuries, but His intent is clear. We are to rely on Him. (Picking up sticks does not necessarily violate the sabbath, but More on this later) We can trust God for our provision or we can rely on our own effort, but we cannot do both. For one full day out of seven, God asks our reliance be totally on Him, not on ourselves. The Bible says God will provide for the sabbath, all we need do is make the preparations.

So, what do we do? Yeshua showed us! Prayer, doing good works, reading scripture, hearing, and preaching the word, singing, fasting, healing, making oaths and vows to God, offering thanksgivings, yet always glorifying His Holy Name. There is tremendous power in the sabbath.

One problem I did encounter in my study; the stony execution of a man for collecting sticks on the sabbath. (Numbers 15:32-36) This appeared cruel and set me back.

After a little more study the context then became clear, the execution had absolutely nothing to do with breaking sabbath rules. The context is a discussion of unintentional and intentional sin. The issue is blasphemy; the deliberate, insulting, contemptuous and willful lack of reverence for God. This man stood at the foot of the mountain and heard God’s own voice proclaiming his commandments. In his arrogance he then proceeded to publicly challenged God. Not a good idea.

There is no judgement here on how or when anyone chooses to keep sabbath, only the encouragement for thoughts and prayers on the subject.
[Exo 16:22-30 KJV]
22 And it came to pass, [that] on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one [man]: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.

23 And he said unto them, This [is that] which the LORD hath said, To morrow [is] the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake [that] which ye will bake [to day], and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

24 And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein.

25 And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day [is] a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field. 26 Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, [which is] the sabbath, in it there shall be none.

27 And it came to pass, [that] there went out [some] of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none.

28 And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?

29 See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.

30 So the people rested on the seventh day.

The New Testament never gives one external observance the exact title “the sign of the New Covenant” in the same formula used for circumcision or the Sabbath. But the closest thing to the New Covenant's identifying seal/sign is the indwelling Holy Spirit.

Paul says believers are:

  • “sealed with that holy Spirit of promise” — Ephesians 1:13
  • given the Spirit as “the earnest of our inheritance” — Ephesians 1:14
  • “sealed unto the day of redemption” — Ephesians 4:30
  • God “hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts” — 2 Corinthians 1:22
  • God has given us “the earnest of the Spirit” — 2 Corinthians 5:5

That language is remarkably close to covenant-identification language. The Spirit marks out the people who belong to Christ and guarantees the future completion of redemption.

There is also an important connection with the actual New Covenant prophecy. Jeremiah 31:31–34 says God will put His law “in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts.” Ezekiel develops this further:

“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you…”

and:

“I will put my spirit within you…”

— Ezekiel 36:26–27.

So the New Covenant moves dramatically from an external identifying sign toward an internal divine work.

That gives a striking progression:

Abrahamic Covenant: circumcision — Genesis 17:11
Mosaic Covenant: Sabbath — Exodus 31:13, 17
New Covenant: the Holy Spirit dwelling within and sealing God's people — Eph. 1:13–14; 2 Cor. 1:22.

There are two other New Covenant ordinances that should be distinguished from this.

The Lord's Supper explicitly commemorates the New Covenant:

“This cup is the new testament [covenant] in my blood…”

— Luke 22:20; 1 Corinthians 11:25.

So the bread and cup are certainly visible covenant memorials, especially the cup representing Christ's covenant blood. But Scripture calls the Supper a remembrance/proclamation, not specifically God's “sign between me and you” in the Exodus sense.

Likewise, water baptism visibly identifies a believer with Christ's death, burial, and resurrection (Romans 6:3–4; Colossians 2:12), but the NT never explicitly calls baptism the sign of the New Covenant.

And there is an even deeper identifying mark:

“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”

— John 13:35.

But that is an evidential mark of discipleship rather than a formal covenant sign.

So I would formulate it this way:

The New Covenant has no mandated weekly-day “sign” comparable to Israel's Sabbath. Its fundamental divine seal is the indwelling Holy Spirit; its visible covenant memorial is the Lord's Supper.

That distinction is actually quite powerful against the argument that Christians must retain the Sabbath because “every covenant requires the same kind of external sign.” The NT replaces the Mosaic covenant's external national marker with something far greater: God Himself dwelling in His people and sealing them unto redemption.

Circumcision was never "out". It was not prohibited or even discouraged. Messianic Jews continued the practice or did not as they saw appropriate. It was eliminated as a requirement for gentiles participating in the Synagogue. Conflating circumcision with God's law is error.

And please, please define what you mean by 'law". There is God's direct Law; His Commandments. There is His indirect Law, often called the Mosaic law. And there is church "Law" called Halakah for Hebrews, and church doctrine for Christians. Without these definitions discussions become nonsensical.

In the current discussion it would be correct to say the circumcision requirements for gentiles was removed. but only from the laws of Halakah.

Circumcision is the SIGN OF THE COVENANT given to Abraham.

Gen 17:10
This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.

Gen 17:13
He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

[Gen 17:7-9 KJV]
7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.

8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

9 And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations.

Medical evidence shows that circumcision can be healthier than uncircumcised.
Medical evidence indicates that circumcision can lower the risks of urinary tract infections,
sexually transmitted infections, and penile cancer compared to being uncircumcised.
However, the American Academy of Pediatrics states that the benefits are not strong enough
to recommend routine circumcision for all male newborns, leaving the decision to parents.

Gen 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

The 7th day the sabbath day applies to the creation of this earth.

It is a physical sabbath.

Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exo 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Exo 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates.

Mat 12:1 At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.
Mat 12:2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.
Mat 12:3 But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;
Mat 12:4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?

Mat 12:7 But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.
Mat 12:8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

Mat 12:10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.
Mat 12:11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
Mat 12:12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

The Jews had to obey the sabbath day to do no work on that day.

But the work they could not do was if it was work that had to do with physical prosperity not being a necessity.

The disciples ate of the corn when they went through the field.

And Jesus healed on the sabbath day.

Because love and helping with needs which is love never takes a day off.

They could work on the sabbath if it had to do with helping people with their needs or their own needs.

But they could not work if it had to do with personal prosperity that was not a necessity.

The man picking up sticks was laboring for something that was personal prosperity that did not support the needs of people.

And not an urgency that he had to do it on the sabbath day that was essential.

Obviously those sticks was not a necessity.

Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Col 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Joh 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Joh 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Isa 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

Luk 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
Luk 17:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

Heb 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
Heb 11:14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.
Heb 11:16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

Jesus took the physical ordinances of Israel out of the way nailing them to His cross for they were contrary to us for they had no bearing on spiritual salvation.

Which includes the physical sabbath day being taken out of the way.

The physical sabbath is taken out of the way applies to this earth.

Jesus went away to prepare a place for the saints the new earth and heaven.

Which the kingdom of God is within the saints.

And they are strangers and pilgrims on earth.

So they belong to that new earth so they go by a spiritual sabbath and not the physical sabbath that applies to this earth.

Isa 28:10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
Isa 28:11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.
Isa 28:12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

When a person receives the Holy Spirit that is their rest and the refreshing.

The Old Testament a physical covenant this earth.

The New Testament a spiritual covenant the new earth.
Can you show me a verse in the Bible that specifically says that the Sabbath day has been replaced by Sunday?

Can you show me a verse in the Bible that specifically says that the Sabbath day has been replaced by Sunday?

G4 V6 G4 F13DI have never found any verse that made the first day of a week Holy nor a verse removing the 7th from Holy time.
or a even one verse stating sunday is the christian day for worship.

Christ said He is the Master of the 7th Day --- never ever mentioned the first day as special.
I will keep the day Christ is Lord and Master of.
True, there is not a single verse explicitly commanding the Christian church to switch its weekly day of worship from Saturday to Sunday. Nevertheless, it is a known historical fact that the Church introduced that change at a very early date, and there are a few verses here and there that show signs of it.

One example is Acts 20:7. The expression "breaking bread" usually refers to Holy Communion (the Eucharist, the Lord's Supper) and at this early date Paul was evidently celebrating that sacrament on the first day of the week, in this case for the church in Troas.

Do we understand the Sabbath was given by YHWH centuries before there was a tabernacle, a temple, a synagogue or a church. Corporate worship was in the home! That is where it still belongs.
