Hi, my name's Elise, I'm 20 and is overwhelmed at the moment with life.

For context; I've accepted Jesus as my Lord and saviour at 16 because I was going through a tough time. At 18 I had huge fight with my mum and I was crying out to God and he told me to call my Nan who I haven't seen in years and leave, which I did. And found a job then left for another Job that I'm currently at and is also studying.

Anyway, what i wanted to ask is... How do you balance work, study, chores, health and God?

I've feel like I'm disrespecting God by focusing on these other things and that I'm failing him somehow, that I'm not doing enough, it's exhausting but I can't give up because God is all I ever had.

Honestly I don't know where to start, I've been obsessed with self-help, routine, schedules but I know i should be relying on God so I've got rid of all my self-help books and now I feel lost, I don't know what to do with my life, in the sense that I don't know how to manage my time and steward it.

At this point I am burnt out. If you guys have any verses and explanation on balancing all this, do let me know 🙌

My advice as an older person is to keep it simple. Your number one priority is your Christian walk. The next, is your health. Make sure you have a day off at least once a week. It does not matter which day.

"It is vain for you to rise early, To retire late, to eat the bread of anxious labours— For He gives [blessings] to His beloved even in his sleep." Psalm 127:2 (Amplified)

Good on you for ditching self help books. "My help comes from the Lord!" It is important to work, but again not to the detriment of your walk with Christ or your health. My advice is to cast all your care on the Lord. Start each day by confessing that you can't cope and ask Jesus to be your wisdom and strength. Nothing is impossible for Him.

Be thankful for everything that you are going through, good or not so good. Find time to exercise. Go for a walk and pray along the way. Your body will thank you.

Something that few Christians seem to understand is that Jesus is your Life now. He lives in you to be everything that you know you should be but cannot be. More important, Lord Jesus is everything in you that God requires of you. Pray something like this every day: "Lord Jesus, please live out your life, in me, through me and in place of the old me."

It works. I've prayed this for some years. A few years ago, I was in hospital with a potentially fatal and extremely painful illness. Lord Jesus brought me through. I was at peace, even in the illness. I had the peace of God that passes understanding. And the glory is to Lord Jesus, not me. We can have peace even when everything seems against us. Lord Jesus is the Prince of peace.

I used to be into self-help big time. You might try to substitute the time you spent on self-help with reading God's word. Pay attention to what He communicates to you through His word. His teaching and instruction is far more valuable than any self-help.

The advice that has been shared with you is very good. It might also help if you don't see life as so compartmentalized. Instead of dividing your time between work and school and chores and God, do all things unto the Lord. Make work an act of worship and communion with God. Work your hardest for the Lord. Understand that work is a blessing of the Lord, be thankful, and perform your duties as if you were performing them for Jesus Himself. And as you progress through your day, maintain this attitude throughout regardless of what it is you are doing.

Blessings. Praying for you.
